i don't what so ever get this laptop. they give you a 512 mb ram and pre-load windows vista on there, it is recommend that you have at least 4 gb of ram??? like wtf

i have this laptop and i installed ubuntu 9.10 and it makes everything a lot easier. It is so much faster

i have the same laptop for 2 years had a cooling problem for 1 year took me that long to realise the fan didnt work its fixed now with a fan controlling program

Just Update your bios i did that and i had the same problem why i did try to install macosx and it overheated over 100 degrees

i have had my acer aspire 5315 for 3 years and i had it switch over to windows xp and the laptop is still running great.

I did a bios update from v1,29 to v1,45 because it has a Cooling problem that it solved now

It's not the best laptop but for the price can you hardly expect much? I have one that's a 1.86GHz and has 500Mb of RAM and came with Vista... Now I'd suggest not running vista on this laptop! Why they did this is beyond me... XP is a better option there is drivers on the Acer site so you can download them! Also you can expand the RAM out too 2Gb (DDR2) and can upgrade to 120Gb HDD! And it will work I guess at it's best capability!

My 5315 can just play 720p with lag. So I'm doughtful it will be able to without upgrading the processor, etc.

If you can upgrade the processor I'd like to know! But I was under the assumption that the processor in solder on to the board!! Although I haven't actually opened to see if it is!

It is possible. The Processor is only hidden underneath a bunch of clips and screws under the heat sink. I've never actually upgraded the Processor, due to the fact that I don't have the money to currently. Check out the Notebookreview Forum. Have fun upgrading. I'm probably going to upgrade after I buy an Acer Timeline, or maybe that HP computer that keeps staring at me in the shops.

This is the worst laptop i've ever had. The laptop just gets too hot to hold on your lap (not exactly what you would expect from a LAPtop). And to make things worse: the battery isn't even working anymore because of the heat. Another thing to know about this laptop is that it's very heavy and not exactly made out of strong materials (cheap plastics). Good luck with it if you already have one!

i am a PC technician for 15 years, this is my first notebook, is a very good notebook, i use 24 hs each day, i use for very hard work, no problems , maybe your notebook is damaged or something like that, for the price and useful is the best, i sold a lot of HP notebooks with same hardware , not motherboard but others yes.

umm that's debatable. Sure the 5315 is crap compared to some, but it's not a laptop. It's a notebook. (Difference: One burns ur special parts and one doesn't)

get a ram ddr2 chip, open up the big panel of it and on the top left there should be a slot to put it in, watch a youtube tutorial on how to change ram, then you'll know =]
