I do believe it is perfect for parents to read to themselves and hopefully reduce the frustration that their child won't sleep. It is difficult when you have a child that won't go to sleep, and to place some kind of humour toward it. Oh some of us on here may proclaim to be the perfect parent, and would never say it. Well guess what! thinking it, is just as bad. Lighten up for heaven sake and look at the humour in it, and for those who believe you shouldn't read it to your children, OBVIOUSLY.
Also, of course you wouldn't find it in the kids section. I work at a bookstore and I think you'll find that it's in the HUMOUR section on the highest shelf. So grow up, have a laugh and chill.

Noni Hazlehurst's way with a story raised the bar with my own kids to such an extent that I had to read Raymond Briggs' 'The Elephant and the Bad Baby' in EXACTLY the same manner, with ALL the funny voices she did on 'Play School'.
I am glad to say that I had the opportunity to thank her personally for her reading of that story when I met her some years later!

If the parents are careful (e.g. not drunk) and aware of potential risks, I guess it shouldn't be a problem. I think a baby is more safe and more happy if the parents are close. I gave my friend a copy of this after she had her first child . I know exactly what it is like to try and get kids asleep, you wouldn't actually read this to them but still it makes me lol . It isn't like other books and movie don't have adult references

So many comments missing the point - this is NOT A KIDS BOOK! It's a book for al the parents out there who've had sleepless night after sleepless night trying to get young kids to sleep, to show them THEY ARE NOT FUCKING ALONE IN GETTING FRUSTRATED!
