  • I wanted to add a note for the 1999 Vulcan 1500A Classic. You will need a 2" bimetal holesaw along with the dowel for centering. I had to got to Lowes three times to get it all right. The baffles are a b$&@! to get out. I used a steel rod to wiggle them loose then pulled them out fairly easy. Bike sounds AWESOME now!

  • So, it's been a couple of years since you posted this. How about an update? Did you leave them as is or upgrade to some after market pipes? Any performance change? I have an 04 and plan to do this next weekend as I'd like to avoid paying ~500 for a set of Cobra pipes. Thanks for the video btw!

  • I have a 91 Vulcan 1500. Will the same method have the same results, meaning the baffles just pull out as easy as yours did??

  • do all exhausts have their baffles welded?

    I asked a mechanic in Suzuki about a bike with a good sound if its baffles were removed and he was hand-checking the body of the exhasut. strange right?

  • Did you have to re-jet? Didn't hear you mention anything about it, was wondering if it effected performance without rejetting. I have a 06 v-star 650 classic that I'm thinking about gutting.

  • thanks to all of you I got a 2005 nomad and drilled 4 holes in each pipe. its got a pft pft sound now I cant stand. I will get those baffles out. thanks again and good video

  • Thanks, the Nomad is a 2008 I just purchased this summer. I guess I should wait until the warranty is up before doing the debaffle job. I was considering a set of Vance and Hines but when I heard your bike and another, I thought they sounded pretty good. Thanks again for yout time.

  • So, is it safe to debaffle my 1600 Nomad? How will debaffling the bike affect performance. Is there any danger of engine damage? Thanks fo your help.

  • I didn't find any difference in the performance, if anything it improved ever so slightly.

  • Well actually murph3133 I now have a set of Jardine rumblers installed that I put on back in November just before putting the bike away...they sound amazing!

    I hope to post a video of them this spring, but right now I'm buried in snow!

    OK, took your advise and video clip and went to work on my 2005 Nomad 1600. Including set up time to on the road testing them was 30 minutes. I can live with this sound until I get the bucks for a set of pipes. I can now hear my bike in a pack of road kings. Thanks again for you info.

  • They also recommend a high flow air filter if changing the exhaust to the V&H or Jardines as well.

  • My understanding after asking around a "lot" about this subject is that you mainly only have to add the Power Commander if you change things on the intake. However, the backfire can be come more pronounced after switching to the Jardines or V&H Baggers, etc. Most people recommend the Dynajet Power Commander, but I spoke with another chap online that used the Cobra FI2000 on his Nomad and said it worked great. I believe you will find the FI2000 might be a bit better on the wallet too.

  • No, you shouldn't have to make any adjustments. You may notice when you are gearing down you can hear a slight backfire, but I mean slight! The biggest difference I found was the sound becomes deeper no necessarily louder.

    I am planning on installing a set of Jardine Rumblers soon, I guess I would like a bit more noise...LOL!

  • I just did that with my '99 Nomad, and there is a definite sound difference, but I was wondering if I would need to make any carb adjustments afterwords.

  • I love using a pair of channel lock pliers as a hammer! LOL

    Did the same with my 1600 - sounds 100% better for sure. I can actually hear it while driving down the interstate now.

  • Read your comment and thinking about doing this to my 1600 nomad. Did you add power command and if not any back firing? I have a 2005 1600 still have a 2 year extended waranty and wondering if this will void the warranty.

  • No. Same as without baffles; just can hear it a little more. Only as much as adding aftermarket pipes I'd imagine. I guarantee it will void warranty on exhaust system problems for sure :) . Then again, most dealers might not even notice if you do it right.
