  • i know how to do this hahaha

  • YO ESTOY EMPEZANDO Y ME PARECE BUENISSIMO MUY RELAJANTE

  • this is origina heian shodan

  • OSS!!! Beatfull Kata!!! Cogratulatinos!!!

  • yo soy cinturoon blanco

  • So is this the "first" kata we need to learn? I just got my black belt (first Dan) in tae kwon do, im looking for a bit of a change. Im thinking if joining my local karate dojo now. I'm used to learning patterns and stuff I just thought I would get a head start by the time I start after the holidays...

  • He is so powerful !! I like it, I'm studying Heian Shodan. Great !

  • wicked power.

  • somee S:

  • i know that kata like the shodan heian...

  • 42 seconds...speedy gonzales , relax :)

  • ossu! does he have other vids doing other katas from heian nidan to sandan, yondan and higher?

  • Muito boom (Y)

  • there are three catching upper blocks?

  • Badass Heian

  • muuuito bom !

  • Damn! What speed! But aren't the feet supposed to point at the same direction?

  • this is certainly a skilled heian shodan i've found so far in many aspects. very good at generating power, timing kiai with strikes, balancing himself in the kokutsu-dachi. i haven't seen any of the other videos drop low with a 7 to 3 weight distribution like that. i'm having trouble telling something because of the speed though if anyone can help me out. Is he twisting his hips before his leading heal hits the ground? it's close but i think he may not be.

  • @Jaetei No, he twists'em as soon as he touches the ground with the front foot. If he twists his hips before that, his front leg will follow the movement and move the base as well. The hips twist after the base is stablished.

  • hhhhhhhhhhhjj

  • Bom !! Esse atleta é bom no kata !!

  • Me gustaa..! viendo esto puedo hacerlo mejor, porque aprendo ..hey lo hisiste muy bien quisiera hacerlo asi. Andreina ;)

  • yo AWSOME :D OSS

  • @SimonQa1 What branch of Shotokan Karate do you practice, are you apart of the JKA, or SKA? That makes a big difference in your training. If you been in it for about 6 months now you should have already learned most of the five Heian Kata by now, Shodan being among the first and hardest. If your testing for your white belt then you need to leave that organization and join the SKA (My own opinion), you should be a white belt as of now and testing for your next rank.

  • @fartface0469 - lol funny to see your dumbass on yet another video pretending to know anything about karate. For everyone else, this guy is a troll and keyboard warrior. Don't take his comments too serious.

  • @spamllpitdept So what are you the internet's knight in shinning armor?lol. Lets see post something else other than vigilante "Internet Justice" you tool, lol. Well obviously your someone or would like to think so, who knows a thing or two. Why not post something more productive, maybe lay down your infinite knowledge of what you believe to be Karate interpretations. I leave posts for someone to read and scratch their heads over. Why don't you go suck Antonio's "World Champion" Cock.lol.

  • @fartface0469 - Oh my ... fartface seems angry again, hahahaha. wow, according to my inbox, you made 3 posts and left me a profile msg on 10pm Christmas Eve your time ... wow, such a sad lonely pathetic troll. Now I see why you need to go online and pretend to know Karate. It probably give you some well-needed attention. aaawhahahahah

  • @spamllpitdept Hahahaha, yeah I was pretty drunk that night hanging out at home. If I remember correctly I wished you a Merry Christmas. Now I shall wish you a Happy New Year. If anything your as bad as I am, you've replied to pretty much everything I've posted, found me on another video, posted a message then, then you've counted the amount of times I posted something. Looks like someone is as lonely as me lol. I'm just bored and unemployed at the moment. Rock on buddy lol.

  • @SimonQa1 If your having to test into a white belt then your part of a money making organization and not an actual Karate focused school. I pay thirty dollars a month for training with some of the best teaching today, one of which is Bruce Kanegai whom of which is a Godan in SKA. If there's more then three colors of belts then your just paying for a different color belt everytime you test, most of the time you don't get proper instruction and lose out on some crucial fundamentals to basics.

  • @fartface0469 What both of you need to do is get away from this nonsense. Facts for you: Meiji outlawed all martial arts. WWII surrender banned martial arts. Nakayama had to get permission for the JKA to exist, terms were: Not a martial art, no true martial techniques, no weapons. The JKA does not practice karate, they practice a karate like sport. The biggest reason: they practice something karate is not. they aren't even close to real karate. I am a JKA life member trained in Japan. See 2

  • @fartface0469 #2 The term Budo is a ruse and excusable in the Japanese society as tatemae. Budo is said to mean martial art, it does not. It means path such as the path in karate-do. The term for karate as a martial art is karate jutsu. If you really want to learn of karate, true karate the way it was developed in Okinawa, you will need to find a traditional Okinawan karate teacher. You will never learn karate with the JKA or the JKS. Shocked? Disbelief? Do the homework and learn as I did.

  • @IEKUKATAKA I appreciate the knowledge there good sir, I don't hold it in disbelief nor am I shocked. I practice in the SKA not JKA I would love to go to Japan and study there trust me but I have to make do with the next best thing thats a mere couple hours away with Oshima. Oshima instructs the same Karate as it was first taught to him by Gichin Funakoshi. I'm not saying its the best on the planet but its the best definitely better then your everyday average Joe's Dojo.

  • @fartface0469 I would say you are in a good spot. I have seen Oshima on YouTube and I know of his history. He did not follow the path of Yoshitaka, the son of Funakoshi who is the real inspiration of the JKA. I believe he is closest to the teachings of the elder Funakoshi and may be dead center. That being the case, he is apparently of close Okinawan lineage. If you will, please tell Oshima that a student of Akiyama Hitoshi gives his regards. Continue training, you will never regret it.

  • @IEKUKATAKA I have special training coming up here soon so I'll be at his the Oshima Dojo in Santa Barbara for a good 4 day kill ya session of basics, kata, kumite, and let us not forget the dreaded 1.5hr. Kiba Dachi. So I will give him your regards, he's really good about remembering everyone he's ever met, just like Bruce Kanegai. I am extremely honored to be learning from such great instructors, you should come down one of these days we welcome guests all the time, Oshima loves company.

  • @fartface0469 California is a little too far from South Carolina, but, I would love to meet Oshima, I bet he has some real stories. Please do give him my regards and please mention Akiyama sensei, I am sure it will stimulate memories for him. Happy new year!

  • @SimonQa1 Only way is to keep practicing it, n have somebody evaluate your errors until u get it right. videos n books are not very helpful in my opinion. I took 6 months of it too n passed it. It's all about Practice.

  • @SimonQa1 Find a traditional Okinawan karate dojo and get away from Shotokan. See my posts below, see my channel comments.

  • awesome..:!

  • hmmmm that is pinan nidan -......- no ????

  • @AXOL58 no this is heian shodan

  • Nice ..

  • Nice

  • thanks i am leack kata heian shodan -_-

  • i'm a black belt :D i remember learning these katas ages ago and thinking WTF :L

    i'm 15 btw :)

  • WOW MAN FREAKING AMASING i've seen 10 videos of this kata and i never saw noone doing it wit5h such strong, precision and speed like you!

    Witch dan are you? 8th?

  • yuni no kata O.O??

  • the first kata hahahahahha XDDDD

  • I just learned this Kata last week. It's really confusing at first but later it gets easy. So what's the next one?

  • i just made this stage tonight is there any info to help me thanks

  • I liked this. I would have wanted to see a bit more attention to tempo but this may only be for demonstration purposes.

  • Precisa melhorar o kata...Está muito preciso os movimentos mas ainda não há sincronismo, não põe realidade no acontecimento...e o kata é uma simulação.

Need to practice...You have a lot of precision, but you dont have sync. with them, you dont put reality in your kata and kata is a simulation of reality combat.

  • im a white belt having a quiz to become yellow can anybody give me tips

  • @JackReaper27 they award belts through quizes now?

  • @DonalPhelan well here they do

  • @JackReaper27 ...but surely there is some sort of physical test also?

  • @DonalPhelan not a written exam

  • @JackReaper27 What kind of crackpot sensei do you have?!

  • @aymanhaq dude its not a written exam its physical exam

  • I just learning this too. I keep forgetting the sequence, but I'm so grateful for this video! I've even put on my phone so I can remember the steps even when I'm not doing the actual actions.

  • djkalja you exercise kiokushin karate this is shotokan style .

  • wtf in my karate club that is called "Pinanidan"

  • @djkalja u study okaniwan karate?

  • @prenticejoel umm dunno the style is called "motobuha-shitoryu"

  • @djkalja This kata was originally created as Pinan Nidan by the Okinowan Sensei Yasutsune Itosu. Later Sensei Gichin Funakoshi renamed the katas as "Heian" when he brought the art to Japan, as it was a more Japanese name. He changed the order the katas were taught so that this became "Heian Shodan" (first Heian kata) because it was easier to teach than the original Pinan Shodan. As a result, Pinan Shodan became Heian Nidan. In styles such as Wado-Ryu the original Pinan katas are still taught.

  • @DonalPhelan aah thats good to know now i understand more :)

  • i have a question i thought with the rising blocks i thought that i was only one open hand and 3 closed hands but thats all i have nd u did a great job

  • I ♥ Karate

  • Excellent!!!

  • Thanks! It is very useful to learn this kata!

  • yoseikan is better

  • Really nice ! I wanted to remember this kata and you helped me a lot ! (sorry I'm french I don't speak english very well...)

  • Nice. I saw another video version, trying to refresh my memory of this kata. It was depressing to watch, it was a blackbelt, and his head was bobbing up and down with each step. But this guy's clean, smooth, and crisp.

  • Good! ごくろさまでした!

  • buena

  • You really want to use a kata at a tournament? Use Kata Basadei or Kata Heian Nidan. Basadei is really showy, but nidan is more grounded, if you know what i mean.

  • I'm just training it, and I'm almost know how to do it! ... I'm nearly of yellow belt but... here's my first chance to be a good karate guy

  • excellent

  • this is the only kata i know and im tryingto get my orange belt thanks!!!

  • faster tha I have ever seen, impressive.

  • Im getting my yellow belt because of this video, thanks VERY MUCH!, OSS!!!

  • absolute best shodan ive seen so far

  • grz per il video

  • Yes it's awesome!! I am learning this kata. I totally want to perform this in a tournament now. I am really inspired by this.

  • wow :O

really best heian shodan i have ever seen

  • wow that was great. i never have that much precision and force when i do that kata.

  • Very nice. Love the speed and sharpness.

  • Thanks i got my yellow belt and im working on heian nidan its pretty easy

  • I have a belt test this Sunday and i have to know this one, but i keep looking at the ground not my target, and the shudo blocks always get me at the end.(By the way good job)!!

  • How'd the testing go? Hope it went well! And it gets easier if you remember your opponents are supposed to be in front of you, not on the ground. Remember Miyagi in Karate Kid--"always look eye". Also, you will eventually do it so much so you're not looking at your foot placement, which it sounds like your'e focusing on. You don't think about walking anymore you just walk. Kata will become the same way.

  • I have the same problem with the knife hand blocks at the end, it's the back stance that throws me every time, I know all of Nidan too, and I think it is easier to do that Shodan, well done on passing your grading.

  • A apresentação deste kata é muito boa, excelente..........Lyon......Françã......

  • I'm from tijutsu discipline, been doing it 6 years. Although tijutsu has its own katas, we incorporate Heian Shodan into the 2nd Dan assessment. I'm not sure whether it is a corruption or loss of detail, maybe from being passed between Senseis, the way I was taught Shodan differed from this one. After every downward block we raise our arm, pointing straight forward or slightly up. Recently, a new Sensei at my club has been putting us to rights, I am assuming this video is correct. Thanks.

  • wow... i did like 3 years ago...

i forgot how to do it!!!!

    i feel like learning again....

  • any 1 here do seido juku

  • No there is no orange in my style.

  • We call this one pinan nidan in my school!

  • that's shitoryu

  • Wow. Excellent kata. Very sharp, good cadence.

  • Incrivel!!Vai ajudar pra caramba na minha pratica, já que eu sou faixa branca...õ_õ

    XD

Parabéns pro cara aí! Mto bão!

  • I'm a freaking newbie with 4 hours karate only - but this is going to help me, I mess up after the second kiai.

    Thanks to the maker!

  • yes!!! this is a very high form of the kata!!! full power, spirit and perfect position.

  • Wow. Now that's how to perform this kata. On the fact thatnobody can do the perfect kata, EVER, so let me throw something out there. On his turn, into the third shuto uke, his back heel lifts up. He does it nowhere else in the kata, it's just a tiny, tiny point. I only notice it because Hirayama-sensei (JKA) had a go at me about my heels yesterday on a course. As a result, at training today, I was pretty paranoid and messed up Heian Shodan something awful, though I've been doing it for 10 years!

  • @Caeternum

Tell Hirayama Sensei he's a heel.

  • AAH im going to perfome for my yellow belt soon, im so afraid im gonna fail :O

  • me to

  • me to i am doing taikyoku shodan

  • Me too =|

  • This will be on my Blue Belt test I am pursuing as of right now, it's all about technique, nice job!

  • is that after purple? cus im either going for blue or green

  • Are you taking Shotokan Karate? Because that's my style. It goes:

    White

    yellow

    Blue

    Purple

    Brown

    Black.

  • yes i am but i have had white-yellow-orange-purple 3 degrees for each so 3 tests or 2 tests for a whole color i dont know the rest its just what i have got

  • you forgot orange

  • it's been 3 months since i've started my Karate..this week i'm perfomming for my yellow belt..it's cool but i gotta work on that heian shodan kata. i'm very slow and i forget steps 2. help me God !

  • I've been doing Shotokan for 3 years now and without fail, every instructor says that Heian hodan is one of the hardest to do correctly. After 3 months, I wouldn't worry if I were you. Good luck and keep training!

  • wow, really good...

    Obrigada*

  • Hi there, i've recently joined a karate class so i'm learning my first kata and i'm trying to find something useful for my study. I'm somehow disapointed to read such contrary opinions because i would really like to do a good performance of heian shodan but it seems

there is no good reference for this...

Why does this happen? such different opinions? And what do you older karetecas recomend us new guys?

    Thanks *

  • That was awesome but, din't he go too fast? I thought that this kata must be done in 45 seconds. Please answer because I don't know...

  • Amazing how the most basic of kata can be so good when performed well.

  • probably the most perfect heian shodan that i ever seen

    congratulations man

  • this is how to perform heian shodan correct

  • thanks

  • thank god! there is so much crap on here. the real thing!!!!

  • thanks man i am learing this kata now

  • @anan07 =D easy Kata it was the first one i learned i got yellow belt for it.

I am way passed that now..

  • Good.

But why zen kutsu dachi during the tate tetsui ? It should be teiji dachi (00:17)

  • nice.

  • He is very clean and the length of his stances never changes however his stances are not deep enough and he lifts his feet.

  • good!!

  • I saw hanmi on every gedan block, what did you not see?

  • Yeah, maybe not a full hanmi

  • @kwfkarateka ....? Awful? He actually made this boring kata look interesting, how is it awful? From where I'm watching, his stance work is impeccable, and his techniques are powerful. What part of it specifically did you not like?

  • muy bueno excelente

  • Awesome! just as my teacher taught me :)

  • Great stuff.

  • I've only started shotokan Karate in the last few weeks - this is excellent stuff...

Also a good reminder (as he's a student and all) that every expert starts as a novice...

His technique is extraordinarily clean - the camera angle is also very good, as you see leg movements and feet positions clearly.

    Very good all round.

  • You are right, the footwork is exceptional as shown by the clever camera angle.

  • nice !!!

  • very good...

  • I have this DVD... One of the guys from my club got to travel to Japan to train and brought it back... There is one clip of 3 karateka doing unsu together... It is awe inspiring to watch...

  • perfect

  • I believe only Japan - I got it via ebay,

  • Not really. You can buy it from my Sensei as well as the other ones. Let me know if you need any help on this. I have got this DVD and another one of Kagawa Sensei... Seriously, such things are worth watching. Karate Bible.

  • Really? a student of Kagawa Sensei? He seems to be on the Japan National Team. No focus, hips not used, timing not correct. I know Kagawa Sensei. Being 1st runner up in the male individual kata of the 1st JKA shotocup, I don't think he would be satisfied if any of his black belt students would perform heian shodan like this...

  • Kagawa sensei selected this student to appear on his latest instructional DVD, so yeh, he is a student.

  • Crisp, measured and correct. A joy to watch.

  • Good heian shodan

  • Very crisp. Nice stances.

  • nice technique ^^
