This was originally a song about a sheep farmer who was castrated for having carnal knowledge of the livestock in his charge. "There will never be another ewe" Then there's the Nazi vewrsion. "There will never be another Jew". The bastards should live so long....
@doglufer; ya had to be there. @ grootveld (hollander, Ja?) look for the all the shit Capitol records. Billeie or Frank or "Someone", cause that's the anonomus american tradition. Sings Rodgers and Hart; or Gerwshin; or Cole Porter; or Irving Berlin . . . .or the thouands that wanted to be like that. It's American music. Those of us in the South, like to think it's a carreer. For Yankees, it's just a hobby. But, damn me if they aren't good.

@dogluver417 I think it was probably closer to him coming back to where he was staying late at night, inebriated, and the door had been locked, so he climbed up the lattice/ivy on the side of the house to climb through the window, but fell trying... that's what I think........ still sad.
Could anyone say the names of some other good jazz standard/songs. I've already downloaded everything of Coltrane, so there is no point in call those:)
@Spiricort Jobim has a lot of wonderful songs. How Insensitive (Insensatez), One Note Samba, Girl from Ipanema, and many others. Also, Joe Henderson and Dexter Gordon.
@GrootveldMusic charlie parker (my little suede shoes is great!), wynton kelly, oscar peterson, sonny rollins, bud powell, gill evans for some great big bands, nat king cole etc. etc. etc.
@GrootveldMusic Stella By Starlight, Laura, Take 5, Lady Bird, Tenderly, Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Thelonius Monk, Johnny Hartman, Bobby Timmons, Art Tatum
@GrootveldMusic buy a realbook. then you got them. songs, written by jazz legends are so called jazz classics. standarts usually are old broadway pieces played by jazz musicians. but most people mix that up. ... just like that.
alfies theme, by sonny, for example is a classic. there will never be another you is a standart. it was actually part of the musical iceland.
@GrootveldMusic hahaha, Spiricort named artists and players not standards. Try Autumn Leaves, probably THE jazz standard. Stolen Moments is a fun standard. One of my personal favorites are Someday My Prince Will Come and Route 66. I'm a piano guy, so I'm not sure what you'd be looking for.
@GrootveldMusic Try, Charlie parker, dizzy gilliespie, ornette coleman, george russell, wynton marsalis, brian bromberg, angelo de barre and many more
@GrootveldMusic wayne shorter, sonny stitt, dizzy gillespie, barry harris, Brandford Marsalis, thelonious monk, miles davis, stan getz, ken vandermark, keith jarrett. there are so many good jazz musicians...
@GrootveldMusic Well, you've allready got the best two! coltrane and chet baker. George Benson and Wes Montgomery are great, and I like gypsy jazz alot, like bireli lagrene. Enjoy.
@GrootveldMusic Here's some standard tunes: When Sunny Gets Blue, Bernie's Tune, Out Of Nowhere, Autumn In New York, The Days Of Wine And Roses, Foggy Day, Autumn Leaves, Fly Me To The Moon, Take The "A" Train, My Funny Valentine, On Green Dolphin Street, Ain't Misbehavin', Satin Doll, The Girl From Ipanema, and the list goes on.
Here's some Not-So-Standard Tunes: Night In Tunisa, Manteca, Desifinado, Chameleon, Freddie The Freeloader, All Blues, Yardbird Suite, etc. Hope this helps. :)
@TEgnoto89 I'm saying that when playing with a small group for 3 hours, Night In Tunsia doesn't get called very often. But, then again, "standards" are subjective, depending on what town or leader you're playing with. You could be working with a Dixieland jazz group where "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans" and "Honeysuckle Rose" would be appropriate, or, you could be working with a group where "Red Clay" and "So What?" are appropriate. It all depends on the group.
@dogluver417 I think it was probably closer to him coming back to where he was staying late at night, inebriated, and the door had been locked, so he climbed up the lattice/ivy on the side of the house to climb through the window, but fell trying... that's what I think........ still sad.

@dogluver417 The guy sounded haunted when he performed.....when I heard how he died, it just made perfect sense to me that he would have took his own life. The good ones are always tormented in some way....shame, as you are right....Chet was an extremely talented jazz musician. One of my faves.
@dogluver417 there is always a chance somebody "helped" him, as in took "care" of him in the mafia way. you just never can be 100% sure what happened.
@dogluver417 actually that's been a point of contention over the years. according to one story, he got into a fight with this drug pusher who showed up at the hotel he was staying at and, well, you know the rest.
