She is Gojo-Ryu. However, at her level she takes the best from a few styles and incorporates it to make it her own. I will be attending a seminar of hers in a couple of weeks put on by our Shito-Ryu organization.
@184ran - Wow, where is this seminar ? And is there somewhere that has dates of all future seminar Atsuko is apart of?
I would really love to attend one like that as there are not many women karate blackbelts out there that can be inspiring . Well none I know of in Oxford!
@LilMissDoJo Yes, i agree that she is an awesome female kata performer.. and this kata is a Goju-Ryu kata... however Shito-Ryu utilizes kata from many different systems (including Shotokan, Goju-Ryu and Wado-Ryu.) and puts their own spin to them in order to do well at these international type tournaments.. which looks to be the case here to me.. i'm just trying to identify her style bc i'm not convinced she's of a Goju-Ryu school.
@LilMissDoJo the way she performs her kata tells me a lot about where she learned it.. for example the sharp snappiness virtually all her kata is somewhat uncharacteristic of the original Goju-Ryu and more like that of how Shito-Ryu does it.
This in no way takes away from the skill she uses in her kata performance.
I have her autograph!

@mfaries42 She trains Goju, but as is the case with many Goju practitioners she has to expand her kata to Shito Ryu for competition
