thats not what I learned. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS (the ultimate stage). The virus evolved from SIV (simen immuno-deficientcy virus) and has been in humans since the 1940's, it just didn't start killing people in the west till the 1980's. The virus kills off T cells, and when T-cell count gets below 200 you have AIDS.
