The gold prices may have raised since two years ago but the price of all goods have gone up since 2005 as well as saleries... so maybe with a slight raise the price of gold has stayed relevant
and as for the jurisdiction for us being over there.. the security and safety against a potential terrorist attack is enough jurisdiction to me. Before you can say they had it better than they do now you would have to go see it for yourself before you can make that conclusion
mavtek: what business do we have being over there? are YOU serious? i have a strong feeling that if one of your family members was in 9/11 you would have a totally different view on the war and the fight against terrorism that we are currently fighting in Iraq! And yes i understand that mothers and families want there kids home and safe but those men who have chosen to devote there efforts made that choice
Wow what did I say that offended you so much? I'm uneducated because I said we have no business being over there? Please explain to me why we have any jurisdiction over there, let alone why we invaded at all? Good luck with that, I'm sure we'll find out who the educated one is though.
I'm not as offended so much as I am sick and tired of listening to the diatribe about how we have no right/business in the Middle East.
What rights did any of the Iraqi people have under Saddam Hussein? None. They're human beings that were controlled/murdered/tortured by a tyrant. Giving Iraq the chance of freedom is a great byproduct of us going there to protect the interests of this country and the world.
What rights did they have? They had running water and electricity, they had security, schools, shops, jobs, they don't have that now. I'd say they had it a hell of a lot better under Saddam than they have it now. We had no right to do what we did to Iraq. PERIOD!
Have I been to Iraq? No, but I do know they had it much better than they do now. Are you seriously going to attempt to deny that? Tell me your experience of both being there before we went in and then after.
I'm no isolationist, I say trade with people, be friends, talk with people, leave your weapons in their holster. Defense should be used for defense not offense. Saddam Hussein was not supporting Terror, thats' just an idiotic statement.
Or one could argue that us through the CIA and intervention actually created the Dictators and the Terrorists we so despise. I think the latter is to be more true, and I'm not alone in that thinking. Maybe you should read the 9/11 commission report.
And the open borders... Our borders are not open any more than they were before the war. Our borders have never been heavily gaurded and if there were an attack on our boarders or home land we are a big enough super power to handle a situation while others continue to fight in the east.
I don't think you know how bad the financial situation is. The USSR was a superpower also. And you see what happened, when they ran out. If the other nations that are loaning us money ever decide to pull the plug...
If it werent for the US's presence in the middle east, terrorism would be out of control and the unstable government that is present would be taken over. Yes there are three different types of people that dont get along but none the less they are still formed into one country that needs a system of government and guidlines (which was starting to bow to terrorism before we took action).
I disagree. As bad as the guy that our CIA put in place, to run Iraq, Saddam Hussein, was, he had it under control. And like the 9/11 Commission said, they were no credible threat to us... You think Saddam was going to bow to a Saudi???
Although i am not a volunteer for the US Army(i am currently a student), i would have no problem aiding those in the middle east if a draft were to come into effect again. As for the college classes and common sense, he is trying to further his education and career skills to contribute to our record high and rising economy.
1)Iran has never attacked us but they do harbor and fund terrorism which is reason enough for the U.S. to attack. 2)Did you see General Petreaus' two day long speech in front of the House and Senate? Have you talked to troops that have served? Believe it or not we are making progress in Iraq. 3)The stock market (free trade) is at a record high, one of its strongest points in economic history. 4)There has not been an attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. How many terrorist plots have been broken up?
For you and the guy above you, I'm not sure where you get your intel from. All is not well in this country. And roughly an est. 77-84k Iraqis have been killed. They're doing so great... Despite what you're hearing about our record economy, our dollar has been surpassed by the Canadian dollar, our dollar is at its record low against the Euro, and gold is back up to nearly $850/ounce from $300, two years ago... Halliburton is now an offshore, if that helps to see into the future any.
1) Iran has never attacked us. 2)Progress in Iraq? Are you f'ing kidding? They're begging us to leave and quit screwing them over. 3) We can't afford it. Inflation is in freefall mode as it is. 4) Making more enemies while our borders are left wide open seems like a good idea to you?
Part 1. sstearns- you are ignorant. you cant honestly believe that the daily show and the colbert report are the best possible sources of information.
I believe this individual does have common sense and realizes that you can support the war and not go and fight. He is helping his country by going to college so that he will become a productive citizen. Economists have proven that higher education is vital for this country's success and has greatly improved this nation's productivity and gross domestic product.
I did say he had common sense. So why is your reply inferring the opposite? And experts and economists can say what they want. Education does not always guarantee a good income or a job.
Part II. mlang52- i appreciate soldiers commitment and what the military does to protect us. However, those who stay behind and do their best to contribute to society in other ways are not criminals. My grandfather was in Vietnam and my father was in the airforce througout the first gulf war. I however am a college student with no involvement in the military. I still support it. Am I wrong?
I had a draft number of 365 and I went to college, myself. No Viet Nam! Education does not guarantee you a job, or big income, though! The man has ways of stealing it from you! The statement meant that this guy had enough sense to want an education and not choose to risk his life for an illegal war! We cannot fix the religious "nuts" (Muslims) brains!! Did I call him a crimnal?

The sooner the troops come home the better. The surge is a crock we have no business being over there.

You know that sitting on your ass in front of a computer, right?
Go over there sometime before you open your fat, uneducated mouth.

We, as a nation, have a great interest in getting rid of sycophantic dictators in an era of terrorism.
One could argue that our isolationist views supported by people like yourself and Ron Paul are the reason terrorism has made it's way to the U.S.

He doesn't.
But anyone can look at the money given to Ron, by the guys that are 'boots on the ground', and say that he must be on to something.
They just wanna come home too.
