  • dude how you get this game nowadays? this rocked back then!

  • Would be good to revamp this in HD or 3D version

  • HOLY GOD DAMN SHIT! I'VE BEEN TRYING TO REMEMBER THIS GAME FOR WELL OVER TEN GOD DAMN YEARS! I remember getting this a long ass time ago on a hard disk and playing the hell outta this and Duke Nukem 3D. thank you gamefaqs and youtube T_T

  • I loved this game so much as a kid.

    Gotta find a download link...

  • was fun when I was a kid , but hated those fmv bg"s

  • by the way, the second boss: I noticed that it has what you could call a "Weak-er" spot, which would be the antenna's at the sides, I think it takes more damage there then in the center of the "Satalite dish."

  • I played this game a long time ago, it was very fun and was did have great graphics for its time, I enjoyed playing it.

  • Wow memory flash back, I owned this game back when I was at Uni and I loved it! I remember something to do with flying tomatoes when you completed the game! Another game I had at the same time as Lawn Mower man and the sound track to that was like this! Excellent!

  • I worked on some of the sprites for this game (I was an intern at the time) the guys and gal who made this where super awesome talented artists, I wonder where they are now

  • GOD!! Iremember loving the sound while fighting the first boss, this is so nostalgic:D

  • The music was so good I almost looked at this game as an interactive soundtrack.

Since I didn't have a joystick this game actually taught me how to ten-key by touch, lol. Life skills can't be learned by video games?

By the way, still a great video, still one of the best gaming experiences in my memory. Thanks for posting.

  • I remember getting this game in some Attack Stack bundle with a bunch of other ~1995 DOS games. It was pretty cool for an FMV game, I could never get past level 3 without using the TOMATOES secret level skip ahead cheat.

  • amazing game, I m remember!

  • i still have the original box everything in mint condition. Great game and music sfx!

  • I had the shareware, never forgot this music

  • If I had a software company, I would make re-make of this game. Pysgnosis did some amazing game back in the days for Commodore Amiga and PC's. Novastorm, Microcosm, Walker for psygnosis, etc. I think it was a British Company! I have a iso file of this game...

  • i played this 13 years ago, it makes me so nostalgic

  • i remember playing this for hours when i was a little kid.

  • j'ai fait un remix du son :)

  • OMG!

    I spent hours playing this!

    Very good!

  • found old disc with demo of this game. good memories of playing it :D

  • Man I loved the music is this game. I would of been about 8 when I first played it! Forgotten classic!

  • oh god the memories!!

  • I really liked this back then. A fun game!

  • Novastorm soundtrack is available in very high quality.

Just type in google these words :

"saladedemais novastrom soundtrack" and you will find it on the blog's comments...

  • @dricks2222 thx so much 4 that ;)

  • I was around 9-10 years old when I played this but somehow the sound of a smart bomb always stuck with me lol I don't know why :)

  • Been ages since I played this, such a fantastic game.

  • This was a great game, it was practically a family game and everybody but my mom played it, the game was awesome, I was the first one to beat the game, I think my sisters just flat out gave up on it though. Great game, great graphics, I still have this game!

  • Same here... only we had the demo version that lasted up to that level on 5:40. Played it into the ground and finally lost the disk.

  • psygnosis made masochistic games:)

  • Hey, is there some way to get this working on a newer computer? Every time I try to play it, it randomly closes itself down... usually around the third set of levels (the ice planet).

I tried running it with VDMC (a DOS emulator) and run it in compatibility mode, but so far, I got nothing. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • try dosbox

  • try downloading dosbox

  • Hey

CAn someone tell me when was this game created... just for my own reference... Thanks!!

  • 1995 by Psygnosis

  • still cool after decades. this is called classic

  • I remember that guy kept saying "turning back, we're doing it again," forever and ever until you beat the thing.

Also, that first boss haunted my dreams. It was so ethereal!

  • could you add me as a friend cuz i need to ask you somthing :D

  • This game had a kickass soundtrack! This is the PC version. The SEGA CD version had a different shitty soundtrack.

  • hey i figured out how to record the sound from this game, send me an email for the link... Now you can enjoy novastorm sound track while driving in your car. lol.........

sounds pretty good with a sound system... especially the techno part.

  • Hey could you email it to me, i sent you a message via youtube

  • wow i've gotten like 20 emails, i didn't expect everyone to be so interested..... Let me get them uploaded to a website and let me see, it takes time!

I could put them all as 1 big track, but its soo hard to survive. YES, i have to record while i am playing the game, Its a pain.

edit edit edit! thats all i ever do!

    Soooo worth it...

  • I used to have this on MCD but it was busted. The FMV would stop moving about half way through the last level, so i never finnished it.

The ice level is the most memorable, for me atleast. FAR better than the planets wich were a bit bland.

How come the first boss diddnt toast you when the FMV ran out?

  • Does anyone know how to get the music from this game?

Awesome game, i remember having it on a demo pc disk then buying the real thing.

  • yes, i am in the process of recording the music, problem is, i need to play throughout the whole game! Send me a youtube message for the LINK. Everyone else is welcome to do so too. ITS FREE

sounds really good with a good sound system, just burn it to a CD and blast it!!!!

  • I simply love the music in this game!

  • This game is a truly hardcore game game is so damn fun.

  • i loved this game when i was a kid, i remember quitting on the second disc in some ice map

  • It plays ssooo well!!! no lag!!! WHat kind of a PC are you using to play this game??? an emulator?? what are u using?? This is like my ultimate favorite game. no joking around. my PC was always laggy with this game, how'd u get it so perfect?? please respond --Robbie

  • Hi Robbie, I never had lag with this game on my PC. Some commenters have used the DOSBox emulator with success so you could try that. Good Luck!

  • Well it works great on the dos emulator, but my CD is very skratched, i havent played it years. Which explains why the game is laggy and skips. THIS game actually plays better on the HARDDRIVE rather than just playing it off of the CD.

So i just bought a new one, i am going to make a sound track of this game once i get the new CD in the mail within december. As high quality as i can get it. Since i know everyone wants it. IT WILL BE FREE!

  • THIS GAME needs to be REMADE! same everything, better quality. Especially being played on the PS3, wow!!!

  • @brontoe you can get this on ebay for a dollar lol

  • When I owned the game I wonder how long it took me to realize that spread shot sucked

  • Yes, you're right. I think it's one of the game's traps, to knowingly offer a bad weapon. It does what it says, spreads the shot, but for the bosses, you need concentrated shots! :)

  • @testtestsmith hahaha... yeah.. and as u power up the lazers gets bigger. but i never got to the full bar... i only got to pwr level 7 highest. and i remember theres a way to recharge the shield without dying, it simply reloads the boss intro and u get shield back... hmmm u ever got that??

  • Lol i still own the original game... somwehire stashed away in an old box :)

It was a cool game with cool moview/music.

  • i have this game and work on my xp

  • Oh...my...GOD!

I forgot all about this game. I used to have this for the PSX like eons ago. I wonder if I still have it?

I bought it online before the era of EBGames and Gamestop: there was only Funcoland! Anyone remember that?

Geez.. good times on that game lol

  • how is the mega cd version? is it good enough to be worth buying?

  • OMG my favorite old game!! 10-12 years ago when I was 8-10, gamed a lot this prog.

THANKS A LOT for this video!

    UP from Hungary!

  • Das beste Game und Sound !!!

Hab dafür noch Extra einen alten PC stehen.

    Einfach SUPER !!

    Thanx for Uploading !!

  • i want a remake of the game in HD-Quality !!!

...with supersonic flights over the islandic plains or the deserts of Sudan .....

... how long will i need to wait ...

  • I had this for PC, loved it and managed to beat the game without cheating. It's easier if you DON'T use tomatoes because you can build up more weapons.

Just tried the Playstation version, and it's very lacking... the music is nowhere near as good, and neither are the landscapes. I wish I still had the PC version!

  • can you send me the soundtrack please? This is awesome!

  • i played this on ps1 demo version when i was some 5 years old

  • I've ripped the PC soundtrack a while ago. If you want it, just send me a message and I will send you the soundtrack by email.

Oh, the my soundtrack does not contain sound effects :)

  • How have you ripped the PC Soundtrack?

  • I started the game in DOSBOX, started Creative Recorder in the background (records all music that is currently playing in the "active window"), played the game without sound effects (turned off in menu), completed the game, quit the game, saved the recording, edited the recording (save level music, boss music etc), cleaned up the files, converted the wav files to mp3 and finally renamed the files.

  • If you could send me the soundtrack, that would be great! I've been looking for the OST for the longest time!

  • Wow.. I loved this game when I was in high school. Agreed, I wish they could release the soundtrack or find the musician to release it :)

  • ohmy... what good memories!

I really loved the music in this game, sadly I can't get the sound to go correctly, and my Dosbox does not want to run ok :(

By the way... do any of you know where I could get the music? I really love it ^^

  • i still have this game on a CD... lol I loved playing it, could never get enough

  • Like metroidprime170 i want the soundtrack. Some link???.

Besides, i have the original game for Pc and with the "DosBox" emulator i can it play very-very-well.

    Great play testtestsmith!

  • I believe the outer backround was in cgi besides everything else was in game. been long time since I played this game. but what you expect anyways, its back on ps1. great music though. tough game

  • Best shooter ever! god damn it! I love it.

  • Can someone please rip the music for this, pretty please?

  • I have been looking for this Game for ages, me and my brother LOVED this game. Thanks for posting this vid it really brings back memories!!

Does anyone know where you can download it?

  • I cant agree more with the positive comments. I've been hunting for the MP3's some one might have dubbed for the music. maybe next paycheck i'll buy a copy and rip the music while playing. I cant find a converter to load and play the music files out of the game. I'd love to take the music with me in my MP# player to work. I never played the full game but had the demo disc wich i lost long ago yet seemed to keep the cd cover for it.

Yea. Love that music. Thanks for posting.

  • They should remake this game. I was stunned when I saw this first on PC. The Cdroms were a brand new concept and these are one of the ealiest cd games. I still have the game.

  • I would ask testtestsmith to play the game again disabling the sound effects and post the videos again...

  • Ho ho ho! The sounds, the WONDERFUL music (1st to 4th levels), the images, the Enya-like voice... What a remembrance! Thanks, testtestsmith!!!! Watching this is truly a time-machine... I could reach the 12nd level... There were 15 in total. I was like 12 years old by that time... If you typed "tomatoes" during the first level you jumped to the 13rd level, if I remember well...

It´s been a dream of mine to HEAR THE MUSICS AGAIN(1st to 4th levels) since I lost my original cd.

    Can anyone help???

  • This game is great and I love you for posting this movie. And the PC version to boot, non that shitty PS one :D

  • i would get to level 7 and could never get past it

  • man oh man! I cannot forget how this game - especially the cut scenes - blew me over when I was like 7!

  • This is the bet game i have played. I completed all leveles blown the robot head up and savedthe Earth, then i did it on HARD leve. I love the music. Anyone knw where i can get it or how to rip it from the cd?.

    Steve

  • A salute to Novastorm! I've played this game back in the days when it just came out and it STILL is awesome! It's just kicks ass with stunning graphics and a fantastic soundtrack! It easily holds up to this day! I still play it on my PC enjoying it. Great to know I'm not the only one appreciating the quality of this first superb shoot em up! Thank you very much for posting your Novastorm gameplay!!!

  • thanks for posting, i missed this game so much

  • Me and my bro used to spend weeks playing this game - really great to see this!

About 5 years ago I found a copy for £5 in a GAME store and bought it right away - best £5 I ever spent!

The music is yet to be surpassed with computer games IMO, about 3 years ago I managed to get all the music in mp3 format.

Have you ever tried the 'tomatoes' cheat???

  • Haha, yes indeed, the tomatoes cheat is very amusing!

I also got more than my money's worth out of this game. Once I let a visiting nephew play it, and it was fun to see what he was unknowingly doing wrong! I could see he was going to lose within 10 or 15 minutes, but he didn't like being told!

  • that was a nice game :) Classic!

  • Excellent videos. I still have this game, and I LOVED it. But I was never being able to get pass the Fire Bird.

Maybe I'll play again when classes will be over. Any tips to give me?

And that snake used to creep me out when I was 7.

  • Some tips :-) A simple hack gives you 255 lives. Why is this worthless? Also, why is there no Save Game feature? Answer these questions, you can beat the game every time. Oh, and get a joystick if you're only using the keyboard. Good luck! :-)

  • What is this hack? I never found that! Can you post a link?

  • The hack was written up in a PC gaming magazine around 1995. I forget what it was except it was cinchy. But the extra lives do you no good. The person who found the hack thought he was being clever, but he should have asked himself just why it was so cinchy. In effect, the game designers played a joke on him!

  • Hi - love your Novastorm videos. I've been waiting years to see the opening to the PC version again, will you be uploading it as well? Thanks.

  • Should be up now. Star Corp were swamped with desperate cries for assistance!

  • Many thanks - what app did you use to rip the videos??

  • A TSR I wrote in Turbo Pascal. I lost the source and don't want to release just binary. There are probably some capture utilities for DOS available on the internet.

  • Brilliant game & soundtrack!

Is there any way to run this game on a modern machine?

  • You should be able to play with DOSBox on a modern machine with some tweaking. If you need help, send me a message.

  • oh, I so want a sound-rip of this game! :D

  • ahh the memories! =)

  • hated the brit-accented briefing dude tho..

    * TOMATOES * :D

    awesome game..

  • I so remember the tomatoes cheat!!! those freaky clown things you had to shoot in the tunnel lol!!

  • i beat this game a long time ago. sigh i miss it.

  • beste shoot game ever ... I have all versions ... I love it!!

    very inspiring !

  • God I loved this game - fantastic music

  • nostalgie, nostalgie....
