  • I love this!!! I have been watching the Hendrix at Woodstock dvd & really dig it.

    Great job as usual!

  • Yeah, that is what inspired me to cover this cool tune!

    Thanks, wolfstan64!

  • Thanks, ajl123!

  • id love to see somebody cover jimi's instrumental song "House of the Rising Sun" you know the one without the vocals (hate that one haha) and you look like the perfect person to me. so in any case that would be awesome =D

  • Cool idea! I'll go look around for Jimi's version, and see if I'm inspired! =D

    Thanks for watching, DKT!

  • jimi style and Zappa face :)

  • LOL yeah!...I get that a lot! =D

    Thanks for watching, forgia!

  • Yes, I often play "Third Stone". The problem is, the mind bending solo section in the middle. That will take some time to master! =D

    Thanks for watching, Ohflamey!

    Peace~

  • OK. I will do my best to get a lesson made someday. It's pretty easy to play, so you may be able to learn some of it from this video. It's more about feel and "timbre", and getting the tone as close to Jimi as possible.

    Thanks for watching, Ohflamey!

  • WHOA that was an awesome cover Hendrix would be proud, I love this song any chance of tabor video lesson ?

  • Thank you very much, VeraOW!

I will consider a lesson video if I get enough requests for one. Anybody else?

Of course, I do not have TAB for this. I play by ear on everything I do. I just let Jimi's vibe show me the way! =D

    Peace~

  • i'm interested in learning this as well..i love the break down part in this song

  • OK, that's request number two!

I'll give the lesson more consideration now. =)

  • Right on, I learned this song by ear, also, since I could only hear it from the woodstock performance. I don't know, but the breakdown with the one riff is so great...I've loved this song ever since I heard it. Great song.

  • who would have thought we'd ever witness beginnings by hendrix being played by the ghost of frank zappa

  • I get that a lot! =D

I must sub-consciously want to look like FZ!

I am one of Frank's biggest fans, so it's all good! :-[-

    Thanks for watching, studvalley116!

  • very good played and sound is like original, tks for posting.

  • Thanks, PerttiKy!

Tone is everything, and I found it by accident one day (hint: middle pickup). =)

    Peace~

  • where can i find a full tab for this song/how did you learn it??? its really aggravating me cuz i want to learn this song so bad!

  • I don't know if tab exists for this.

Hey, I may do a lesson video for this soon.

    Stay tuned! =D

    Peace~

  • 100% WICKED! What set-up are you using to create that sound? it's perfect!

  • Thanks for that, ashleytitre!

My gear is listed on my channel page. Check it out. This particular tone comes from the Stratocaster's middle pickup, plus a reverb effect from an Alesis NanoVerb box.

    Peace~

  • YOu man, you are tite! this is wow!

  • Thanks, degario1!

    I appreciate the compliments!

    Thanks for watching.

    Peace~

  • WOW your unreal, best covers I've seen on youtube! Do some more John Mayer, lol, as he is my favourite( too young to have grown up to SRV and Jimi, but they are the best)Your cover of " Who Do You Think I Was" is Fantastic. Do you learn all of this by ear?

  • Thanks very much, mcdeals87!

I wish the John Mayer Trio would get back together for another album. I obviously liked JM's sound on this one, and I wish there was more to cover. And, yes, I play by ear (because I was too lazy to learn to read music). Oh well, I trust my ears! =D

    I'm open to suggestions! Peace~

  • Playing by ear is harder then reading music! Not everyone can do that!Look out for a new DVD coming out of John Mayer, I read on his blog, it is of a performance in LA if I'm not mistaken, it includes a Set with the Trio, an Acoustic set, and a set with the band he toured with this summer to play the tunes of Continuum and TRY! Keep on rockin, Im a young guy so its good to have an inspiration of a normal guy that can rock! Hopefully one day I can play at your level!

  • Thanks for the info on the upcoming JM DVD. I can learn a lot by actually 'seeing' him play.

Just the same, it's cool that a young guy like you are inspired by the same music that inspires me. Keep rockin'! Peace~

  • OUTSTANDING!

I can hardly wait to see your rendition of Machine Gun.

  • Thanks, Defector5!

Trust me, it's on my to-do list. It's all in the approach...and taking lots of time to learn each "phrase". I gotta stay true to Jimi. =D

    Peace.

  • Hey man, thanks!

I just discovered your channel today.

    Great stuff over there!

    Peace.

  • rad!

  • Thanks, norcal707gt!

And thanks for including this one in your "favorites". Much appreciated, bro!

    Peace.

  • First time I heard this song was on the CD of 'Jimi Live at Woodstock' i think; i have liked it from then on !

very nicely covered i have to admit ! you got da feeling for this kind of stuff !!

    Rock on !

  • Yes, it is on the Woodstock CD (with Larry Lee doing a lead solo, but the camera never gets him in the frame).

Hey man, thanks for including many of these in your "favorites" list! Let's keep spreading Jimi's music around!

Who first exposed you to Jimi's music?

  • o.o nice work i like it

  • Thanks, Spy1228!

And thanks for making this one of your "Favorites", too!

    Peace.

  • wow great, perfect sound, sounds exactly like the album

  • Thanks, slimshady1111!

Yes, I was able to channel Jimi's tone from my gear on this one.

    Peace.

  • nice bro!

  • Thanks, Abazaba66!

Also, thanks for putting this in your "Favorites" list!

    Peace.

  • Thanks, whitesummer4!

Yes, I learned all of these Jimi covers by ear. This one was fairly easy to figure out(except for the lead solo, which goes everywhere!). I got lost...can you tell?

    Thanks again for watching.

    Peace.

  • Thanks, qtipsch!

I'm glad 'ya dig! I'm diggin' it big time!

    Peace.

  • Thanks, hankjunior!

Maybe I'll play some Hank Jr (or TriCephus) someday.

    Thanks again for watching!

    Peace in 2008.

  • Wow, great attention paid to to the tone and feel of the piece, im trying to put up a cover from the woodstock performance i just dont know how to combine larry lee's solo too, but as for yours A++

  • Thanks, Robokiller!

One day when I was messing around, I stumbled upon the tone for this song, and then proceeded to learn it. Yes, the studio version is less complicated than the Woodstock version.

Here's a thought...you could record Larry Lee's solo, and then play along with it. I am working on a version of "Ain't No Telling" using that plan. We'll see if it works.

Thanks again for the recognition here.

    Peace in 2008, bro!

  • always love that groove that comes in at 1:29:) and u hit it dead in the bulls eye bro:) 5/5

  • Thanks, organizedblues!

At the end of the drum solo, you may notice at about 2:27, I glance over at my CD player's digital readout, so I don't miss the cue when the guitar comes in again at 2:29.

    Thanks for watching!

    Peace.

  • o thats wu your doing...haha nice:) right on point:)

have a happy new years bro:)

  • yea this sounds great, the woodstock one is very hard, Mr.lee does a nice solo while hendrix plays rythm for the first part.. that was very peaceful

  • Yes, Larry(?) Lee does not get camera time during his solo on the Woodstock video, which is a shame. I would have loved to see him play. He has very good chops!

    Thanks for watching, bro!

    Peace.

  • DAMN NOW THAT'S A Stratocaster FOR YOU!!!!!!!

    You rock man!

  • Damn straight, bro!

    Thanks for that!

    Peace.

  • Amazing the spirit is stong in you! Thanks for sharing fantastic.

  • It's a "near obsession" with me, bro!

    I appreciate the compliment!

    Peace.

  • I'm way over in Texas, bro! I'm glad to see Jimi's music embraced all over the world.

Thanks for the rating, makes69! It made my day.

    Peace.

  • Where are you from? 5/5. Full credids awesome again.

  • almost near perfect great job

  • This was the 5th take, and I was starting to drive my family crazy! So, I posted this one.

    Thanks! Peace.

  • Haha, If my dad played guitar like this i would find it awsome, and come and jam with him!

  • WOW! Perfect! (except for the part at 1:12-1:17) but amazing man good job!

  • You have a good "ear" for noticing that missed chord, bro! At the same time, YOU are the type viewer I like to play for. You pay attention to detail.

I strive to get a close as possible to every "phrase" Jimi lays down. It's big fun too!

    Peace.

  • Very good performance;) Nice sounding Strat, too.

  • Thanks, 1Wes1!

    Keep Poland rockin', man!

  • That was awesome man! dead on. Is that a CS strat? If those are stock pickups they sound amazing!

I think you look like Frank Zappa, which is cool.

  • Thanks, bro!

This is a 1996 USA Strat (Fender 50th Anniv.) with CS '54 pups installed and a Callahan tremelo block. It also has the rare painted headstock. My Mesa/Boogie DC-5 amp has great Jimi like tone, too.

I am a HUGE Zappa fan (see my ZPZ tour vids), so I appreciate the comment. I wish I could play like FZ!

    Peace!

  • Thats why I thought it was a CS, the painted headstock. The Callaham block really makes a difference too, the clarity is night and day. Nice axe man!

  • man you are so cool, and so was yr guitar!

  • Yeah, I'm pretty laid back, but I need dark sunglasses to be called "cool". I'm very focused on the next riff.

You have real soul and style in your vids, bro!

    Peace.

  • oh,fantastic

btw,you alike Dickey Betts or Glenn Frey

    Peace

  • Thanks, badboyboogie!

    Peace.

  • cool riffs, rock me man. 5*****

  • Thanks, Ethan!

Get an electric guitar, and post some electric Petty! That would be cool.

    Peace.

  • i have an iboniz 1550 prestige and i will post something up soon, you rock, and inspire to. Ethan

  • Thanks a lot, man! I appreciate it.

    Peace!

  • you mean war heroes thats where i get this one from over here am i right??

  • blackdude57,

I did not have a backing track for this song. I just played over Jimi's guitar. I found this cut on the CD "First Rays of the New Rising Sun". It is a later release containing all the songs from "Cry of Love", plus about 6 more songs including "Beginnings".

    Keep on playing Jimi's music!

    Peace.

  • yeah a very bright camera angle and a good sound too i love this song i need a backing track of this keep on rolling eddie

  • very nice!

  • Thanks, PK441041!

    Keep playing Jimi's music! I will. ;)

    Peace.

  • Much appreciated, bl200sx!

Jimi is alive and well on YouTube!

    Peace.

  • dude, this was HUGE. crankin' tone, great playin' and THANKS for a great, clear camera angle. this was educational for me, on top of being a headbobber of a video !!

  • Yeah, that's Jimi's vibes runnin' round my brain!

Thanks for the comment, and keep on jammin!

    Peace.

  • Rock on with Jimi brother !!! Great !!!!*****

  • Amen, bro!

    Thanks for the comments! Peace.

  • oh yeah so great! and that tone... <3

  • Thanks, pedoncule123!

I used an Alesis NanoVerb Digital Processor to get the "room/hall" reverb effect, which allowed me to achieve pretty accurate tone.

    Peace!

  • WOW:)You Rock Brother!!!!!!Them Licks aint no Joke:)you Did This Song Justice:)Peace My Friend:)

    RLR

  • You are too kind, bluesy13!

    Thanks again! Peace.

  • Hey, Hey! This is special! Definitely one of my favorite Jimi tunes. You have great tone too! However, you should be smiling being able to play like you do! 5 stars for sure!-GD

  • Yeah, I really need to improve my stage presence. In spite of my expression, I am having a good time!

    Peace.

  • Out of sight! And some dualing leads with Jimi add nicely...very hip!

  • Thanks, eddie!

The dualing leads was unintentional, as I got lost in the outro solo. I try to mirror him note-for-note, but my noisy bedroom distracted me bigtime. Grrrr.

  • It's all a room full of mirrors...

  • Good one, eddie!

  • So cool to see and ear.... thanks for sharing....

    So great man

    Peace and Happiness

  • Thanks, Enrique!

This means a lot...coming from you. And, it's a fun song to play.

    Peace!

  • Man, that was one of the best Hendrix covers I've heard. That song is from the album "War Heroes", my first and favorite Hendrix album. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks again, SohoBlues!

I am not familiar with that album. I need to check it out.

    Peace.

  • great job

    i love it

    keep up the good work

  • Thanks, utsker!

I have many more covers to do!

    Peace.

  • Great job man. Loved it. What I appreciate so much about you is how you transcribe everything by ear, it's incredible.

  • That's a very nice comment, TheEarthBlues.

The reality is, I was too lazy to learn to read music as a kid. I just grab the neck and play!

And, the most incredible thing is my family's patience and toleration when they are forced to listen to me practice...over and over and over again!

    Thanks again! Peace.

  • No problem man. Guys like you, Jimicolors, taipo inspire me to learn with my ears because I can first hand see how much it helps ordinary people, and not just the known legends.

    How's Machine Gun coming along?

  • Machine Gun is on the "short list". I have a good backing track (studio version), and I just downloaded the same version (with Jimi's guitar included) from the Line6 GuitarPort GearBox website. I need to edit the backing track down to a reasonable length, since the original is over 12 minutes long. One day...
