nice bike, they came with like 90 some horse. i had one with a +12 swinger got it for 50 bucks looked new like that...but my friend broke the swinger on a hill climb and i just parted it out.
@bassoundlikethunda lol not quite, i had a 74 sc500 it was the yellow and black one, in the 90's Dirt Rider magazine did a test on all the old "killer" bikes. this one they dynoed and it was in comparison with a modern 125, i think it busted out a whopping 32 horsepower. 90 is way off.. they were fast but not that fast.
@kingbrian24 ya my bad its 40 horse stock and 90+mph. Someone took the counterbalancer out of mine so it was hard to ride for a long time cuz your body would go numb from the vibrating.
I remember when Dirt Bike magazine tested this back in 73 and they said its gray and black and so is a turkey. They also said it suffered from chronic detonation and seized pistons on a regular basis.
The SC500 came out in '73 and was produced again in '74. Yamaha did not make a '72 SC500. If you had an open class Yamaha in'72, it was an RT2MX, not an SC500.The RT2 was a 360.
73 wasnt the first year for the sc500 as you stated at he begining,, i owned a 72 years back...there death traps..remember the whole "frame breakage" issue, thats why they were discontinued...BUT YES< YOURS IS IN GOOD SHAPE
beautiful bike
