I just saw this movie again after 20+ years, and I loved it with these older eyes. I loved Jon Anderson at the end, it was a very sweet surprise! Thank you for posting this.
@ZipBalloon1989 no doubt it a wicked score.yet this is fueled by nostalgia.when i rediscovered this film.i fell in love all over again.both versions.i still get jazzed when i hear this.

@blaztradiouz666 yeah the euro version had a cheesy musical piece in it and the jerry goldsmith soundtrack was bad - tangerine dream was a hundred times better bcuz this song is awesome
I was born in '92 and i watched Legend, labyrinth, never ending story...all those movies. my kids are gonna do the same, these movies have such a great message in all of them. it makes me look back at my childhood and smile. great stories:)
those are exactly some of the first movies in my life also to add to the group chipmunks, adventure and care bears 2 , and the princess and the goblin ...seems all of these movies have true messages of love and have helped me personaly during this ascension period

The new conan?!?! LMAO!!!
omg this is an awesome film. i remember the first time i heard jon andersons voice, wow!!! i dont know if anyone else could have pulled this off, maybe steve perry, but either way, top 6 movies of my childhood (born 81) ghostbusters, legend, labyrinth, the muppets take manhattan. maximum overdrive, and gremlins. no cgi, no b.s. no black eyed peas or lmfao doing stupid meaningless music soundtracks.
I guess all the magic is gone...which is what these movies have taught us. "Sweet songs of youth, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom...to believe in the good in man.."
@blaztradiouz666 legend, labyrinth,Dark crystal, never ending story,The last unicorn...my whole child hood....that sums it up..my Childhood. Oh not many people can even know the power of these things.
@SuperHeroMania damn... @haastaboozia Imagine this technology of film making in the hands of our favorite heavy hitters of the 80's.The idea of visually stunning films with wicked content.gives me chills.
Legend should get a sequel designed by Ridley Scott - featuring Tom Cruise as Jack and a re-appearance of Tim Curry as Darkness....Out of all the fucking movies this one despirately needs to be continued....Maybe Tangerine Dream can come back together to do a fucking score for this.
This is one of my favorite songs...in truth, I think it is something that has stayed in my heart since I was little. And it goes with the list of such movies like Conan and Red Sonya...
This song is like a dream--the lyrics make little logical sense (loved by the sun?) yet the imagery, melody and rhythm combine to give give a certain surreal mood which transcends its literal message. That's the reason it has stuck with me for all these years.
@Indigopeter Aye, and I find the whatseemstobecommon belief that Hollywood suddenly changed and the golden age of film was robbed of its climax to be really juvenile. As far as my knowledge goes, Hollywood has been operating the same way the last thirty years. IT capitalizes on what it knows people will consume and at this point in time, spoof films and Michael Bay and Emmerich shitflicks are guaranteed to make money on arrival so that is what has the easiest time.
@Indigopeter As for Labyrinth and Legend, they are not excellent in and of themselves. But for fantasy films done during the age of hip culture dominating the cinema output, they do stand out as really well constructed works.
@Indigopeter I STILL watch it entering adulthood :) It brings you back to childhood, and makes you feel the enchantment and magic that you always believed in :)
@allaboutdmagic I was born in 1994 and I great up watching stuff like Legend, Labyrinth, the Dark Crystal, the Last Unicorn, and the Neverending Story. I also grew up learning about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, the Arthurian Legends and other fantasy epics.
@Indigopeter YUP.WE ALL IN OUR MID 30'S. WISHING THE ECONOMY WOULD UP SWING. WISHING WE COULD GET THIS KINDA FEELING BACK...EVEN FOR A MINUTE.I get literally misty every time i hear this song.I get dreamy distant and time seems to stop.the way you feel is the way we all feel.you aint alone.
That is Tim Curry as The Darkness. I always thought he was just the voice over, but nope. The make up effects in this movies better than any digital Avatar.
I saw this first when i was little with my mom, she loved it as a child and so did i. Years later it airs on HBO or Starz and i jump to watch it and hear so orchestra playing and not Tangerine Dreams music, i almost through the remote at my flat screen. I hate the new score its not the one i fell in love with. Tangerine Dream and this movie make perfection, now all i can watch it on is my VHS.
@kyliravampire The Tangerine Dream ST was not the original one. For the North American theatrical release, Ridley Scott had it replaced it with the Tangerine Dream version. When the 'director's cut' version was released, it was with the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack, much to the dismay of those who prefer the TD version. The good news is that the 'Ultimate' DVD and Blu-Ray editions contain both versions.
@FishKepr Word, yeah I was on Ebay, searched for this in dvds couldn't find it. Found out this has just been recently released on Blu-Ray as well. I remember looking for it around February. Thanks.
I think CGI has ruined and cheapened the aesthetic!!!! CGI has become the star. Its become the vehicle instead of story, acting, cinematography and set design. Jeeze, Id rather watch stop motion clay or robotics--has more heart, humanity and artistic merit imo. Movies like this, Excalibur, Conan, Willow were just better and more memorable and watchable.
@SuperHeroMania You have to have seen it as a child. If you had you'd love it. I know this may not be a good defense or argument for the films merits in a critical sense, but art has associations: people, places and things tied to them and eras and memories attached. It is a whimsical film; has more a fairy tale, Brothers Grimm sensibility. I thought Scott captured a certain beauty and magic in some of the smaller moments.
@prisonbreak7775 The beginning is pretty damn awesome but I think the true emotional apex and soaring beauty happens at the release or sort of climax of the song, when it comes to 3:44. It is rapturous and exultant! None the less, the song is beautiful start to finish. Ive loved it since i was a kid. It has what great songs should have--it goes somewhere, takes you on a journey. It has a number of musical themes/motifs and changes so you dont get bored, but still works as a whole. A+composition.
l own this movie on VHS and DVD and now just bought the BLU RAY version and its amazing how this movie is so dam good for being such a old movie, it was way ahead of its time and to watch it on blu ray is amazing. great classic and will never be forgotten by all that have been so lucky to see this movie. it is truly a legend of its own...10/10
Not trying to sound like an asshole but I am SO GLAD that there aren't any "dislikes" or else I'd have to KILL! THIS SONG IS FRIGGIN AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL, and CAPTIVATING!
You probably watched the director's cut version which has a different post production/soundtrack. The theatrical (original) version is the one with the Tangerine Dream Post-production (which has this song in it and all the other awesome soundtracks). If you get the chance, watch the theatrical version because the soundtrack really makes a big difference; it just seems so much more beautiful! This song comes on at the end of the film.
if you watch the theatrical (original) version it is tordes the end. the scene were they are trying to get the light to shine down threw the chimney and they dont know who can climb up it to put the shield on the roof and the one hobbit say he will do it. on the BLU RAY version the movie is 1hr:30min long and the song starts at 1hr:07min.
if that helps you. but not all versions of the movie have the song in it also.
growing up on this movie i 4got how good this movie was. everytyme i c this and here tha music it get's beta and betta. big up 2 Ridley Scott, Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, Tim Curry and tha rest of the cast who held it down.
I remember, when I was a kid, thinking that the singer was a woman. I remember feeling kinda guilty when I found out I was wrong. I mean, Jon Anderson has a great voice. I didn't know anything about him until I started listening to YES.
For me it hits a pretty strong cord, in terms of how; People, past friends, partners, etc...have treated me VERY cruely, "emotionally speaking" over the years. And in return for all that "emotional abuse", I decided to litteraly live a "reclusive lifestyle". Away & devoid from all the "venom", that people seem to spread these days, towards one another. I wish & dream, we didn't live in such a vain "meism" superficial society. One thing is certain, the bad far outweighs any good now a days.
@bergalini It is....And it makes me think, more folks who feel that way, need to open themselves up to the world. Or in other words, fully accept themselves, for how god made them. And most importantly, have "inner peace" of themselves, without the worry or fear, of ridicule, assumptions, & pre-judgement. Unfortunately, since our society today, seems to "negatively thrive" or live by, the above 3 principles.......
I can't get through this song, without balling my eyes out. So i'm not sure, if that's because of my severe anxiety i've suffered with, for a very long time now. Or quite simply, it's sending a VERY strong message, through the lyrics themselves. Either way, i guess my tears are a "mixed bag", of where the world is right now. And of course, what it CAN be in the future, if we truly allow ourselves to; "open up our hearts & feel" as the song suggests.
@maxmodeller I love it! The DVD comes with the USA and the UK extended version. The only thing that sucks with that one is that it doesn't have the beautiful soundtrack. But I love the extra scenes.
I saw Legend when I was 8 at a drive-in movie theater with my dad. This movie will forever be in my top 5 movies of all time. Even with movies such as Avatar (which I loved), they will never top 80s fantasy movies. I hate Hollywood now. It's all about money and power, fu*k the viewers! Legend, Krull, Time Bandits, Goonies, and Princess Bride will never be topped in my lifetime.
@Mikey3046 i freakin love this movie, and the Goonies and Princess Bride, they are some of the greatest movies of all time...along with Lord of the Rings.
@futuremrsrupertgrint OK.LORD OF THE RINGS WAS DOPE...BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM FOR NEVER GETTING TO SEE IT AGAIN.ID HAVE TO LEAVE THE RINGS BEHIND...GOT A FEELING YOU WOULD TOO.
I think the 80's was THE era of fantasy movies. . .Legend, Willow, Dragonslayer, Neverending Story, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Krull, ect.. . .Classics. Even Disney tried to cash in on it with The Black Cauldron, but failed. . .
@BlueFox284 I totally agree with you. There are just some movies that are timeless and should not be forgotten. I'll just add Ladyhawke to your list as well. I make it a point to get my nieces to watch these movies when they spend the weekend. Let them see what real movies were all about.
@tarasvoice The voice you speak of is none other than Jon Anderson of Yes fame. Yes has some great music, some im sure you might have already heard. Owner of a lonely heart is one of their more "recent" song's I could go on and on bout them! But yes he has a wonderful voice I love it as well!
I am not really a Tom Cruise fan...... but this movie is just sickeningly amazing!! Tim Curry is one of my favorite actors and he plays his roll masterfully. This film goes beyond the normal standards of inspiration, shattering the barriers that many erect around there childhood imagination, pulling out the purest elements that really appeal to the ideals, hopes, and dreams we all had at some point. Instant classic!! Perfectly named!! Amazing song!! God this movie rules!!
SUPER SONG I LOVE IT brings back memories of my childhood this movie i love

Not trying to sound like an asshole but I am SO GLAD that there aren't any "dislikes" or else I'd have to KILL! THIS SONG IS FRIGGIN AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL, and CAPTIVATING!

Where in the movie does this song play? i just watched it and didnt hear any part of it...
Shaggyrodrigues 10 months ago
@Shaggyrodrigues
1TYMness 10 months ago
@Shaggyrodrigues
if you watch the theatrical (original) version it is tordes the end. the scene were they are trying to get the light to shine down threw the chimney and they dont know who can climb up it to put the shield on the roof and the one hobbit say he will do it. on the BLU RAY version the movie is 1hr:30min long and the song starts at 1hr:07min.
if that helps you. but not all versions of the movie have the song in it also.

One thing is certain, the bad far outweighs any good now a days.
tomtalker2000 1 year ago
@tomtalker2000 You're not the only one who feels that way. Hope that is comforting for you to know.
bergalini 1 year ago

I have this on a crappy old VHS. Now I need it on DVD.
I love this movie - so do my kids - now late teenagers.
I remember, when they were bored or were being a pain, I'd stick this video on, and there would be silence for two hours.
A classic that will never be bettered!
maxmodeller 1 year ago

Hmmm...
I have just broken the Unicorn in "Red Dead Redemption" (Undead Nightmare) and I suddenly had this song stuck inside my head & plopped this song on.
I'm playing as a certain *ahem* Zombie character, but it doesn't matter to me nonetheless.
(pause)
I have no fetching idea why, but I did it anyways. ;p

I think the 80's was THE era of fantasy movies. . .Legend, Willow, Dragonslayer, Neverending Story, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Krull, ect.. . .Classics. Even Disney tried to cash in on it with The Black Cauldron, but failed. . .
BlueFox284 1 year ago
@BlueFox284 I totally agree with you. There are just some movies that are timeless and should not be forgotten. I'll just add Ladyhawke to your list as well. I make it a point to get my nieces to watch these movies when they spend the weekend. Let them see what real movies were all about.
LittleLadyhawke2 1 year ago
@BlueFox284 The sad thing is that The Black Cauldron was a great book and they killed it.

WHAT A VOICE ON THAT GUY!!!
tarasvoice 1 year ago
