It's called z-cancelling. Press Z right before you hit the ground and you cancel the lag on all aerial attacks. This works for every aerial attack in the game.

Specials (B-button moves) are not affected by this.

Luigi is very slow in the air, that makes him an easy target. With Link's amazing fastfall, he can dive very quickly from the sex kick to a Z-canceled fair, as well as some other great combos. He's also in good shape if can avoid getting hit TOO far. His full recovery is actually about 3/4 of ledge to edge of screen distance. I'd personally place link above samus, dk and luigi, maybe yoshi as well. I'd also consider luigi better than dk.

Luigi is a defensive style character that can protect himself well with the fireballs. Hes slow in the air but I dont think this represents a handicap. On the other hand link has by far the worst recovery. You can kill Link in 30% throwing him off the edge and this is a fact. I think its enough said. Link is bottom tier just a little bit better than Samus who really sucks.

I can understand your recovery argument, I agree it sucks big time, but there's also the fact that the best link players can avoid getting hit far too often, and tiers are based off the performance of tournament level players. And Link is A LOT better than Samus. Samus has two good combos, and they're rather situational. Link has seemingly endless combo options, and they're the most aesthetic combos in the game, even if not the most effective. Nothing matches Falcon's zero-deaths, or pikachu

yeah link has a very big amount of combo options however in example you can find in your way some cheap kirby/pikachu cheap players that the only thing they do is... avoid/find a way to grab you/throw you off/edgeguard... and very small chances to win unless your really good.

And thats where link is understandable is bottom tier

That's why link needs to have good spacing, and have his boomerang out a high percentage of the time, which is why Isai succeeds with Link. He's bottom tier on small stages, but he's much better on stages like Hyrule. And other characters suffer from similar opponent cheapness. e.g. CF's poor recovery has him facing similar edge guard cheapness, and DK is a huge grab target, and is very easy to combo. and don't forget about how easy jiggs is to edgeguard, even if she has great recovery.

Puff is much harder to edgeguard than Link. So is DK. Well I agree about Link being much better in big stages like Hyrule, but as I said before, you have to be very very good with Link to not get thrown off the stage.

Fox and Pikachu are really the only ones Link has to worry about getting jipped by with throws, and they're consequently his worst match-ups. Any other match-up though link can dominate by just spacing his projectiles, which just takes a little practice. That's my only justification for why Link could be so low, he takes technical skill to be really good. But he's the only one who can effectively combo Kirby, and his bombs work great against DK's recovery. also great combos on Mario and CF.

Ness owns Link? lolz, the general consensus on gamefaqs is that Ness is one of Link's best match-ups. Link can combo Ness to death with projectiles. All Ness can do is hope to get close enough to throw, juggle or spike. um, can you rephrase that DK line?

and I didn't say that other characters can't combo Kirby, I said Link is the best at it. Kirby DI's really well, but Link can pursue with his projectiles. That's also a consensus on gamefaqs.

I can totally buy ur Ness argument for small stages, but on a stage like Hyrule, its easy for a skilled Link player to avoid it. shit, look at Isai, look at this match. Tsukuru had him at the edge a couple of times but Isai had no problems, other matches are better examples. Even on Dreamland, Isai can pwn characters with spam throws using Link, cuz he can space himself.
