@ThePanzerWarMachine The golan heights are excellent military defensive positions. In addition, it has a lot of water (15% of Israel's supply) and attracts 3 million tourists a year (The Sea of Galilee which is the place where Christians/Jews/Muslims believe Jesus walked on water is there).

It's also a matter of diplomacy, the entire world recognizes the Golan Heights as Syrian territory. If they concede it to Israel, then that would be disastrous diplomatic move.

But wars broke out, initially to push the Jews out of Palestine by the Arab countries. The Arabs lost several times, and retaliated by kicking the Jews out of Arab countries. So they of course moved to Israel.

Thus Palestine is Israel now.

To both parties it was way to strategicly important to be given up.

As Israel, when it was formed, was immedeatly fighting for survival, I think the Golan heights were one of their major problems, so in the six day war, they might just have wanted to put some defensive space between their enemy and themselves. And one shouldn't forget the effect on moral of losing or gaining territory.

Israel will not give the land back to its owners, not because of any security concerns (I don't know if you've noticed, but Syria is hardly in a position to threaten anybody), but because it would give Syria access to the lake which provides something like a third or 2/3 of Israel's water supply is from there.

They lost the battle when they retreated to mount another attack at night after failing with the first attack.

That way they lost the element of suprise. And as we know their plan was based on suprise to break through the israeli lines like the germans did in Poland.

Israel hasnt had a conventional war in 30 years and all it fought were poorly trained and equipped Syrian and Egyptian forces. Yes they were large in numbers but weren't able to carry out successful operations in the modern battlefield. And those "highly trained guerrillas" are the Hamas, which are farmers with AK-47s. The only somewhat capable force Israel ever faced was the Hezbollah in 2006, which ended up defeating the Israel.

syria and egypt had the best soviet equipment at their time so they were well equipped with mig 21, best anti air rockets su-200 and t62, they had 20 000 soviet officers training them so they had decent training and they fought the IDF when it was stretched on 2 fronts

hezbollah is also a guerilla force, they did not defeat israel but they managed to destroy a couple of old mk1 and mk2 so i guess it was an achievement for them
