I have actually built one of these and DAMN it's ridiculous. It gives my clean channel more drive than my drive channel has... but the sound is just awesome.
@LeviMan2001 from zvex's site: This is the perfect preamp pedal. The "Crackle Okay" volume knob is a negative-feedback control styled after classic 60's recording console inputs. (They crackled when adjusted too.)
it's perfectly normal. the knob is labeled "crackle okay" for a reason. it's a little hard to see on this video
this guy is awesome !! funny as hell when trying to use his foot . gearmanndude you definately need to do a wah review so we can see those kick ass nasty boots getting down !!
the sho isn't designed primarily as an overdrive. it's supposed to add clarity. from the website - ost vintage guitars suffer from steadily deteriorating magnets in their pickups, since permanent magnets aren't really forever. The Super Hard-On's input impedance is so high (>5 Meg) that it refuses any current flow from your pickup... maintaining the most magnetic field around each string, so you can hear exactly what your pickup sounded like the day it came off the winder.
I can respect that in a pedal. But if I'm going to spend over 100$, I really expect the pedal to do more than turn up my volume knob for me. I realize it helps to "pull in more sound" and can emulate a more original tone from one's pups, but it's just not my cup of tea. There are plenty of pedals out there that sound better for the same or less money; pedals that can do what this one does and a lot more. I don't dislike the pedal, I just find the Luther more capable all around.
If you dont mind me asking how much was your king bee telecaster... Im looking for a new guitar and i wanted a tele so if you could let me know how much i need for a king bee
Mate honestly, even If i wasn't interested in pedals and what not Id still be subbing to your videos, genuinely hilarious, but genuinly informative too. Thanks again for all the great demos GMD.

Wow was that pot scratching? That's sad. Anything new shouldn't have scratchy pots. Unless, that's used.

I think this pedal is ok for clean boost but the massive volume increase makes it useless for me to use it to push your amp into overdrive.
