@ross1983c except that the Corries were known advocates of Independence, the song also talks of rising and becoming a nation again ... I think that sounds fairly emphatic of the songs sentiments. For independence to work we need to be forward looking and put the past behind us, it's the future that matters.

name Britain when the Roman Province of Britannia formed part of it. So I know that lots of Irish people dislike the term British Isles being used for the whole island group - but that is a modern phenomena based on modern 'understandable' prejudices. It is kind of pissing in the wind though. The name is thousands of years old and used quite innocently by the vast majority of people in these islands.

@truefalse For the last time you wee dick, I am not and will never class myself as British. Technically living in Scotland doesn't make me British as I'm actually half Irish and half Scottish. Which allows me to choose... A bit like Football. If you have two nations in your family, you can pick which team to play for. Therefore I choose to be Scottish and Irish and Ireland are not British which makes me not British. Git it up ye!

I believe the term for that part of the British Isles connected to the UK (ie all the said islands bar Ireland) is the British Islands - thoguh I don't think it is used much. The term British Isles (or derivations of it) is the original name for the island group predating even the main islands being called Britain. It's original name was Albion only taking on the
