  • Matt Just Posted the Rode Blimp Raw test, just added sound to picture nothing other than having the HPF @120Hz /12dB/Oct to cut LF noise, feel free to have a look, the wind is about 45MPH in the real world :o)

  • The NT4 would be a "heavy" option, but if you can get it in there, with close to an inch of dead air-space around the mic heads... and you could get it to "float" in suspension (I don't know if they have a big enough set of "rings" for that)... then it would basically have to work... as it's basic physics. Being honest though... I'd be surprised if this is the best solution for that particular mic. If it fits, and has airspace... well... try it :-)

  • @sonicsuitcase You arrogant prick, not everyone can afford rycote gear you overly opinionated dumb-ass. Learn to give your opinion a little more gracefully.

  • @TheLouie86 I agree Rycote are expensive, but they charge for their build quality, the Rode is a great entry level system,I have used it in some rough situations and weather, see my channel for rough tests on the rode blimp and NTG2..and you are correct in saying not everyone can afford Rycote but they are worth saving for..in the meantime there is Rode & Reindheardt

  • BTW do you think a rode nt4 could fit into the blimp?

  • Could you tell me what this is like in wet weather - does fur throw water ?

  • @sonicsuitcase I've used Rycote products for a lot longer then I've used Rode... and I still have mostly Rycote gear. I do agree with you regarding the weight... and the Rycote fur is more "wispy"... I prefer the Rycote furry. Hopefully Rode may take note of these two issues and see about reducing the weight in the future. Still... THE POINT here, is that a "regular guy" can get a fantastic performing blimp for real world use... for less then HALF the cost of a Rycote.

  • I think you're being unreasonable to say it's "garbage"... because there's one thing I can guarantee you, my Rycote blimp is way more FRAGILE then the Rode blimp... so... sloppily built? When's the last time you dropped your Rycote from even just a few feet off the floor? If you have, then your blimp front is totally bashed in... (and then you push it back out of course) the Rode has withstood stuff like that easily, so the extra weight isn't for nothing. If we're being 100% honest here.

  • It looks bloody huge.

  • Great video. Just wondering, how about handling noise from the boom? Is the suspension good enough to take care of that? And, does it come with different clips for different mics? I was planning to use this with a mkh 60, witch is not a completly sperical mic. Would that be a problem?

  • ..I love those annotations. At one point I just completely stopped paying attention to the actual content of the video.

  • Great piece of Kit,looks more than just an everyday Acoustic system.

  • Just ordered one. Thanks Matt!!

  • thank yo, really instructive

  • Excellent presentation! A pleasure to watch. Thanks.

  • nice review and awesome blimp system. its still a lotta cash to drop on just a mic holder but if you consider the fact that this is ALL you would need for a variety of microphones, it can work very well.

  • The hearter was a good ice-breaker (literally) LOL. Great review of the Rode blimp...you sold me. Thanks

  • Thanks for the video review--helps me a lot!

  • nice review of the blimp. I have taken advantage of the promotion for Nov, Dec where you can purchase this $300 blimp for only $1 when you purchase an NTG-3.Furry is probably the proper term. I call it a muppet. Rode calls it a dead wombat or something like that.

  • Just bought my ntg3 and rode blimp is on it's way! was using sennheiser blimp so far, very nice peace of gear, but having a cable running through your grip and having a handle sliding along the bar is a great asset from rode!

  • I own the system, it came with the mini boom, boom bag, and extra fittings for the shockmount for different mics. The only complaint I have about the system so far is the locking latch system... it's plastic, and when you have it at the end of a 11' pole and weighted down there's a lot of stress on that plastic joint. I don't expect it to last long before it cracks under stress or strips out. If Rode could address this issue with stronger materials.. this system is total win.

  • I'm a partner on YouTube and currently moving into the prosumer market...I'm about to get a Rode NTG-2 with the Blimp. I do a lot of outdoor filming and this could be the answer to my dreams. Rumble free outdoor recording. I laughed out loud at your heater problem because I have the same issue with the gas central heating, it makes such a row! Now where is that delivery man??? !!!

  • I am getting my package tomorrow ;D

I am so excited, I am getting my Rode Blimp and NTG-2 xD

I am getting to do a review from opening the box ;)

  • hey, I ordered Rode NTG-2 and a Rode Blimp. Can't wait for the package! You have no idea how much I saved for the Rode Blimp.

  • and NTG-2

  • hey, I am thinking of to buy a new mic, so what would you guys recommend?

    Rode NTG- etc..

    or

    Sennheiser?

    please answer, anyone

  • It depends on what are you going to do with it.

    Music or film?

    Indoor or outdoor?

    Dialogue or ambient sounds?

Are you going to use it on a boom, handheld or mounted on camera?

  • I am thinking of getting on a boom, for a movie

  • If you haven't bought yet, go with Rode NTG series. Much cheaper than the Sennheisers, with comparable quality. The NTG-1 and 2 (both the same thing, but 2 holds batteries or uses Phantom (off camera power source that improves audio quality slightly) while 1 is lighter and Phantom only) are among the very best shotgun microphones you can get for under $300, while the much more expensive NTG-3 compares with Sennheisers almost twice its price.

  • does that fit Rode mini boom pole.

  • does the blimp helps with the queeke noise from the microphone? 'cause that's also kind of my problem.

  • Do you mean handling noise? Please elaborate and I'll try to post another video to better answer your question.

  • I got mine a couple days ago and love it, thanks Matt. At first I wondered if the fitted clamps would fit around my (standard diameter?) Rode NTG-2 mic, but they fit fine. Once I centred the mic properly to fit in the case, everything was good.

I love the product (handle is great) but didn't like Rode's very brief included manual (with the "full manual" only available online). That aspect is a bit cheap at this price. It's MADE IN CHINA and a great product but still too much $, IMO. Thanks!

  • Awesome video! I just ordered mine, and can't wait to try it out.

  • So ,,what does it sound like in the field.

  • I put up a new video to demonstrate performance on a very gusty day. Click my videos and you'll see it listed as RODE BLIMP Performance Demonstration. Thanks for your interest and your input. -Matt

  • Just what I needed before buying. Thank you. K-Tek and Rycote - in particular - should be worried. I still find these things outrageously overpriced, even at this price (Chinese clone, when?) but given the user demographics and the apparent lack of competition, they can price it at a premium and get away with it. Well done on this very informative vid.

  • Thanks for this demonstration! I've been looking for a clip just like this for a long time.

  • Thanks for the review Matt. Seems like an awesome product at an unbeatable price.

  • Thanks for making this! Getting one tomorrow.

  • Excellent job Matt!

  • Thanks Matt, you sold me even with the furnace!
