Awesome! Is London used for touch & goes for other airlines as well? In other words, is it an airport that a lot of airlines use for this sort of thing?
@walidhassan61 lol no a 777 is classed as 'heavy' go on google and type in 777 vs 737 and you'll laugh lol, the body circumference of the 737 is like 1 of the 777s engines
@ryan1111111555555555 You're right - I searched Google and saw some pics of them two - they really looks like Mother and her littel daughter lol , Thanks for replyin'
For those who don't know the reason for the Touch & Go landings are the fact that if a pilot has not done 3 landings in the past 90 days, they must do 3 landings before picking up passengers. This B777 would not have passengers on board as they would not do this unless they had a severe threat.
@JoshOrionHoward Well..I don't totally agree because the company would make sure that each pilot gets his 3 ldgs within the 90 days - doing touch and goes with an a/c like this and no passengers are too expensive. My guess is that it is a type rating for new pilots.
Hey great video, just wandering, do they not do touch and goes with full flaps? Because I don't think the flaps would be fast enough to retract all the way up to take-off setting, although I don't know the 777 very well. Thanks!
I don't know the 777 at all, so I'm not sure. Based on just looking at it, I'd say they were not using full flaps (I'm assuming they were super light though).... definitely don't know how fast the flaps move.
@pilotphilh I don't know the answer, but thinking of an aborted landing (with passengers) I think it doesn't matter if the flaps are retracted to take off setting.
y do they perform "touch and go's"...?? is it because they come in to land too fast and then decide if they r gonne stop and they just get back in the air??
or they do on purpose......? y would they wanna do it on purpose?
B777's were a new type entering Air Canada's fleet at the time this video was taken. Before any pilots could be certified to fly 300+ passengers on this type, they needed to meet the minimum required takeoffs/landings in this aircraft (in addition to many more hours in the simulator).
so i mean it's useful for the pilots to get used to the new aircraft? like you and i, we try driving a new car couple of blocks to get the feel of it...is that it..?
Probably goes to show that I know heck all about aviation & stuff, but was that not supposed to always have been a dangerous manouvre i.e. to land and take off straight away again without stopping?
No - it's not a dangerous maneuvre. I would say that it is not a *normal* procedure for a plane like that, but when it is empty the speeds are low and the excess power is great, so it is safe. Everything has to be planned, of course...
There was hardly any wind that day. I believe for 705 operations (Canadian airline regulations) you must do 3 takeoffs and landings in the actual airplane if it is a new type. I had to when I started flying the Saab 340. There were no passengers on board - just Air Canada people.
Yeah - I know.... we heard that it was going to happen, but I had never seen this before. As a flight instructor my life practically hinges on touch & go's.... who knew? :)
I imagine that for training purposes, with the aircraft very light (no passengers) and minimal fuel they can maximize their time for approaches, navigation and landings.

is it the same size as the 737 - 800 or is it bigger ? cause it seems heavy as it's made of stone or it's just my imagination ?

Yes, they were doing this on purpose. It would be very rare for an aircraft to to go around after actually touching touch on the runway.
GuyRolsch 1 year ago
@emiratesA380zahed touch and go's are used for training purposes to practice landings and takeoffs quickely without having to come to a complete stop

training for the new pilots or if and emrgency
smashthetrash34 2 years ago
The pilot gets to practice a landing and a takeoff at the same time. That way they dont need to stop and play around when they don't have to.
