  • Mayonnaise.

  • FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kim is yesterday's news --- dirty water under the bridge.

  • Interviewer is a real smug piece of shit. I would have had difficulty resisting the urge to smack him.

  • @inconcordium

The interviewer is Steve Paikin. He's actually quite good, once you see him more on tv.

  • Thanks for posting the interview : )

  • she doesn't live in canada?

    where does she live?

  • @meloveicecream24 california i believe

  • @Cirvantes123 thanks

  • She wasn't elected. She stepped in when mulroney resigned because everyone hated his guts. A better question would be "when will Canada elect A woman as prime minister".

  • Omg finally a person who gets it! Thank You

Kim Cambell was never democrtaically elected, if we keep acting so smug since Cambell was Prime Minister, we will never have more female leaders. If the Americans elect Sarah Palin or any woman, we will fall off our high horse.

Michael Jean and Andrienne Clarkson and Beverly Mclaughlin were never elected to their positions either. We need to start letting Canadians choose their leaders.

  • @gundamWWW all members of parliament are democratically elected by their constituencies. We do not have prime ministerial elections, and you should know that.

Kim Campbell (learn to spell her name right) was selected as intern party leader for the Progressive Conservatives, and thus as the leader of the party controlling most seats in the House of Commons, she became Prime Minister.

The position of Prime Minister does not necessarily have to be elected.

  • @ccheng21

Generally most Canadians are not fully aware that they don't directly vote for their local MP. That point was demonstrated during the 2008 Constitutional crisis.

Many Canadians throught that Stephen Harper was the head of state and he "won" the election.

What you are saying is correct, but what I am saying is that when people cast their vote they are likely to inform their decision based on the leader of the party.

The 1993 election passed judgment on Kim Cambell and she failed.

  • @gundamWWW I'm speaking of legal and constitutional statuses of Members of Parliament and the position of Prime Minister. Interesting that in Canada, to be head of government you don't necessarily have to be elected, just leader of the party controlling most seats in the House of Commons.

  • Also, I heard when someone becomes PM they have to elect only MP's from their party-thats fucked up- and when they try to get a bill passed it has to get unaminous consent from the cabinet, and those who don't agree have to resign or are fired! What the hell! Someone please explain if this is true! If so, the Canadian government is fucked up from an already messed up system!

  • What do you mean "elect only MP's from their party" ?

To get a bill passed, it simply needs a majority vote in the house of commons. Party leaders/MPs often tell their members how to vote. So, its the other way around. If a cabinet member voted against a government bill, its probably them who would be fired.

  • Ok, if Kim Cambell was the first female Prime Minister Of Canada and elections start whenever the Prime Minister wants, then why didn't she wait a few years before calling election.

  • The constitution states that an election must be held every 5-years. When Kim became PM, that time was nearly up.

  • This is the first time I've actually heard Campbell speak before, and I have to say I'm impressed. She comes across as highly articulate and intelligent, and not deserving of the negative reputation that she was left with after her short time in office. I'm impressed.

  • It's a shame what happened to her ... the media played a big role in her fall. With some hope, maybe she will get back into Politics one day ... Harper's time in office is limited ...

  • Kim Campbell is hot. She's a Pmilf. Haha!

  • She really is -- and plus she's just 62, I'd love to see her make a comeback!

    She's such a hottie!

  • Yea, probably someday.

I still remember when she had that summer/fall job as our PM back in 1993.

  • Wow! She's great. When WILL we elect another woman as PM?
