Came at a time when hollywood was making films about street gangs like "boulevard nights", "walk proud", and of course "The Warriors" gang movie was released. It reminds me of the film and everytime I hear this song, I often wondered how cool it would of been to use this song for the opening credits. It kind of has a street gang vibe to it.

I think Crank It Up came out in the early 80's. Peter Brown had the very first GOLD 12" single with "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" in the late 70's.
