Hi Janet, oh how wonderful to see this, I was a drummie for Fairmont High School 1987 - 1989 inclusive. I so wish I had a video of us from those days, something I have always dreamed of having. Such treasured memories :)
We were based in Stellenbosch. To be politically correct we were a previously disadvantaged school and we won Western Province Primary School champs in '92. Beating Goodwood Park, t'was quite an achievement!
I loved the formality, but I think the discipline is much more intense these days!
I sat reading the new rules the other day & wow... all these changes! I will definitely get back to you on the music.. I still have my music from back then and I can see the whole display just by listening to it. It's awesome.
Trust me, when you watch a whole display, you can now use words with lyrics, can lipsing, can change props, and like i said drop your prop on purpose to do a move :)
the rules have changed so much! was a member of Brackenfell High in 1992, Just goes to show, the passion and love of this sport NEVER leaves a person!
Fantastic, where is the squad based???
If you EVER need help with music, I have thousands of songs and I have given a couple of pieces of music Brackenfell coach... The music is a HUGE part of it :)
So glad I met another ex Drummy who loves the sport so much.
I am not a fan of other styles other than the SA version. There is just something about the way we do it here... I don't think anywhere else can even compare. There is a literally a huge difference between a baton and a mace.
He he, Yeah, shame it is a bad one when that happens, know the feeling, I tried to stop it before she dropped it but it wouldnt have seemed right.
She is a friend of mine so I reprimanded her. She has noted it and apologizes :) She did win the leader category though, so it couldnt have been that bad? Were you a drummy?
That's good as long as she wasn't moving when the music stopped,it's fine!
Yes I was a drummie , went to nationals in 1992 in Pretoria, Pieter Langeveldt Primary in Stellenbosch, in High school I was part of a small indoor club... But still follow and love the sport. I am busy setting up my own squad now!

Love the SA style Drummies.

And these says you may drop your props on purpose to do a move and even sing to the music... different from my time.
You go girl, make us proud there! This sport rocks like no other !!

Hey Janet - (Been keeping an eye on all your postings...great videos, thanks!)
You wouldn't happen to have anything from SA nationals 1990/1991 would you?

Hey there
Yeah ours is based on the Military side, and I think the USA is more energetic and vibrant, with dance and such? Both are great though :)
