  • Hey! Great video! I just looked up the knife on 5.11 and supposedly you can adjust the opening and closing tension.

  • At the end you said you sanded it down, perhaps refraining from that, thus leaving the edge of the male part of the ziptie sharp, will increase the chances of it deploying properly?

  • Hi. I tried it on my knife and it works great! But instead of having the block part of the zip tie on top of the blade where you have it. I moved it more to the side of the blade. And now it catches better. It still sticks up above the blade, but now it's just on the side. It also acts like a thumb stud too. I used a black zip tie, so it doesn't look as cheesy. : )

  • Cool vid as always. The best techniques are the simplest techniques. If the blade only half deployed in combat you would be unable to use your muscle memory to recover quickly. Better to be slower but more consistent.

  • small ones and two them work great for mine. Wish i had this to try it on.

  • thats really cool. i would've never thought of that. keep up the good work.

  • works better with more than 1 zip tie.

  • Why don't you try it in the "merlin" holster from CRKT...or try something like the sheath used on a cutters knife and tool Karambit ( it's on U-Tube)...personally I prefer the ergonomics of that knife to the emmerson.

  • I'm not a fan of the merlin, but I don't own one. If I can borrow one I'll do a view of it. I'm not familiar with cutters design, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up. Either way I don't want to use a sheath on my folder to make it open correctly. I think a properly designed knife shouldn't need this. Just my opinion.

  • That's a creative fix for your karambit. That style of knife is very useful in a restaurant of any other job that requires box cutting since the blade can slice the flap off a box in usually one try.

P.S. Wishbone are you left-handed or do you just carry a knife on your left side?

  • I agree! I'm very partial to the hawkbill design for most urban tasks. I am not left handed, however for defense purposes I usually consider most knives as a secondary option. My primary is always on my right and it just seems to work better for me that way. Good catch though. =)

  • great vid as always 5/5 and nice tats

  • thanks!

  • cool, ive tried the that "ghetto wave" on my centofante 3, it worked and all, but honestly it ruined the look of the blade so i end up getting it off

  • hah ghetto wave, perfect name.. =)

  • is the clip reversible on the emerson? it'd be really badass to carry in both pockets and deploy all at once. and yeah, nevermind about the pinky idea, i don't think i'd be able to do it either.

  • Yes, both have reversible clips so you can easily carry them in either side (or both!)

  • that is so awesome. do you practice the ways of the karambit style? i'd like to pick one up and check it out. thanks for being part of the influence.

  • I'm currently looking for a silat or karambit school myself. Unfortunately good teachers of Indonesian and Filipino arts are rare in the US these days.

  • very unforunate to hear. it'd be especially hard to find such classes in my area.

  • Nice demonstration. I have tried the zip tie method on two knives just for fun, but quickly removed it once I made the same conclusion - it's simply not as fast or consistent at the Emerson Wave. Great vid.

  • Thanks man!

  • That Emerson karambit is garbage, its almost completely vertical to the handle, a real karambit is sapose to be at an almost 90 degree angle from the handle. That emerson model is just a hook knife you can't use it like you would a real karambit.

  • Ernest might disagree with you, but I'm sure there is always room for improvement.

  • Thanks for the follow up. The zip tie method definitely works better when you are a righty and the ziptie can catch on the corner of the pocket.

That said, I don't think anyone will claim it's just as good as an Emerson wave. But depending on the blade it can be good enough.

  • Oh yeah, it's definitely cheesy! heh

  • That's the problem, with a karambit it's always facing away from the corner if you're drawing in the common reverse grip. With a standard blade that could face the corner that would definitely work MUCH better for sure.

  • Interesting comparison. Nice detail on the videos again. If I had to choose, I would also go with the Emerson, the deployment is just so much smoother and more reliable.

  • I couldn't agree more! Made it out to this area yet?
