I think Ron was referring to Senna as a comparison and Schumacher was a little ruthless during his early years until he joined ferrari, when he referred to look after yourself. Schumacher became most focused and robotic from 96 onwards, check out interviews before then and say 2000 he is much less open with commenting to press. It's fair to say he did look after himself.

Very interesting insight how the relation between the drivers and managers are. Ron said "look after yourself". Michael was in a class of his own regarding techique, endurance and intelligence after Senna had died and was until he retired in 2006. Incredible!

What I don't like is that he was so aggressive and reckless in his behaviour during the Benetton days. However the Ferrari team learned him to behave himself more.

At the 8 year mark in their careers, Senna had 3 WC and Schui 2. If they'd both ended there, Schui would just be a Fittipaldi or such in the record books!

Then, Schui went to Ferrari, who gave Schui an unprecedented sustained equipment advantage, while Senna went to Williams, who killed him.

Schumacher's "unprecedented sustained equipment advantage" did not arrive out of the blue. Schumacher worked hard to create it. Remember he went without the title for FOUR successive seasons - a strange barren spell for a driver at the peak of his powers. Ferrari didn't have the best car until 2001.

Everytime someone pulls out this romantic mythology crap about Schui reviving Ferrari, I will inform you of facts.

1. Schumi's own brother said in 2007; "The truth is the driver has very little to do with the car's development"

2. It was Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn who revived Ferrari (you know the same guys that made Benetton winners - again with Schui riding their coat-tails).

3. Irvine almost won the WC for Ferrari in 99 (and WOULD have w/o team-orders) BEFORE Schumi ever did.

It's the car that drives itself and then tells the engineers, mechanics and designers what's wrong with it. And YES it was Irvine who almost came close to winning the title in 1997 and 1998.

On the other hand, Senna would have got the bumper Ferrari contract for 1996 if he had lived and possibly gone on to win the title for Ferrari. But that would have had nothing to do with Senna's driving. How silly of me!

how did team orders prevent irvine the title. maybe if you look back in the beginning of the season but i think schumacher thoroughly out paced irvine before and after his accident

And anyway - Irvine "won" the 99 world championship at Ferrari (at least would have had he not lost points due to the team orders which Schui also needed as well as the best car to win his 5 titles with them.)

And Irvine did it first - before Schui (and they joined the team at the same time) so its more logical to say that Irvine revived Ferrari.
