  • Nice demonstration. I love the old iron, but do have to point out that you lifted the D5K off the ground a bit when you hit the blade of the D4. I watch guys do blade-blade occasionally, and the fella who gets under and pins his tracks down almost always wins!

  • Good video Charlie I've been wanting to find myself an old straight drive dozer like that I almost got myself a late seventies Cat 941 track loader a few years ago but it was a powershift. But I'd still rather have a blade cat like your D4.

  • old iron allways!

  • Cool vid. Good to see you posting again.

  • New isn't always better!

  • @mctim64 I do have to be honest! The brute force isn't there but, The D5 is a dream to operate and fine grades very nicely.

  • Love It !!!!!!! Just proves that a $15,000 machine will make more profit. And, easier/cheaper to maintain. Oil clutch/straight drive machines put the power to the ground, with out sucking your wallet down the fuel tank. My 1959 D6-9U burns 3.7 gals. of fuel per hour with the ears pulled back and the gov. opened up. Put those dozers blade to blade with an operator on each one. The video will increase the value of your D4.

  • @1950F8 $15,000...that sure does seem to be where the value has stayed on these tractors for years? Even when the economy is up or down.

  • Great video and comparison!

  • @cat325ccr Thanks!!! :)

  • hydro-stat transmission cant withstand a clutch.

  • @casefan14 Actually it is the "NEW" Diesel Electric drive with Electric over hydraulic controlls. It grades very well!

  • ur new dozer?

  • Nice vid Charlie!! Im not sure what this proves though...beside that you were bored as hell, lol. Love the sound of that D4D though!! Old school diesels, cant beat them!

  • @Xx69roadrunnerxX Thanks! I'm not sure what it proves either? Other than my old D4 can pussh the new D5 around. But the D5 can't push the D4....If the tracks are locked that is. it will just roll the engine over backwards if not.

  • @copperheadmarine I liked it Charlie!! I would think forcing the D4's engine to roll over backwars would be extremely bad for it no?? That says catastrophic failure to me..

So is that new D5K yours man??

  • @Xx69roadrunnerxX The negatives of forcing the engine backwards......Oil pump sucks the oil off the bearings and all the galleys and you could suck carbon deposits from the exhaust into the chambers. Other than that, nothing. Most older cats will run backwards, but like I said no oil so a very short run is it. But its not like I would run one backwards on purpse?

  • @copperheadmarine Thanks for the info!

  • i think a pull off would be a better test. it is very hard to push blade to blade and not have one clime or taking weght off of the one and transfering to the othere one.

  • @mog5858 Hard to do a pull off by your self. I have a piece of 1" wire rope in the form of a choker.....if the pull of doesnt rip the draw bar off the D5K? It looks kind of light duty?

  • Hey man.....I wanna fly......

  • Take care to your D4!

  • awesome, pure awesome old but still has HorsePOWER!!

  • @Madill044LogGrappler Yeah! The rest of the dust was on me as you can see! LOL. I had been pushing out a burn pile.

  • HAHA quit screwing around and get ur ass back to work! I'd still take the D5k!!! wait there's no cab on it either... shit I'll keep my komatsu!

  • damn right.

  • Nice

  • lol.....new computer bullshit......lol

  • buying a new dozer?

  • whehe smoke:D
