Aren't Irish, Italians, and Jews considered White and virtually indistiguishable from Anglo-Saxons? Maybe that has something to do with it. Preference based on race and gender may be wrong as well as quotas, but some metrics such as economic disadvantage should be taken into account. I don't know about you guys but in my American History class we learned about the discrimination that the Irish, Italians, Chinese and Jewish immigrants experienced by the white majority. Whites were ALWAYS scared that immigrants would take all the jobs and ere always discriminated against them until the mixture of cultures reached an equilibrium. It was created to level the achievement gap between minorities, poor whites, and women, and their more affluent white male counterparts. The achievement gap that is caused by the inequality in K-12 education. It has nothing to do with laziness, much rather it plays as a tool for creating an equilibrium for all people.

@jamiebarefeet As far as jobs go, for you to have posted this only a year ago you must have had tunnel vision because job availability across the nation has been low for a few years now. For Detroit, jobs availability had been steadily declining for at least 3 1/2 years now and seniority rights have been trampled over.That being said older people with experience unfortunately had to take entry-level jobs to stay afloat, leaving youth fresh out of high school with little to nothing.

Michigan could be seen as a Liberal state.. I live here and see that there are a lot of jobs that are held by the black community. I see one of the biggest is Hospitals. and NO it's not a janitorial job! They are holding high paying jobs and are taken care of in their fields. IF anything it may be a bit reversed in some areas. Some are hired do to skin color not education levels..

Funny how AA Supporters say it is not a quota system. Odd, because how do you measure an AA program? Well, there has to be a ratio of color/sex X to color/sex Y, right?
