He is truly is a good singer. He uses auto-tune just as other artists do in the industry (Miley Cyrus, Kesha, Britney Spears, Beyonce, etc.) He just auto-tunes over the orginal material multiple times to give it the robot-sounding effect, while most artist only do it once.

T-Pain sounding like that is because he was hitting most of his vocals off note, the auto-tune doesn't work if your vocals are on note.
