I remember being in this storm in miami. and after the hurricane passed by, i thought 'whew, thank god its over. now katrina will weaken and no other part of america will be hit! ......right?"
If there are such thing as an animal chased by a dog but used in hurricane systems (solve this to get the word) 10, it may be this one (2005), Charley (2004) and Camille (1969) and Beta (2005, well no episodes, just a storm, guessing).
During this hurricane I did the stupidest thing ever.
Inside my house, a couple of hours after the hurricane arrived.
it was vary quite so i thought that the hurricane already passed. Then I opened the front door to my house. Well anybody can guess what happened after that.
@RCT3ClubPenguin I didn't go outside I opened my front door and the wind pushed me back a couple of feet. After that I used most of my strength to close the door. My house was almost filled with water after that.
it tough since andrew the people in miami had to relieve this again in 2005 but Katrina was more stronger. this is strange this happen the day after of annivesarty when andrew hit on aug 24 and 13 years day after this happens. this is why i never want to live in the east coast even in Miami. Miami beautitful yes but its like a target zone for hurricanes.
Where I was in Florida it knocked out over a month of power. People cannot comprehend how destructive this storm was. People hear "Katrina" and think "oh poor New Orleans" But truth be told Florida got hit far worse since we had 4 hurricanes total just as powerful over a months time while LA got 1. Did Florida get any coverage? No. Just New Orleans. It pisses me off that people still fawn over New Orleans yet 90% of the destruction was in the state of Florida.
I remember this storm in Boca. We got sustained winds of 50-60 mph with gusts to probably near 70. Strong, but not strong enough to knock our power out. I was watching TV and I heard the howling noise outside.
this storm was weak in fl...we had a fuckin keg party in homestead...but then really hurt new orleans ..how sad. i had no idea the storm wold build back like that in 1 or 2 days
I remember this. There were like two other hurricanes that season. Katrina wasn't the worse, though. Wilma was pretty bad. We didn't have school for weeks because of her...
excellent...i was actually workin in miss saigon in pine crest...and we had to leave the resteraunt as we got flooded...and i eventually drove home too....wow...
I remember the 2005 hurricane season. I was here in Miami, FL and it was sick. We got hit by Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. After the hurricane the roads were full of threes knocked down and some where huge. We put shutters up and we could feel all the wind passing by and pushing on our door. But we didn't see any transformers exploding. We were without power for a long time, and when we final found a Publix with power and got food, the power came back.
Man, I really wish I could have seen one of those transformers explode.
All we got was a turned down tree in the backyard. Funny how we seriously didn't hear a giant oak tree fall onto a fence when we were sleeping. I guess the wind droned it out. But yeah, hurricane are always so exciting, but terrifying at the same time.
look at that,I can not belive this, I was there, at sleepless night,I think all abaut my life. But I went to there next year same season. That was greet and amazing vacation. Arif Koknar
Hi Kelly - This video was shot from The Residences at Merrick Park. The view at the beginning of the clip is looking north to northeast from the intersection of Salzedo St. and Altara Ave. The latter part of the clip (after the eye) is looking more easterly across Salzedo St. towards the east tower of the Residences.
I remeber that. It was some nasty ass hurrican. So was Wilma. Yeah i video taped Wilma but i cant find the tape. <.<;. But those were some nasty storms. the good part there was like no school for about 2 weeks :D! it was crazy awesome, the sky was green and purple. I loved it :)
freaky and scary...esp when I was flying into Miami through her outer bands.
My parents didnt take her seriously til after they go tme from the airport...luckly they had storm shutters so after we got to their house my dad and brothers were able to lock everything down.
The simple Truth is, the American public is a deliberately dumbed-down population, who, by their actions, indicate they do not deserve to live in freedom. They are "easy pickins" for the intimidators of a growing Police State.
I Come From The UK! Nd I Feel Sorry For Da Hurricane Hit Places Lol! Yeeh ! I Can't Belive dis Footage Lol Don't Look Real Or Sound Real.. But It Is!!
And this isn't even where Katrina hit the hardest. Damn, if global warming IS causing there to be more hurricanes we have to stop driving our cars today !
According to what I've heard and seen from official reports; most of the Miami metro area only recieved 65-75mph winds from Katrina (69mph sustained at the airport) with gusts in the 80-95mph range. Either way though...cool video with some nice transformer pops captured.
Thanks! Glad you liked the video. While you are correct that the highest officially recorded winds were 73mph gusting to 93mph at RSMAS on Virginia Key (about 2 miles ENE of my location), given that the peak winds you see in this clip are being funneled between two large buildings, this amplification on top of the ambient winds is what produced the 5-15mph increase, yielding peak gusts of about 100-105mph.
I live near Xenia, Ohio... a city which has become the tornado magnet for the Dayton area. In April 1974, the town was smacked with an F5 monster. It began as two small tornados that combined into one biggie. Thankfully, only 30+ lives were lost... I'm surprised that it hasn't been posted, yet. A photo of the beginning stages exists though:

@Mikelovesamanda1 Lightning doesnt usually happen in hurricanes because tropical cyclones are warm-cored systems
