yeah it's funny to make those comparisons. cant get over how cute Jim is btw. and I totally get Alex's little 'mistakes' cause they happen to me as well (the little 'oder' for example hehe). very good job guys!!!
Actually neither ',' nor '.' is global standard (e.g. in science) as delimiter after every third digit.
Instead you should use a small whitespace (about 1/3 to 1/2 of the length of a regular whitespace) or, if you really need a character, use the '-char.
So you can use '.' and/or ',' as delimiter for the decimal part, just as you like it.
I understand that the US dates are totally screwed up. Actually, the best way should be YYYY/MM/DD. It's much easier to file from large to small. (Like nesting on a website). The Japanese, Korean, and Chinese have got that one right. But the Euro money thing is totally illogical. Mathematically and universally, something after a decimal is the tenths (1/10), hundredths (1/100), etc of 1.0. Why would you put a comma instead? The US visual aid is also logical as it acts like a "breathing space."
@caohanlu What's illogical about using a comma instead of a dot? It's the same logic but just with switched separators. So why is it all of the sudden illogical? Btw. Commas also provide "breathing space".
@TheLotRatF Do people really use 3,14159 instead of 3.14159...? As I've stated before, money = math. And in math, everyone uses decimals to separate tenths (dimes - or whatever they call it in Germany), hundredths (cents), etc. No elementary student writes 1/4 = 0,25. And yes: as I've also stated below, commas do provide breathing space. Thanks for reinforcing that.
@caohanlu Yes, everytime an American uses a dot in math as separator, we use the comma. German elementary students write 1/4 = 0,25. It's exactly the same thing as in the US, just with switched separators ;-)
@caohanlu Now you are confusing grammar with math (maybe a visit in elementary school wouldn't hurt you). Outside of math periods and commas have the same purpose in Germany as in th US.
I still don't understand your problem with that. Americans mix up a lot of things (temperature in Fahrenheit, distances in inches, foot and miles, weight in ounces and pounds) and I don't complain. But if another country switches separators in math...that's too much! That's illogical!
@TheLotRatF I'm clearly not defending the US's measurement systems. Why so defensive? I was just merely joking about the fact that if they switch commas and period for numbers, they should do that for the whole package. And as you can tell from my previous comments, I can write no worse than you can. So if I were to visit an elementary school, why don't you come along with me? ^ ^
I remember that when I first learned to write dates in 1st grade I was very confused because the month came before the day. It didn't make sense to me becauseIi figured it should go smallest to biggest time measurement. Th day/month/year way makes much more sense in my opinion.
@75426168 haha yeah it kind of is, I wish that we would use the same measurements etc. that the rest of the world uses so there would be no confusion.
my 7's look like the german 7s, and my 1s look like the german 1's but with a little horizontal dash on the bottom. and i use /'s for dates like 1/22/12 :)
To throw it in the mix, British use a mix of the both haha i.e German day, month, year but the dots, dashes etc also different! Got excited thinking this was a new video aw daaamn
@SoccerUpdater day month year, you start with the smallest. makes sence, doesn't it? i mean, first the month? middle-smallest-highest??? thats what i would call a WTF moment!
@sugarwarlock When the price is listed on an item here in southern Germany, such as on a restaurant menu, it very common for it to be listed as €7,00. So....your mileage may vary ;-)
@sugarwarlock look at Otto.de they have their items priced with the € before the number. I looked at the daily lunch menu (on a blackboard written with chalk) yesterday at one of our local restaurants. It appeared that two different people had written items on it, some prices had it before and others had it after. It is interesting how things change over time....
@Charization haha I know I ask myself that a lot too. It looks weird written out but we when we talk we say "its January 22nd", so maybe that is why we write it like that? lol I really don't know

@TheLotRatF That's interesting,
Maybe they should switch periods and commas in a sentence too. then everything would make sense, Or maybe they already do that, (!?)

Oh, I remember all the confusion I caused in my maths class in the U.S.^^ I learned the different numbers pretty quickly though.
The 12 am/12 pm rule makes absolutely no sense to me. I learned it the other way around and that seems much more logical to me.
