She sounds fine singing in this style and because she does that it indicates how good she really is , yes she could do so many things with this kind of voice and you can hear that clearly. The voice is smooth and under terrific control.
Excellent! No it's not Peking opera style, if you know what real Peking opera sounds like. It is a form of the traditional Western classical style which evolved in China to take on certain Eastern characteristics, which may give one the impression of being thin if you are used to hearing someone like Tebaldi or whatever. But it is extremely beautiful, and not thin at all, very fine singing. My grandmother was trained in this technique and it is instantly recognizable. Beautiful.
@GermanOperaSinger I actually prefer this to the "thicker" traditional Western classical style - I feel this singing technique suits the style, period and character of the song better.
I've always loved this song when I heard it on the radio as a child. I can appreciate the lyrics as a grown-up. Thank you for your explanation. I can appreciate it more after reading your comment. I'm not a critic, but I think this lady sings it really well, too.

Wu Bi Sha sings it like Bejin drama or Kwinchu. She seesm to put a lot of effort to make her voice thin and piercing rather than rich and round. She should be accompanied by Chinese huchin rather than a piano.
who is she? If she is a student in a music department of a univ, I'd question her teachers' qualification.
she purposely used peking opera technique to convey this song in this way. she is more than capable of delivering traditional operatic songs in a very beautiful way. if you've heard her other renditions of other songs, you'll know what i mean. particularly nightinggale song. very beautiful.
She is a celebrated traditional Chinese and western classical singer. She won mutliple international prices, including Tchaikovsky singing competition 2nd prize.
Best known for singing Romance of the Red Chamber theme songs, and fusion of Chinese and western music.
This particular recording is probably not her best, but has her own charm.
