Thanks for the tip! Zuchinni and Pumpkin flowers are delicious. Coat them in beaten egg and then bread with white soda cracker crumbs then fry in butter! MMMMMMM !!
This video is impressive! This guys is absolutely right in what he is talking about! For those gardeners and hobbyst, this is wonderful advice! I applied it and in 2 weeks I have an awesome crop, considering before that it was on and off, like the guy describes in his video. Many thanks, chap!
@thegardenguru1 thanks for the short and informative video. Thanks for responding to questions too! I'll be watching more of your vids. Happy planting!
My question is: I currently show only the "male" flowers. This morning, I tried to pollinate, but I didn't find the "female" flower. Will they be able to grow soon or how long will I have to wait until I find the "female" flowers?
And don't forget! Those flowers that you're picking off? They're GREAT to eat. Dip in egg batter and fry in olive oil - or - pick fresh tiny zucchinis and mince well, add bread crumbs, grated parmesan, egg and parsley salt and pepper - pinenuts too if you like them. Stuff the flower heads (do not cut out the stamen), fold leaves together and secure with a toothpick and fry in oil. All I can say is WOW what a delight!
My mate is about to start her garden, and we are both eager....problem is, we can't find ANYWHERE suggestions on : full sunlight, or partial sunlight, hour specification (6+etc). Could anyone suggest or knows which it is, so that we can help our zucchini be as happy as possible. Thanks!
The flower is so similar to that of the pumpkin. If zuchini is planted close to pumpkin (cucumbers and melons), will there ever be the risk of cross pollination? Also, what are good companion plants for zuchini?

Hello, I'm really glad I found your videos and I have a few questions for you, if that's alright! Are you saying we need to pollinate the flowers ourselves every day? Or just look for male and female flowers every day? Would one need to chop off a different male flower each time? Could we use the same male flower for the next zucchini plant down the row? I'm pretty new to gardening and totally new to pollinating, so any advice would be grand. Thank you!
@cosmenherst Yes, looking fro male and female flowers and pollinating daily with ensure maximum return. You can use one male flower on several female flowers. All the best!
Right now i have a pretty big zucchini but i want to leave it on the plan so i can save it for seed next year. Do i leave them attach to the plan or cut them?
@ferrari4sale Yes, leave that one on the plant until it's fully matured and ready to harvest the seed... you'll see the the short stem at the base of the fruit where it joins the plant start to dry and lose colour. Then it's just a matter of harvesting, scooping out the seeds, washing them then letting them dry completely before storing. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
@thegardenguru1 Thanks for the reply. I planted total four plants this summer but the other three plans grow so slow except for the one i mention above which only bear one zucchini. So i think because of the seeds that i bought from Home Depot were not good.
@thegardenguru1 hi my friend, i am a first timer as well, just want to ask u why am i loosing the flowers of my zuccini plant? all the flowers are dropping and cant see any zuccinis, thanks
What a brilliant video! The flowers have been falling off of my plants and I wasn't sure what to do - will be out pollinating in the morning. Thanks for such a useful film :-)
Man you...Rock! My garden is doing fabulous now! although I have some leaves that are so huge the starting to effect sunlight to my other happy veggies, is there a proper way to cut the leaves ? I really dont want to hurt my babies! but still keep the other veggies happy.. thanks from a beginner gardener!
Hi, It's my first time growing veg and I've planed the courgettes too close to the tomato plants, so the giant courgette leaves are shadowing the tomatoes. Is it safe to cut off some of these leaves, or will it effect crop?
Ok thank you for the info... i was getting a little worried about it. But yes they are still young plants soo i cant wait for the female flowers to pop up! thanks again for putting my worries to rest!
Hi im growing scallop squash and im having a hard time figuring out which is male and female. Will there be a small fruit growing on the female flower just like your zucchinis or not. I might have all male flowers and that bothers me a little bit. If you are growing scallop squash i would really love to see the female and male flowers distinguished in a video! Thank you!
@Catorifrejah It can be common to have a lot of male flowers at one time with very few female, especially when plants are young. be patient, the females will come in time.
No, if you are getting plenty of fruit forming without having to physically pollinate the flowers yourself, it means that you have plenty of bees about and they are doing it for you as nature intended. All the best!
@woodlandcammo27 zucchini and watermelon are ok next to each other b/c zucchini is squash and watermelon is melon. However, cucumbers do cross with watermelon, since cukes are technically melons. So as long as you leave enough room that the watermelon vines don't choke out your zucchini (or bury it so you can't get to it lol), you shouldn't have to worry... not about cross-pollination anyway :)
Good question. It can matter in the plant world... for example, some fruits return higher yields when cross-pollinated by a different variety of the same type of fruit, but in the case of the zucchini/courgette it doesn't matter
Would it be more beneficial if you used the pollen from another zucchini plant and not the same plant or does that not really matter in the plant world?
@ANDYTHEFISH I've heard of using q-tips... I tried it in my ag class (for college) but it didn't seem to work too well :-/ might have to try the paint brush (I'm thinking the hair would work better than the cotton)
I never grew zucchinis before, but I'm going to try it this spring. I have read about them, and showing how to hand pollinate will be very useful. I can't wait to try this, it's going to be fun. Thank you for your help.
i wondered why my courgettes went like this last year...well know i know...thanks to you :)

I use a paint brush to polinate the flowers as this does on damage to the plant and you can use the same flowers again.
