Because the U.S. military is already 50x more powerful than any military on the planet. A little downsizing to save some money would make it what...43x more powerful? Defenseless...ha, what a joke.
You really think the US military is 50x more powerful than Russia's or China's??? A lot of the money that goes into the military goes towards R&D. The technology the US enjoys today came at a huge financial cost yesterday. If you still want to have an advantage over your adversary you have to put the money into it.
Yes I do. All China has going for it are numbers of soldiers they can field, and Russia doesn't even have that. They both have some relatively advanced stuff in development, but by and large they use old worthless crap leftover from the cold war that is a joke compared to F22's, F35's, Apaches, Abrams, etc. No military has or will have in the forseeable future a military with the power-projection capability of the U.S. We have 11 carriers, Russia has 1, China has 0.
Our military budget is a HALF-TRILLION DOLLARS. China's is 50 billion. Cutting our spending a bit in certain areas will slow down development in some new technologies, but slow is a very relative term, we'll still be advancing WAY WAY WAY ahead of any of the nations we can imagine warring against.
Your comment is a joke. A military that that is 50X more powerful than Russia or China doesn't exist here on this planet, and never will. Get real man!
China barely has the capability to invade Taiwan, an island just off their coast. And I'd like to see Russia try and invade a country that doesn't boarder them. Both of their navies are a joke compared to the U.S., the air forces are just as lackluster. The few bleeding edge weapon systems they do have, they don't have the money to implement in large numbers like the U.S. does.
You live in a fantasy world. The truth of the matter is that the US military struggles hard just to control a small country like Iraq, or Afghanistan, and you think it can effectively tackle another major/super power? Russia, and China are poised for self defense, and therefore, don't need a $500 billion dollar "defense" budget to project power on a global scale. You don't need a large navy or air force when you have weapon systems optimized to counter an aggressor, and destroy their forces.

You can't just post some bs to put down a man like clark his a 4star general he fought for his country and took bullets during the vietnam war for his country... Clark is a true American Patriot it just shows how pathetic some people are... Battle of Tours you no longer need to speak... my great grandpa fought in the partizans like did majority of Kosovars, For helping yugoslavia kosovo was to be given to the Kosovars instead they the serbs back stabbed the kosovars... God brought justice for KS
Wesley Clark is a great man!!!! A 4 star general, first in his class at West Point,a Rhoads Sholar. A presidential medal winner, the prestigous Bronze star, the purple heart, many more elite militray medals. Had the southern command, supreme allied commander of europe, streets with his name in Alabama and Kosvo. Plus he freed Kosvo from a dangerous dictator and murder. This man did his job and is a hero.
He is a hero not only in America but for all the Albanian people, he freed Albanians in Kosovo from the Serbian regime, Kosovars will never forget... may god bless Wes. He is a fine human being a great true leader who really does care for freedom...
Oh, you mean the same "Kosovars" who killed 700,000 Serbs and 200 Jews for Hitler in World War II. Again, Wes Clark is a consort to George Soros, who as a teenager, helped Nazis confiscate property from condemned Jews, while thousands and thousands of American teenagers lied about their age to go and fight Hitler.
I'd like to know if anyone else has heard about this: is Clinton thinking about Clark as her running mate? I talked to some people who were friends with Bill Richardson, and they said Clinton is either thinking about Richardson or Clark for her running mate. Has anyone else heard this? Richardson would be a much better choice. Psycotic bitch Clinton needs a Moderate.
Seriously, when will the Hillary Clinton Democrap sleaze machine be stopped?
NEW YORK - -- The U.S. attorney here on Thursday charged enigmatic Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu with masterminding a massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors from New York to California out of more than $60 million, while pressing many to make campaign contributions to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton after Hsu's confession to the FBI.
Thank goodness that Karl Rove is now free to destroy the LIBERAL PROGRESSIVE COMMUNIST agenda being bought and paid for by the horrible George Soros, who worked for Nazis during WWI confiscating property from condemned Jews, according to Martin Peretz in National Review. You tried to jail Rove, but, you didnt get it done. You guys are finished.
That's funny because when a liberal was actually president the country was in a 20 million dollar surplus while we were fighting in the Balkan Peninsula, and last time a liberal was a president, he might have had a blow job in the office, but he didn't leave the office, when there was a major disaster. You know what else is funny, when a Republicans neo-Nazi bastard ran for president, he has put our country into a 2 trillion dollars debt JUST for the top Communist country in the world.
It should be noted that President Bush did notify Congressional leaders of his decision to authorize warrantless wiretapping at the time of the decision. However, none was totally informed, nor were they allowed to take notes or confer with others to assess the possible ramifications of this program.
In response to this decision, on September 20, 2006, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as both committees approved H.R. 5825, the "Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act." According to the ACLU, that bill, authored by Representative Heather Wilson (R-NM) would give the president unprecedented power and authorize the warrantless surveillance program conducted by the National Security Agency...
Implicit in the term 'national defense' is the notion of defending those values and ideas which set this Nation apart...It would indeed be ironic if, in the name of national defense, we would sanction the subversion of...those liberties...which makes the defense of the Nation worthwhile. Id. at 264.
It was the first ruling by a federal court to strike down the controversial National Security Agency surveillance program. In the judge's ruling, Judge Taylor dismissed the government's argument that the president "has been granted the inherent power to violate not only the laws of the Congress but the First and Fourth Amendments of the Constitution, itself." In the conclusion of the ruling, Justice Warren was quoted from the case U.S. v. Robel, 389 U.S. 258 (1967) where he wrote:
...the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without legal basis, constituting a felony and as such an impeachable offense.
On August 17, 2006, the case, ACLU v. NSA, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan ruled that the Bush administration's program to monitor the phone calls and e-mails of Americans without warrants was unconstitutional and must be stopped.
The Senate Committee voted along party lines, and decided a detailed investigation into the matter was unwarranted. Former House member Elizabeth Holtzman (who played a key role in House impeachment proceedings against President Richard Nixon), John Dean (former counsel to the president) and Jennifer van Bergen from FindLaw assert that by authorizing warrantless domestic wiretapping, President Bush violated
I wonder if those felony charges will stick on Al Gore. Thats a lot of pills. A couple hundred, at least. Im sure hes pushing them. At least, as an environmentalist, he was driving a enviro friendly car. I wonder if he will run for President.
Al Gore was officially charged with felony drug-possession related to his arrest on July 4th. Al reportedly had 140 Vicodin pills and dozens of other prescription drugs with him. Al was arrested for driving around 100mph in a ecologically conscious Toyota Prius outside of Los Angeles. When police searched his car they found weed, Vicodin, Xanax, Valium, Soma and Adderall.
mandating that the President "shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed" and vesting Congress with the sole authority "To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces" and "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof."...
I read up on this and its all true. Weas Clark almost got us into another World War with the Russians in the Balkans. If he had not been forced out by the British he would have certainly had done just that - starting a war with the former Soviet Union. If it werent for Soros PR campaign, he would disappear. Interesting that hes from Arkansas just like teenage sexual harrasser Bill Clinton
In addition, the American Bar Association, in February 13, 2006, issued a statement denouncing the warrantless domestic surveillance program, accusing the President of exceeding his powers under the Constitution. Their analysis opines that the key arguments advanced by the Bush administration are not compatible with the law.
"The American Bar Association" ???? ............ Lawyers...bwahahahahahaha....What have lawyers done for us lately? bwahahahahahaha
hahahaha...lawyers......bahahahahaha....Wasnt Clinton a lawyer when he was sexually harassing Interns??.......please...bwahahaha.....stop it....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....Wasnt Clinton Disbarred???....Stop it with the lawyers....!hahahaha
Aside from these organisations, others (i.e. John Conyers, John Dean, Elizabeth Holtzman, and Jennifer van Bergen) have stated that the Bush administration's justification of the program, using its interpretation of presidential power, overthrows the Constitutional system of checks and balances and ignores other provisions of the Constitution...
Yes, these liberal losers are completely independent, arent they? What a joke! John Conyers barely has a brain. John Deans wife was a New Orleans hooker. Holtzman is ACLU and hated Republicans he whole life. And Jennier VanBergen is a Times Square whore. Cant you do any better than these losers?
Youre retorts are as weird as you are, Gayzone. Noone under the age of 30 ever knows what youre talking about, lameO. Why do you support George Soros, who was known to be a member of Hitler Youth?
In January 2006, the Congressional Research Service released two legal analyses concluding that:
...no court has held squarely that the Constitution disables the Congress from endeavoring to set limits on that power. To the contrary, the Supreme Court has stated that Congress does indeed have power to regulate domestic surveillance... the NSA surveillance program... would appear to be inconsistent with the law.

How odd. US Teenagers all over the world were fighting and dying in military service against fascist government in Germany and Japan during World War II. Even in Europe, there were teenage boys and girls helping defeat the Germans through resistance and many died in the process. Yet teenage George Soros as a teenage young man went and hid within the bosom of his Nazi leaders throughout the war. And he doesnt have one shred of dismay or guilt over this? WHO died so he could live? Millions?
During the Nazi occupation, with German and Hungarian fascists rounding up some 300 000 Jews, young Soros posed as the Christian godson of an Hungarian official responsible for expropriating Jewish property. The 14-year old George sometimes accompanied his supposed godfather, helping to identify and expropriate the property of wealthy fellow Jews. So far from being a "Holocaust Survivor," George Soros was instead a Nazi collaborator.
In a CBS TV interview with Steve Kroft on April 14, 1993, the day before Soros once again did not pay any taxes, Soros made the startling admission: "I actually went with him, and we took decisions on these large estates. That was my identity. So it's a strange, very strange, life." To this day, Soros recalls those as "the happiest years of my life."
Clark has the most comprehensive understanding of and experience with intl diplomacy and military capabilities of any potential presidential candidate. He addresses these complex issues from personal experience, both as a military commander and an expert negotiator. From the start he has articulated specific policies that can mitigate the damage caused to our country's policy blunders that have weakened our military, diverted $500+ billion, and lost our moral and economic standing.
The important Democrats eager to run retired Gen. Wesley Clark for president might exercise due diligence about a military career that was nearly terminated before he got his fourth star and then came to a premature end. The trouble with the general is pointed out by a bizarre incident in Bosnia nearly a decade ago. Clark was a three-star (lieutenant general) who directed strategic plans and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington.
charlesmartel, i think you need to get an education before running your mouth. please give us some evidence of Clarkes planning to attack the russians. clarke is a highly decorated soldier with years of military experience, whats your qualification, and being a war mongering neocon is not one.
TLOG...again, they call it a backbone and moral courage. If we could find a Senior Officer or NCO with brass ones like Wes...we might be finding some middle ground leadership instead of being torn between old (the beatings will continue until morale improves) Army and the new (I will go to the IG) Army!!!
to matt and pruf: let me know when you swear an oath, wear a uniform and have an MOS. your knowledge of military requirements/operations would fill a thimble with plenty of room left over. pffft.
Nice assumption again CRAPLOG...12+ years service and under oath 8 AD and 4+ DAC...even in this post cold war state...you can't say we are doing thing the smart way, let alone efficiently.
Charless, Wes didn't get fired he got urged to retire early because being the subject matter expert he respectfully, but vehemently disagreed with his deskside CJCS, it is called a backbone. Probably would have been a mistake at the airfield, but nothing worse than the battle we are going back into!!!
/yawn@ Toliet..U think you are an authority because u signed a contract and gave up constitutional rights to go under the UCMJ? And for the record u pogue I served 3 years as an 11B in a line unit for 1/24 INF and 2 years as an DI in SC so save me your posturing about being some higher authority because u put on some BDU's
Unbelievable that BIG OIL interests were elected to control of the White House and we are now just starting to diversify our energy needs away from Islamic Theocratic governments propped up just for their cheep oil.
It is not a war for oil, Germany had the fuel by hydrogenation reactions vehicles deployed in WW2.
You may not like it, but Islamic Theocratic governments is not likely in any western country or North America, As an interim arrangement vote for RON Paul. But for sure you will have to reverse the effects of Iraq war before that. Too hard right? Than stay with Bush legacy for next 10 to 15 Years, Little bit to do away with personal freedom and over streached wars is not a big price,I guess.
Toiletlog, pretty good description of yourself...since when are Rhodes Scholars are not weak minded.
Let me remind you that the military drawdown executed by PRESIDENT Clinton was a continuance of President HW Bush's plan. It was also necessary because the push to end the cold war had inflated the military and the military industrial complex to unsustainable levels.
Tolietlog is full of shit..I wouldn't defend ol Willy at all just because I'm some striving wonk..but military spending did not go down by the US under Clinton...Closing of bases is part of what was called the "Peace Dividend" after the end of the Cold War Era..Gutted?! what a highly uneducated response about military spending that had nothing to do with the actual military and everything to do with a personal ideology of politics..
what a disgrace to the uniform. bill clinton loved this guy, what's that tell you? clinton also gutted the U.S. military and closed many bases. our troops are pulling much longer tours now because of guys like clarke and clinton. he's a ring tapper who doesn't understand what armies do. if you are so weak mentally that you talk yourself into scenarios, you are unfit for command. at least he's out, so he can't do any more damage to the Army. pathetic.
Sadam is stuck like an adams apple, America will choke on it till Neocons are in there.
IMPEACH Bush,Dick & Rumsfield, send rice to Russia on training with putan to keep poker face and don't grin chin to chin when requisition for American flags comes in for wrapping.
General Wes says: "I'm tellin you: China has a LOT of people. "And I don't wanna go there." Great and so alive talk by General Wes. Full of vim and vigor. And some smiles.
Great. The former Nato commander who executed Clinton's destroy Bosnia and spare the Muslim plan must surely know something about 21st century warfare. He and his ilk have been declaring defeat for the last two years.
Well my guess is he knows a little more about wars than simply how to start them (unlike the current administration). He and his ilk may have been "declaring defeat" (which is a quite dubious claim), but remember who led us to defeat and not who simply pointed it out.
The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders...tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.
Has this quote ever been more pertinent? I saw the movie "V for Vendetta" and I thought it was kind of funny the methods used for power in that movie and our current situation.
he lost me when he said " more people to Iraq" ...

A presidential medal winner, the prestigous Bronze star, the purple heart, many more elite militray medals.

Some civil liberties groups opposed the bill commenting that the new bill gives the president tacit approval to ignore the Constitution....
grazon 4 years ago
In response to this decision, on September 20, 2006, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as both committees approved H.R. 5825, the "Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act." According to the ACLU, that bill, authored by Representative Heather Wilson (R-NM) would give the president unprecedented power and authorize the warrantless surveillance program conducted by the National Security Agency...

Al Gore was officially charged with felony drug-possession related to his arrest on July 4th. Al reportedly had 140 Vicodin pills and dozens of other prescription drugs with him. In addition, the American Bar Association, in February 13, 2006, issued a statement denouncing the warrantless domestic surveillance program, accusing the President of exceeding his powers under the Constitution.

In January 2006, the Congressional Research Service released two legal analyses concluding that:

BattleofTours732 4 years ago
In a CBS TV interview with Steve Kroft on April 14, 1993, the day before Soros once again did not pay any taxes, Soros made the startling admission: "I actually went with him, and we took decisions on these large estates. That was my identity. So it's a strange, very strange, life." To this day, Soros recalls those as "the happiest years of my life."

Clark has the most comprehensive understanding of and experience with intl diplomacy and military capabilities of any potential presidential candidate. He addresses these complex issues from personal experience, both as a military commander and an expert negotiator. From the start he has articulated specific policies that can mitigate the damage caused to our country's policy blunders that have weakened our military, diverted $500+ billion, and lost our moral and economic standing.
kenmkap 4 years ago
The important Democrats eager to run retired Gen. Wesley Clark for president might exercise due diligence about a military career that was nearly terminated before he got his fourth star and then came to a premature end. The trouble with the general is pointed out by a bizarre incident in Bosnia nearly a decade ago. Clark was a three-star (lieutenant general) who directed strategic plans and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington.
