  • You keep saying its really cool, how cool is it. How many om's do you say a day.

  • Peltier sucks juice like no tomorrow, and you still need to cool one side of the element.

I'm thinking waterloop and cooling the reservoir.

  • Drop your balls on it, you know just to see if they will stick

  • hello friend great video !!! can i pout a peltier with "wrong polarity'' to make a fridge and a mini oven ?

  • i like your power supply thingy what is it also if your reverse the leads does the cold side go hot

  • I AM GOING TO MAKE ONE

  • where did you get the hear sink and how much was it and is it aluminuim or what?

  • what are you using to power it? how many amps, watts and volts does the peltier you have take? thanks

  • 2 Questions.. 1) What specifies the "hot" side of the Peltier.. If I reverse the voltage, Idealy I could flip the hold/cold side right?? Also, How well could you control the temperature if you controlled the voltage/current.

    1) HOW THE HELL DID THAT ONLY COST YOU 12.50?? Those fans go for as cheap as about $8-10 each, the heat sinks are at least $15 (probably more), and a peltier that size seems to be going for at the cheapest $20-25...

  • @Joovie88 Nope. The TECs are roughly 12 bucks on Ebay. The heat sinks you can pick up for 99 cents for the time being on Ebay also. Ebay is the place to get all this stuff, but on your side also :) .... they are all going up in price. You just have to get lucky.

  • its below freezing YOU MUST TOUCH IT

  • @clubpenguin1help

Yeah... stick your tongue on it.

    Freezing is good for you.

  • So whoever you bought the peltier unit said it was how many watts? Also what size is the heatsink (mm x mm x mm) or (inches x inches x inches)

  • uh i am abit confused u said the voltage was 12 volts it used half an amp and how many watt XD p/v=w :D

  • this is great! I want to turn my big picnic cooler into a fridge and run it continuously. can I use my rv's deep-cell marine battery to power it thru my lighter and if so, will my battery keep a sufficient charge to do this if it's on a standard battery charger plugged into the wall? Don't ask why I want to do it this way, it's too complicated. If not, what kind of battery can I use? I've read that you have to use dc power, never ac.

  • sooo... can i build one and use it to cool down my soda can in my rooom?

  • @Zaharkl Yea, but you'd have to mount it on top of a huge-ass passive heatsink and clamp it down pretty thoroughly, or else the whole thing will just overheat and explode.

  • LICK IT!!!

  • its pronounced pelt-E-A

  • perfect cpu cooler :P

  • @123pvpworld

Yes and no, yes if it is regulated, and no if it isn't. The peltier coolers used for CPU coolers are regulated, if the cooler was on all the time there could be a potential buildup of condensation on the processor that could easily short something out.

  • where did you buy the peltier?

  • @JVzQz86 EBAY YO!

  • Is it a really cool device??

  • I really like the 'sideways' airflow, can you give details on the heatsinks and or fans?? great vid! thanks!

  • PS: I have a P4 heatsink, it will work?

  • How many bills cost this heatsink? Is so big

  • You know what they should do with thse things. Is Install huge ones on the roof of Houses and then The part thats inside will have a fan on it, Then when its hot out side It will run a Fan as well Get frosty cold on the other side. Then in the winter it will be frosty cold outside and it will keep it warm on the inside and will run the Fan to blow the heat off. Pretty Much Same thing just reversed. And it would be considered "Green Solar Energy"

  • @Learnthethingsido The problem with your pipe-dream is that peltiers, which are basically just dozens of semiconductor cells sandwiched between two different metal plates, consume an ass-tone more energy than they produce, something that is unfortunately inherent to any non-superconductive materials but even more true when it comes to semiconductors

So the potential for "green energy" is null

Also, you can't just reverse the effect by reversing the current-flow so you'd have to flip them over

  • how does the peltier element work and where do you get it?and how efficient is it?

could you use one to cool liquid for a liquid cooled pc cooling system, and do they come in different sizes?

  • To those complaining about Fahrenheit, go find a British video w/Celsius instead of American.

  • you should be running that at 12V if your output is only 3 amp

    46(w)/12(v)= 3.83(A)

If you run it at 7 volt you increase the amps

    46(w)/12(v) = 6.57(a)

Not taking the piss, just pointing it out.

  • @Sethjxl Lowering the Volts will lower the Amps not increase them.

  • @OtagoMark

Your reading comprehension sucks dude. What he is saying is that if you decrease the amps you have to raise the volts to get the same watts and vice versa.

  • @gamewizard If you raise the volts you'll raise tha amps at the same time you complete moron , Theres nothing wrong with my comprehension ....You don't understand the relationship between volts and amps and neither does he and thats the problem

  • @OtagoMark

Watts= volts x amps. Look it up sometime. If you lower one then you have to raise the other in order to get the same amount of watts. YOU look it up moron.

  • @gamewizard The problem you have is that you've looked up a formulas and don't actually understand how it works.. if you lower the volts you lower the amps at the same time!! you can't adjust them independantly.

The way you raise the amps is by applying more volts...

  • @OtagoMark

Let me make it simple for you. If you want to output 100W, there is not just one way to do it. Since Watts = volts x amps, then you can plug in any divisor of 100 into the equation and get 100W. 1 volt x 100 amps =100W, 2 Volts x 50 amps= 100W, 4 volts x 25 amps =100W, etc. If you raise the volts, you MUST lower the amps or you won't get 100W anymore. You can't raise the volts to 4 and leave the amps at 50 or 100 because then you'll be putting out more than 100W. Understand now?

  • @gamewizard Let me ask you something, If you have a peltier chip and a set amount of voltage, how the heck do you think you're going to raise the amps without raising the voltage to do so..be interested in how you'll achieve this feat

  • @OtagoMark

You don't have a set amount of voltage. An ATX powersupply can be modified to deliver many different currents. You have 12V coming off an ATX PS right? You also have 5v, 3.3V etc, and if you know how to modify a power supply you can make up whatever volts x amps combination that you need.

  • @gamewizard I know you don't have a set amount of voltage, but you were talking about independantly adjusting the current... you cannot do that with out adjusting the voltage, you seem to think that you can, so I asked you... if the voltage is set how do you adjust the current? . You do not understand how electricity works thats painfully obviousfrom your previous reply, you cannot have a 2v supply as you've stated and somehow increase the current to get the same watts..it doesnt work lke that

  • @gamewizard You said this in a previous post "Watts= volts x amps. Look it up sometime. If you lower one then you have to raise the other in order to get the same amount of watts. YOU look it up moron."

What you fail to understand is that if you lower the volts you also lower the amps and the watts all at the same time, a 100watt lightbulb for instance is only 100 watts if the correct amount of voltage is aplied, you cannot apply 2 volts to it and still get 100 watts if it needs 240 volts

  • @OtagoMark

Can you please leave Ohm's Law out of this for a minute. What we are talking about here is multiple ways of making a particular wattage, which is what the original poster that you replied to was trying to say that apparently slipped right by you. Do you deny that you can make a particular wattage in many different ways? I have shown you that yes, you can make a particular wattage in many ways but still you argue Ohm's Law to me.

  • @gamewizard With a given resistance theres only one way. You do not understand Ohms law...

I explained it serveral posts ago and you've only now started to understand it ...and now you're trying to back track

  • @OtagoMark

I've thought about it for a minute and I see now where the misunderstanding lies. You're thinking that I'm saying you can raise one and lower the other in the same circuit and I'm talking about creating the same wattage in different circuits. Yes, you can have two different circuits both producing 100W total power using different combinations of amps and volts but you can't adjust a single circuit to make the same watts in different ways. Is that what you mean?

  • This is real interesting technology! I love this stuff! Every once in a while when I have a couple of hours I like to play around with the Peltiers I have in my toolbox. I'd really like to get a job working for one of the companies that produce peltier coolers and /or assemblies for different industries.

  • Hi RCSteve93, I am working with 170 watts peltier, so I want to ask you some question; What kind of paste have you used to join peltier with the heatsink ?, Why did you use this paste?; is this paste easy to remove?, thanks.

  • where do u get peltiers?

  • @jacob12marcelo ebay

  • Where did u buy the Peltier?

  • so could you acutally cool your pc using one of these pluse a headsink ?

  • @Overclocker49 yup i just bought some its awesome :D

  • @ericdalgetty i will try it out :) xD hepefully i dont damage my pc :D

  • 3.8 ˚F are around -15˚ C

  • wtf is 3.8 degrees Farenheit?

  • Dam i wish i both this instead of v8 cooler. A lot cheaper and cooler.

  • how cold is it in real units? :P

  • @akademiker23 'Bout -15 Celcius

  • @akademiker23

Wot? You mean Enema-merikens using Hogs Heads of Texas Tea to the Furlong and Brown and Smith No. 37 wire gauge diameters to the cubit is not good enough for you?

    Retarded "other worlder".

(Footnote. 95% of the worlds population uses metric - inbred and backward Merikins still use the Elizabethan gauges and measurements of 1688)

  • Very good!

I want to know where you purchased your property.

Sorry for my English I use a translator

    Thanks

  • im american and i hate fahrenheit

  • 2,8 F is not cold!!! here in Finland (Europe) its just about -35 celsius (0 F is at -17,7 celsius)

  • you sound like Christian Slater.

  • WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE FARENHIET?!?!?!?! CELCIUS AND KELVIN ARE HARDER BECAUSE YOU NEED A CONVERSION CALCULATOR TO FIGURE OUT HOW COLD IT IS!

  • @TheNuclearWatermelon you're a moron. Adding 273 degrees to celcius to get kelvin is hardly a conversion.

  • @matthewkedwards i was just saying. farenhiet is a hell of a lot easier to deal with

  • @TheNuclearWatermelon why? at 0 celsius water Freeze at 100 it boils :) reagular room tempreture is about 22-25 celsius and you`re body temp is 36 celsius (37 and you are soon sick)

  • @TheNuclearWatermelon IT`S NOT HARDER!!!!!!!! YOU SEE 0 CELSUIS WATER FREEZE AT 100CELSUIS WATER IS BOILING ITS THAT EASY :)

  • @TheNuclearWatermelon why should you need that? att 0 celsius water freez att 100 celsius it boils, 20-24 celsius is you´re room temp 36-37 is you´re body temp ;)

  • peltier + liquid nitrogen = almost a nice cpu cooler...

what happens when you put the voltage at 15.0V?

  • @russotragik I can answer that, you see, these two fans have "effective voltage" or RMS voltage (root mean square) of 12 volts which means they can run constantly at 12V without any problems. If you want to know the Maximum voltage of a device you multiply it's RMS voltage with the square root of 2, in this case thats:

12V * √2 = 16, 97 ; this means you can supply these two fans with a voltage of 16,97 but ONLY FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS!

I hope this helped if you have more questions just ask :)

  • Great video man! Should use Kelvin for your temperature units.

  • fuck celsius!

  • @phantom1000A Fuck fahrenheit! it`s just a stupid German that came up with that :P 0 F is 17,7 Celsius 100F is 37,8F (body temp of that stupid German guy that had Fever) water boils at 100c what about Fahrenheit? 212 F!! harder to remember and water freezes at? 32F also harder to remember :)

  • @TheEsseboy GERMAN??? We Use Celsius here!! no fahrenheit.

  • @Basshinzu Yes it was a german...Google it ;)

  • @TheEsseboy

yes it was named after a german physicist, but we never used this scale here in germany. only a few american states and sometimes a few people in britain use it.

  • @Basshinzu Did I say that germans used it? no, germans thought that his scale was stupid so they dont use it there :D

  • Face it, your units of measurement are outdated, i mean miles ffs

MILES! Fahrenheit isn't so bad i guess, but..... MILES?

  • nah...Fahrenheit is more accurate in measuring temperature, sorry. Thats why Americans still use it.

  • @Kjbrunzo 21.3672638734 C ........ acurate enough for you?

  • @Kjbrunzo

why dont they start using kelvin if they want to be accurate?

  • @Kjbrunzo

I don't see the problem with using decimal points, they're still numbers...

  • Excellent. Thank you for the upload.

  • i need this for my xbox 360 :D

  • where did you get the heatsink?

  • @cubesolver Most people get them from old computers they take apart, they are on top of the CPU.

  • just one word - TRIPOD

  • hey man i have been looking on sites for this but much rather buy off line do you know where i should look like mabe a fridge repair shop please help much whould be a preciate thnx

  • Great video. I just ordered a couple 60W peltier modules, and your vid gave me a good idea of what kind of results I'm expecting to see.

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • can i point out that a lot of thermal paste is actually insulative as a pose to conductive.

you need a very thin but entirely surface covering layer. make sure both side have been cleaned with isopropyl alchahol.

my use for this is basically two of your arrangments with an alumium box section tube sandwedged between.

i then blow air through this ice cold tube and viola!!!! pc air condidtioning ive dropped internal case temps by over 10 deg C

  • Is there any way to control the cooling temp? Lowering supply voltage maybe? Also, if heat is applied to the cool side and the device has to cool it down does that then make the hot side hotter? Im going to cool RF Mosfets

  • So thats what makes my dads car cooler work......

    Extremely interesting.

  • I think I've been able to go down to -40C = -40F while I ran mine in a freezer (-28C = -18F). Wonderful stuff.

  • Ok, I have this mini fridge... Instead of it being cool, i wanna make it a heat box. Can I just reverse the current? Do do i have to remove the peltier and flip it over... I wanna know before i attempt and accidently destory my cooler.

    Thanks

  • @ccraig412 You can just flip it over to make it a heat box.

  • @gamebuster800 Or reverse the electricity flow.

  • heat sync paste is a fine silver dust suspended in a silicone grease it is usualy white in color. the grey stuff you see here is jb weld epoxy used for almost annything. you can aslo mix super glue in with you're heat sync paste to mount the heat sync to the TEC.

  • i thing cant use in cpu ,this will make the pc shock....is good to make a small refrigerator

  • where did you get that heatsink from?

  • best cpu cooler

  • This grey material around peltier, what is it, please? newpreme?

  • Some kind of thermal epoxy I think

  • I pretty sure its JB Weld.

  • thermal grease, it's used for heatsinks

  • he said... JB weld

  • How much amperes it working better?

  • how id u get the peltier module stuck onto the heatsync with enough conduction to make it work :S i tried but i failed

  • What is the max temp that this peltier can handle? Is there something that can handle cooling engine coolant?

  • Thanks for making this video. That JB weld seems to be doing good things, that may be what I need for my peltier units.

  • Great demo on the TEC principal, Steve. I knew about peltiers way back in the pentium processor days.............o those days. I have a cuisinart cwc-600 wine cooler that uses TEC for cooling. I am repairing this for a friend of mine, and she complained that it stopped working after 2 days. I really think the unit works, but is a a victim an under engineered product. Anyway, thanks for the refresher course. P.S. I am now a subscriber to your channel :).

  • Hi Steve;

This is a nice video- just the type I was looking for on the internet.

I would be interested to see if you have further experiments...

  • I saw a modified Miller bobcat welding machine supply power for a large "cooling" device once on a job site. The guy would place entire 5 gallon spring water bottles inside a box, and freeze them for the people operating the blast furnaces. It took about 10 seconds but it was cool as hell none the less. You can have ice water in hell...for 5 bucks! -was the motto on is shirt and truck. the bottles were used for keeping the hydration packs cool while operating 1800+ degree furnaces.

  • wow !! thats cool

  • ffs why do people use fahrenheit? Why need all the big numbers?

  • I <3 Fahrenheit. Honestly, I've just been raised with it, and Celcius is close to jibberish to me. My brain thinks: 80 degrees out = moderately hot.... 50 degrees out = moderately cold. :P

  • I know i dont get that either.

  • @ImaginativeBrowsing We should switch to metric. But many Americans don't want the hassles of having to learn a new system of measurement. Even if it's a far more logical and simpler system. So I don't thing we will see speed limit signs in kph any time soon in the US. For my own measurements I tend to use metric. Both my digital scales are set to metric.

  • @ImaginativeBrowsing Maybe because we don't live in Europe and like to use a normal numbering system.

  • @Linkjoy123

a normal numbering system? so you mean other temperature scales are not normal? ^^

by the way, do you know the history of fahrenheit and his way of creating the scale?

i think using the temperatures of the physical state of water is a better way to make a temperaturscale - 0-100

  • Comment removed

  • @ImaginativeBrowsing Why need metric? Why all the big numbers? 6 FT (feet) or 182.88 CM centimeters.

0*F = freezing point of SALTwater, 0*C = freezing point of FRESH water. It's just a different angle of looking at things. Its a tool, learn both and stop complianing.

  • @kirkthecapt Except the saturation of salt in water can vary hugely, where as fresh water has far fewer variables. Ideally we should all just be using Kelvin.

  • dammit Fahrenheit pisses me off

  • @438426x1 Funny how that works in the United States we use Fahrenheit most of the time and Celsius some of the time so it works both ways about Celsius pissing us off but its not to hard to remember the difference.

  • @438426x1 C=(F-32)/1.8 :)

  • @438426x1 just half it and take away 30 fo instance 90farenheight is 30 celcius its not exact but close

  • Is it possible to cool an entire room with one of these on a larger scale?

  • yes.

  • i have 350 watt peltier junctions that can move some serious heat... the main problem is that they draw so much current! 15 volts and 25amps or so max... lol 25 amps is huge at 15 volts...

  • yer but they are highly innefficient better off with air con ;)

  • How did u attach it to heat sink did u use thermal paste? and what will happen if u connect heat sink to both side? thank you

  • where can i purchase this peltier? and or all this stuff, and i was thinking of turning my locker in school into a fridge via this set up, any suggestions to how id go about doin this? thanks!

  • Currently implementing this technology to cool down the Radiator of my PC meaning that no matter how small the Rad is the PC will never go above room temp.

  • Could you use this Directly on a Cpu?

  • I am actually building a micro drink cooler with one of these. i ordered the peltier yesterday and have the heatsink/fan, BUT WHERE DO I GET THERMAL PASTE??? please respond before i get the peltier and fry it.

  • Ha ha ha, i dont think you need one if you build a drink heater (like im planning on)

  • Either ebay, or any computer shop in your area. If you're lucky, the heatsink comes with thermal paste already stuck to it.

P.S. Besides thermal paste, you can use thermal "tape", thermal glue, or thermal grease...

  • hahah my last name is Peltier!

  • dude my last name is peltier wtf?

  • the guy who invented this kind of cooling had the same last name. lol

  • It would be nice if you could add annotations with the temperature in °C

    Anyway, nice video

  • just search "fahrenheit to celcius calculator" in google and click on the first result.

  • I know I can do that, I'm not a retard. I mean it would be more convenient to have it while we watch the video.

  • U=9.5V

    I= A?

    or P= W?

  • what is your room temp?

  • 71°F

  • nice experiment

  • What is the part number of the peltier device used in the demonstration?

  • is the jb weld just to insulate the hot side more from the cold side?...thats a ton just to hold it in place

  • Buffff... that is awesome.

I was thinking at get one peltier one time... but for that problem.. .the ice.

You need preparate teh motherboard very good.

    But yes tht is awesome!

Thank you for the video, nice !

  • roughly how many amps u drawing?

    great work by the way

  • wait does more yolts make it cooler? i have a coke mini fridge and it only gets to 31? help plz

  • peltier elements rock! i have one too, but my cooling technique is not as good as yours but i get frost on the cold side as well and drops just spread over the surface and bing-frozen!

    YAY PELTIER ELEMENTS ROCK

  • oh forgot to ask, do you apply thermal paste to both sides? Or do you just put the peltier on the cpu without thermal paste

  • (5 stars)

Is there any way to clean the surface of the peltier to boost the cooling of the cpu?

Also, would Arctic silver 5 work for this, or what thermal grease/paste do you recommend for a peltier cooler?
