@Orchiidify because she is a good sport and wanted to give the audience some fun...
Don Quixote as a ballet (!!!) is not exactly the most intellectual of subjects... throwing a party there is not the equivalent of ending Romeo and Juliet with 32 fouettés en tournant...
This is perfect circus! She not have good double fouettes!Polina Semionova doing much better and Unlike Osipova very confidence and with percfect musicallity. When ballet dancer decide do double series of fouettes, she must have great rehearse it.Osipova is strongly good dancer, but she should do things with confidence and not things which is depsite of her options. Finally it looks like a circus and not dance.
Fouettes are the least artistic part of a ballet. They don't contribute to the story at all, so why is everyone harping on "art"? Her fouettes are amazing, just enjoy them!!!!
i'm not fun of Natalia but i love her tricks(as you wrote), her jumps, she has something and it's really pleaser to watch her on a stage. i saw her ones in Munich and it's were the best what i have seen in D. Quixote. SHE IS THE BEST KITRI at the moment in the world
Maybe all around she's not the best in the world but I would agree with damai82 about her Kitri. I haven't seen it live but as a comparison from all the various Kitris I've seen online, she is definitely the most vivacious and certainly captures that special something I would expect from a fiery character like Kitri.
That was STUNNING! And she did it the second time just as good... Or better. Was that a performance or a dress rehersal though, because she was walking casually a lot? She was AMAZING though!!!! :)
She is an inspiration, and she looks even better watching her live! She was amazing at the gala for the YAGP New York finals in 2008 doing Flames of Paris. She got a standing ovation from everyone in the crowd, and her partner as well, but I can't remeber who he was! Polina Semionova was there as well, but I think I prefer Natalia!!! :) She has a sweeter and younger face!
Why do people comment on her arms? There have been very few dancers ever to have been able to do the full 32 fouette without extending their arms in the default manner. Maximova is another one of the few great dancers able to do this.
Sure. But ballet is about everything, including "how high you can 'kick' you leg up" But the main think about Osipova - she is fantastically expressive, she is an actrees on the stage.

Those were... bad. Were leg was all over the place, nowhere NEAR her knee sometimes, almost 90 degrees and her working foot wasn't arched at all. Now that I watch it again I suppose she meant to do it that way, but it wasn't very aesthetically pleasing and it looked like an accident at first glance.
wtf. that was amazing. she was doing at least a double on almost every turn and triples as well. not to mention she stayed on the spot the entire time and didnt move an inch.
"...more is not always better. i once saw a ballerina do 96 fouttes, but she fell and snapped a tendon. her career was over. so, sometimes more is not better." g. balanchine
What a risk!! She must be really trained and confident to do such speedy fouettes, with doubles, triples and all. You cannot fix that if you loose your balance: you go straight to the floor.
I dance for fun (not at a really big ballet school) and I can barely do 4 fouettes in a row, much less as fast as natalia did them! this is so impressive!
you know the one thing she does need to work on is her shoulders, they need to stay down a bit more. and i guess her arms could be a little more fluid. im very glad her fouettes have improved. i thought she was going to be a stronger jumper initially but her turns are improving as well!
i love how the first time she did the fouettes she wasnt smiling. then the second time she had the biggest smile ive ever seen on a ballerina! funny! i guess if i was an amazing turner i would have the biggest grin too! haha
Also, I don't like what some people are saying about U.S. audiences. Yes, we can be loud, but only because we like what we see. Wouldn't you, if you were onstage, like to here people cheering for you, and wanting an encore?

She doesnt straighten her leg, at all. It's like she does an odd attitude front, then brings it straight into a not turned out passe. Seriously, I believe maybe it is choreographed this way for this certain show??... I have no excuse for her. Obviously I am not a big fan of Osipova, technically or artistically, but I wont be rude about it.
It's amazing to see that Osipova's detractor(s) are mainly (only?) in the US: she is not the perfect ballerina, but she is having great successes all over Europe. Probably, as one deleted message was saying, European audience is very ignorant. Especially the Mariinsky one, here asking to see twice Osipova's fouettes. :-)
I do not understand why there has to be always someone critizising the osipova- Zakharova fouettes. I can do 32 really good fouettes and that doesn't make me a good ballerina,These two ladys are the primas ballerinas at the Bolshoi, why do you think is that? Because the do not have a good tecniche? Come on Please!!! The girl is beautifull, she dances like beautifull, and she is really sweet.
This video is "old" (April 2007): I've seen her in DQ a couple of weeks ago in Turin and she was fantastic... but one week later in Giselle she was absolutely amazig, very delicate and controlled, having improved a lot from her first performance: one of the best Giselle I've ever seen!!! Having not seen with my eyes, I wouldn't trust to anybody saying this, but I think she is better as Giselle than as Kitri!!!
Am I the only one to find fault with her turns? She is very sloppy. Surely one doesn't have to be a professional to see that this is not the right way to do fuetes.
How many accounts do you have on youtube? This comment remains, as all the negative but fair comments are remaining (your fist wasn't), but just because you don't have Somova's clips among your favs on this account: one cannot make critics to any dancer having Somova as favourite. :-)
Could you please elaborate on what she is doing incorrectly? I am sure you know that different schools (i.e. Russian, Italian....) teach fouettes differently. Typically, the Russian school teaches fouettes at 45 degrees with the leg opening directly to the side. However, some Russian dancers use a rond de jambe and/or a higher leg. Zakharova, for instance, opens her leg directly to the side but uses a very high leg. Osipova appears to use a rond de jamb at 45 degrees.
i found these fouettes a little sloppy too, i think its mainly that she doesnt get her leg into retire as quickly as she should be. also she doesnt appear to be turning out to her fullest. her arms are also very sloppy. this is just what i saw in her dancing purely from a technical perspective- so please dont go blocking my account or anything (i am not miaculpa80 or any of their incarnations)
