  • some watchers could say that it looks too much like gymnastic, but I think that Kitri would do the same of Natalia. She just represents the character

  • Whyy did she go back to stage and do it agian???

  • @Orchiidify because she is a good sport and wanted to give the audience some fun...

Don Quixote as a ballet (!!!) is not exactly the most intellectual of subjects... throwing a party there is not the equivalent of ending Romeo and Juliet with 32 fouettés en tournant...

  • This is perfect circus! She not have good double fouettes!Polina Semionova doing much better and Unlike Osipova very confidence and with percfect musicallity. When ballet dancer decide do double series of fouettes, she must have great rehearse it.Osipova is strongly good dancer, but she should do things with confidence and not things which is depsite of her options. Finally it looks like a circus and not dance.

  • Her fouettes are really fast ! One think I dislike about this is that she doesn't make it look effortless... But don't get me wrong, she is amazing !

  • When will it be in the Black Swan coda??! xD

  • dont get me wrong i <3 her but her face is a tad distracting.

  • i'm like- O_O now. HOW DOES SHE DO THAT ?!

  • How in the fuck does she achieve such spinning speed?...... she's not on ice with blades????

  • @lukebccb have you seen her muscles? she is solid as a rock, more than any other ballerina

  • But this is not just circus tricks people we can see the art in her fouettes !!!!

  • Fouettes are the least artistic part of a ballet. They don't contribute to the story at all, so why is everyone harping on "art"? Her fouettes are amazing, just enjoy them!!!!

  • The Great Maya Plisetskaya said: "If you want to see tricks - go to the circus"

  • i love how excited she is when she finishes those! beautiful!

  • A very good dancer and showwoman at the same time!

  • Bravo bravo bravo!!!

  • she is the best in the WORLD!!! BRAVA!!!!

  • beautiful

  • アンコールまでやってのけた!

    凄い。

    excellent!

  • she is very very good ballerina, ella es lo maximo

  • She is amazing.

  • i'm not fun of Natalia but i love her tricks(as you wrote), her jumps, she has something and it's really pleaser to watch her on a stage. i saw her ones in Munich and it's were the best what i have seen in D. Quixote. SHE IS THE BEST KITRI at the moment in the world

  • Maybe all around she's not the best in the world but I would agree with damai82 about her Kitri. I haven't seen it live but as a comparison from all the various Kitris I've seen online, she is definitely the most vivacious and certainly captures that special something I would expect from a fiery character like Kitri.

  • @Ninjerina I saw her in London this summer in Don Q... Oh. My. God. I don't think I will ever forget it!

  • Listen to the person around the end of her first series at about 0:27.

    They're saying "Oh my god"

    Haha(:

  • "the audience loves me!"

    what's not to love?

    lol

  • jjajajajajajja

  • Excelente.

  • ça ce sont des fouettés !!!! Waouhhhhhhh

  • Well, since she started and they had to catch up, it was actually the music that didn't fit in well with her.

  • Does the audience ask for encores a lot in Russia? I've never seen that before.

  • beautiful... her hair piece is coming off.

  • her fouttes were SUPER fast!!! Love her!

  • I think its quite incredible how she manages to keep her technique at the speed she's going

  • wow what an entrance

  • what? =O

  • I didn't like her arms either, but I would have still shouted bravo when she finished.

  • She's gorgeous! But why did she have to do it twice... it's not sports!

  • i dont know to much about ballet .. but what is the difference between pirouette and fouettes

  • the pirouette is where the toe stays attached to the knee....fouette is when the leg goes in and out of passe while turning.

  • She does them much better en pointe than what I am able to do on demipointe!

  • That was STUNNING! And she did it the second time just as good... Or better. Was that a performance or a dress rehersal though, because she was walking casually a lot? She was AMAZING though!!!! :)

  • She is an inspiration, and she looks even better watching her live! She was amazing at the gala for the YAGP New York finals in 2008 doing Flames of Paris. She got a standing ovation from everyone in the crowd, and her partner as well, but I can't remeber who he was! Polina Semionova was there as well, but I think I prefer Natalia!!! :) She has a sweeter and younger face!

  • Does anyone else think she preps like a man. check it out on the second time around. Not even caring she's on stage.

    Otherwise pretty fierce!

  • Why do people comment on her arms? There have been very few dancers ever to have been able to do the full 32 fouette without extending their arms in the default manner. Maximova is another one of the few great dancers able to do this.

  • Bravo~ excellent job, Osipova!

But y did she do it 2 times

  • lol after just establishing a double pirouette on pointe at 18 i def feel like quitting dang shes awesome

  • Comment removed

  • no...

  • I like how she smiles at the end of the first fouettes

  • Maravillosa

  • She is WOW , but I don´t like sooo.. her arms !

  • i dont know what to say other than WOW!

  • haha looks so effortless.

    what a speed.

    i sympathize with the orchestra.

  • She makes that look so easy! hahaha i wish i could even do it! Lol!

  • God i love her! Not only is she amazing technically but she really performs!!!

  • I don't think there is anyone who is better than this girl, she's something else!! So energetic and technically amazing and soooooo HAPPY!!

  • She was doing something weird with her hands, but her amazing stage presence and beautiful technique make up for that weird little thing.

  • Hm, she was pulling her arms in very close... Usually that helps you turn faster and would make it easier to get all those doubles in:)

  • I'm in complete awe right now... freaking incredible. this is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! Holy crap!!! seriously... incredible.

  • i think that the best part is that you can tell she really really enjoys it! you can see it on her face! i love it!

  • wow!!!!

    Abel

  • sory ... my english is not very good!!

  • She is breathtaking, but I prefer less but with more Quality... but Xhe is a great ballerina instead.

  • y is every1 saying her arms are weird and she didnt kick her lesg high enough? shes amazing and ye're just jealous because ye can't do that!

  • what is she doing with her arms, it looked kinda funky?

  • She's amazing!

  • her leg that she is kicking out also could have been higher

  • ballet isn't about how high you can 'kick' you leg up... it is about the artistry. how you do it. it is not acrobatics. it's ballet.

  • i think people have different opinions about that. but i do partly agree with u.

  • Sure. But ballet is about everything, including "how high you can 'kick' you leg up" But the main think about Osipova - she is fantastically expressive, she is an actrees on the stage.

  • @balletrocksmyworld thank you so much! someone who understands!

  • @balletrocksmyworld

So very true...With increasing extremes in technique, more and more people are forgetting what this art is really about...

  • way better than i will ever be, but i think Kirov Mariinsky is better.

  • i dont like her arms neither.

  • I don't really like her arms... Gorgeous otherwise.

  • wtf. that was amazing. she was doing at least a double on almost every turn and triples as well. not to mention she stayed on the spot the entire time and didnt move an inch.

  • holy shit!

  • whats wrong with her arms?

  • Her arms look like they're double jointed. I know mine are and people have freaked out over it..

  • I love her smile when she finishes her fouttes its so amazing and sincere I LOVE HER!!!!

  • she is crazy!!!

  • "...more is not always better. i once saw a ballerina do 96 fouttes, but she fell and snapped a tendon. her career was over. so, sometimes more is not better." g. balanchine

  • What a risk!! She must be really trained and confident to do such speedy fouettes, with doubles, triples and all. You cannot fix that if you loose your balance: you go straight to the floor.

  • I got goosebumps and chills all over me when she finished those turns. That was absolutely amazing.

  • that was amazing!

but i kinda have the same question as balletchick9088...it doesn't really look like she extends her right leg all the way...

gorgeous though. i could never do that in a lifetime.

  • okay, this is amazinggg.

    but one question?

does it seem like she is not extending her right foot all the way?

    please reply!

    :D

  • balletchick9088: it's not just you. i saw it too. :D

  • maybe it happens because she's turning very fastly (maybe)and "she has no time"

  • It's just the style.

  • i also think that too! maybe she just doesnt have time tho?

  • natalia osipova 6 veramente F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C-A

  • no comment! she ist just great!

  • Shes very atheletic lol

  • i like the way shes moving. so fast. but her hands ... she has great energy in movement ...

  • and she stays in place almost the whole time!!!

    no one's like her!

  • I dance for fun (not at a really big ballet school) and I can barely do 4 fouettes in a row, much less as fast as natalia did them! this is so impressive!

  • SPETTACOLAREEEEEE!!!! davvero MITICA!! sono senza parole

  • Brilliant! And her tutu is gorgeous

  • She needs NOTHING !

    She is P-E-R-F-T-C !

Ther's no one who could do these double series of double Fouttes like her !

  • you know the one thing she does need to work on is her shoulders, they need to stay down a bit more. and i guess her arms could be a little more fluid. im very glad her fouettes have improved. i thought she was going to be a stronger jumper initially but her turns are improving as well!

  • She needs to fix her arms

  • That was the choreography. She is my favorite ballerina.

  • wonderful!

Funny though that she is not doing her fouettes in Russian style.

  • i agree!

  • What do you mean ?

  • There good but the on the double fouettes she never fully straightens her leg and her arms sort of get crumpled and really close to her body

    -dont hate me

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!! Very, but very few dancers can do this!

  • Who gave this four stars instead of five???

  • holy shit...wow there's nothing else 2 say!

  • why did she do it twice? was it encore or something?

  • I could be wrong but it looks like her passe` leg is more turned in ( parallel ) than it should be...

  • amazing!

i love how the first time she did the fouettes she wasnt smiling. then the second time she had the biggest smile ive ever seen on a ballerina! funny! i guess if i was an amazing turner i would have the biggest grin too! haha

  • the best fouettes i´ve seen in a while

  • wow. your ahmahziinggg!

  • mann.. EXTREMELY fabulous. you inspire me:D

  • holy guacamole! lol poor thing she had to do it twice! geez they love her that much. i wish the audience cheered for me that way :(

    shes fantabulous

  • VERY FAST

  • Also, I don't like what some people are saying about U.S. audiences. Yes, we can be loud, but only because we like what we see. Wouldn't you, if you were onstage, like to here people cheering for you, and wanting an encore?

  • I agree with merluzasfritas. Nobody is perfect, and to me, she is magnificent!

  • really gd:p even though she didnt stay in 1 place;p

  • nobody asked you!!!!!!!!

  • I wish I could do that!

  • Shame you can't even spell fouettes much less do them puppylove. You know for someone who doesn't appreciate her dancing you certainly comment/watch a lot of her videos on youtube. Until we all see you post a video of your amazing "fuetes" or otherwise, please refrain from your Natalia bashing, its not welcome here.

  • She has great strength and sense of turning but I have to agree with some of the other posters here about her form in this video. She's noticably turned in here where in other videos she looks just fine.

  • (contin)

She doesnt straighten her leg, at all. It's like she does an odd attitude front, then brings it straight into a not turned out passe. Seriously, I believe maybe it is choreographed this way for this certain show??... I have no excuse for her. Obviously I am not a big fan of Osipova, technically or artistically, but I wont be rude about it.

  • It's amazing to see that Osipova's detractor(s) are mainly (only?) in the US: she is not the perfect ballerina, but she is having great successes all over Europe. Probably, as one deleted message was saying, European audience is very ignorant. Especially the Mariinsky one, here asking to see twice Osipova's fouettes. :-)

  • you call the European audience ignorant?

You obviously haven't been in the US at any kind of show.

US audiences are not only ignorant, but loud (not in a good way), and very prejudiced.

I think the audience in this video had a large number of american tourists. hence the encore

  • No, I don't call European audience ignorant. Somebody else did it in a deleted message.

This video was filmed at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Peterburg, Russia, Europe: hard to call them "ignorant".

  • actually russian audiences are much more demonstrative and loud than American audiences.

  • Let me elaborate "what she is doing incorrectly".

She is niether doing russian or american fouettes, she is actually not doing fouettes at all, but just turning.

  • I do not understand why there has to be always someone critizising the osipova- Zakharova fouettes. I can do 32 really good fouettes and that doesn't make me a good ballerina,These two ladys are the primas ballerinas at the Bolshoi, why do you think is that? Because the do not have a good tecniche? Come on Please!!! The girl is beautifull, she dances like beautifull, and she is really sweet.

  • love her!

  • Oh my god! she's getting better by the second! I just love her!

  • This video is "old" (April 2007): I've seen her in DQ a couple of weeks ago in Turin and she was fantastic... but one week later in Giselle she was absolutely amazig, very delicate and controlled, having improved a lot from her first performance: one of the best Giselle I've ever seen!!! Having not seen with my eyes, I wouldn't trust to anybody saying this, but I think she is better as Giselle than as Kitri!!!

  • "joy and generosity" what a good way of describing Osipova's style!

  • How many accounts do you have on youtube? This comment remains, as all the negative but fair comments are remaining (your fist wasn't), but just because you don't have Somova's clips among your favs on this account: one cannot make critics to any dancer having Somova as favourite. :-)

  • I've now counted 4 account from you. Any other message will be deleted and the accaout blocked.

  • Could you please elaborate on what she is doing incorrectly? I am sure you know that different schools (i.e. Russian, Italian....) teach fouettes differently. Typically, the Russian school teaches fouettes at 45 degrees with the leg opening directly to the side. However, some Russian dancers use a rond de jambe and/or a higher leg. Zakharova, for instance, opens her leg directly to the side but uses a very high leg. Osipova appears to use a rond de jamb at 45 degrees.

  • i found these fouettes a little sloppy too, i think its mainly that she doesnt get her leg into retire as quickly as she should be. also she doesnt appear to be turning out to her fullest. her arms are also very sloppy. this is just what i saw in her dancing purely from a technical perspective- so please dont go blocking my account or anything (i am not miaculpa80 or any of their incarnations)

  • Do not misunderstand: not only positive but also negative comments are welcome, when expressed with education and respect. :-)

The last account I blocked (I presume always from the same person) was named as an insult to a well know person writing in several ballet forum. No room here for provocation and insulting.

  • lol alright thanks- i just wanted 2 make sure that u didnt think i was trying 2 b insulting or anything. butyeah thanks 4 the vid anyway

  • did she get an encore???? shes very good

  • That was so beautiful!

  • This is such fun to watch - and that smile! Awesome is the right word.

  • I was in the 9th row for this and it was awesome! Please post more from this performance if you have it!!!!!!!! Thank you!
