  • 240p. we meet again...

  • I actually like his riff work more than his solos. Petrucci is one of the greatest technical players out there, but his solo writing ability is kinda meh... the dude just never knows when enough is enough. I think this sounds awesome though, despite the piss poor video quality.

  • @LlamaTheory His solos on A Change of Seasons and DT's earlier work in general (Images & Words, Awake) are a lot more balanced than the ones Metropolis Part 2 onward (in particular, his stuff on Train of Thought sounded forced)

  • i think he really miss his ibanez, and his playing was much better with the ibanez

  • Someone tell JP to NEVER shave his beard like that again. xD

  • A Midnight Blue Burst Ibanez 7 string!?! what model is this? is it only in japan or is it a LACS??

  • pre-steroid era

  • Wich guitar is it? Whic pickups does it have in?

  • @GiobbaWylde This was early enough that it could have only been Dimarzio Blaze Bridge (which is like JP's Steve's Special in his 6 strings at the time, not to be confused with blaze custom which was more like Vai's evolution bridge pickup)

  • was this filmed with a sponge :/

  • @philcarlsen This vid is older than 10 years, that's for sure

  • @philcarlsen no... It was obviously a guitar pedal.

  • He's playing Just Let Me Breathe (Falling into Infinity) :)

  • Lets be honest even when JP dicks about. He's still Unbelievable. Consider my guitar burnt!!

  • This sounds like some Liquid Tension Experiment stuff

  • Kevid cool dude!

  • just make ure own xD or paint it yourselve or put other pickups in it, everything you come up with. that way you´ll always end up with a guitar that totaly suites you.

but ibanez should ofer more 7 strings like a 7 string destroyer! that would be sick....

  • ace of spades HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • how young is he here?

  • he's so youngO.O

  • he looks like jesus

  • A three-fingered player with seven strings! What is the deal with his pinky?

  • OMG RIFF FROM ANIMALS AS LEADERS AND TRIVIUM IN THE FIRST 20 SECS! AT LIKE 15ISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU KNOW?!

  • Name of the song?

  • its jesus, he has returned to spread the good word and shred a little also

  • He looks strange in this video.

  • I can honestly say I didn't think it was John Petrucci at first because of his facial hair.

  • new john petrucci would beat the shit out of old john petrucci.

  • @fell0wbaby physically you mean, but not as far as playing goes.

  • i'm just :-O

  • Which song is this from again? I forgot.

  • @sharmoota120 "Just Let Me Breathe" if you haven't figured it out yet

  • The music may not interest you, but that in no way makes it "bad".

  • Lol if someone hates on JP based on THIS vid they are thoroughly retarded.

#1: this is the verse riff of a song. It is meant to complement vocals not guitar.

#2: the song this is from was on an album where DT was being pressured to make more radio-friendly music. He and the rest of the band were not working to their full potential.

#3: this video quality is awful for the low-frequency notes of a 7-string.

Also, music is music. There is no "best" guitarist. The music may not interest you, b

  • @Guitarmazdur totally agreed.

  • @Guitarmazdur AGREED...John Petrucci is one the greatest figures of guitar playing. Truly an unfair representation of his incredible talent.

  • @guitarlegend950 John Petrucci is and will always be one of the greatest guitarists to ever live, imo. Glad some people agree! also since I posted that comment a LONG time ago, you responding drew my attention back to it and I just realized how much I failed at typing on an ipod XD "this song is from was on..."

  • he looks like nick menza lmfao

  • He looks like a latin lover lol

  • at 0:37. it's the ending part of dark eternal night. and this is way back when dream Theater's latest album might just have been Awake or something in that nature. lmao

  • meh... ive seen better

  • oh shit jesus can play guitar

  • anyone ever told you that you look like dave grohl?

  • is there a 7 string without a floyd rose. i hate my floyd rose!!!

  • @thomascatlett555 loads lol, my 7 and 8 strings have no floyd rose

  • @nubfaceforthelose what is a floyd rose (: ?

  • @ginjeeimano It is a type of bridge system on the guitar :)

  • Know the real reason behind September 11th? Both planes had the same radio station playing, and a Petrucci solo came on.

  • I was a little scared that DT had softened up and deprogged themselves for good when I first heard Falling To Infinity, but they are stronger than ever now. The last 3 albums have been fantastic!

  • I don't think Petrucci really dished oue the kind of crunch 7 strings were made for until recent albums, especially Black Clouds.....there is some Pantera-like riffing on A Nightmare to Remember, that's more like it!! Still, I'm nostalgic for the early Ibanez days at times....DT's first 3 albums had some of their best writing and performances, although not the best album production...

  • @400SA its true he doesn't play it the way the vast majority do, but if you haven't listened to "Acid Rain" off of the liquid tension exp II album or "Tunnel Vision" off his solo album, then i'd recommend you listen to them. not pantera like but he uses the low B string in such a rediculous melodic/rhythmic way it's awesome.....tony levin is also playing a chapman stick for acid rain so it's equally cool lol .

  • perhaps the most overrated guitarist of all time

  • @jfleminator wow

  • @jfleminator I don't think so... John is amazing.

The most overrated guitarist is Hammett in my opinion!

  • @IcoTheBest Lets not forget Slash. -___-

  • @KornSOAD Yeah dude... You're absolutely right!!

  • not his best demostration.. but who cares!

  • Back when Ibanez made sick seven strings that didnt come in just one or two colours and had sick hardware

  • @5tartawar

i think this is the brand of ibanez's he used before he had his own brand.

  • @5tartawar Yeah I'm a left-handed player and I now refuse to play Ibanez because of how gay they are.

  • @Metastophales0 i didnt mean they were shit I own 3 but im dissatisfied they dont have a wide selections in sevens anymore also I think its unfair that its so hard to find all models in lefty version

  • @5tartawar that´s why I´d prefer the new jackson stuff

  • @5tartawar

    There's always Schecter.

  • @5tartawar

exactly why i got mine swirled! :D

  • @5tartawar

    There's always Schecter I guess

  • @5tartawar Couldnt say it any better!

  • @5tartawar Theres stillalotof sick ibanez seven strings. Not only do I think ibanez make the best Seven strings, I think they make the best guitars. and two colors? You need to get out if you think ibanez only makse two colors of seven strings.

  • @Jfuck420 im not bashing ibanez haha my fave guitars which i own are my s prestige viking and an sz 320 im just sayin the 7 strings ibanez have been releasiing these days are dissapointing and could be greatly improved i've been playing for a long time and I know they can do better

  • @Jfuck420 would be nice to have color options but more color options makes it more spendy. Just a thought if they offered as many colors in the RG7321 as fender offers in a std strat I'm sure the RG7321 wouldnt be $399 anymore. As for hardware better picks up would be nice but then again cost would me up. IMO they got what counts cool and comfortable RG body, nice thin shred neck (shecters dont) I like bolt on necks

  • @5tartawar Yep, now if you want a good seven string for your money Schecter and ESP is the way to go imo.

  • It's an excerpt from the Dream Theater's song "Just Let me Breathe" from their "Falling into Infinity" album!!!! :D

  • I watch great guitarist on 7 string guitars and I'm not hearing their talent? For these guys the extra string should be a high string?. Below the high E string should be a high A string, Maybe that would make it much better for everybody..So the high notes would really pierce the shit out of the ears..Especially for kids with hot topic T shirts, that like go to guitar center to hang out at night..''Not a metal shirt goes by without me saying something'..lmao''.Tough little bastards though!..!aH

  • @dannyhood66 Actually the first 7-string guitar did have the high string, not the low one. I think it just didn't sound right, so that's why they did the lower one. Players like Petrucci, Vai, and MacAlpine are the ones who really do utilize the low string very well, whereas the rest of them are what I call the "1 finger- First stringer" players cuz that's all they use is the low B... A lot of Dream Theater and Planet X songs were written on the 7 and that pleasantly surprised me.

  • @jelenakiric What a trip! ''I had no idea they tried making a 7 string guitar with a high string below the high e string?

  • @jelenakiric

No man. The first 7-string guitar was made for bass patterns. I mean, it was made to let the jazz players play bass and guitar patterns at the same time. With the slap technique.

  • @KOTDport I don't think that really counts as a guitar, thought. And I ain't no man, man! :-P

  • videos like this make me realize even the pros arent what they seem to be.. i think i could almost shred him

  • @ibanez860 1st of 10 commandments of Petrucci:

I am just about awesome. Thou shall not question my talent.

  • @Elvastinen go ahead and watch over this again... theres some bogus farting noises coming out of his amp here... im sorry if i think i got better then this... obviously he has "as i am" which has a freak solo in it.. but im saying that recordings help alot.. theres plenty of ppl to this level.. with NO MONEY to produce them.. so many ppl just dying with talents

  • @jaydog664

I also thought "Ace Of Spades"...

  • What I wouldn't give for a basswood 7string with piezo (preferably with maple top or some cool/weird paint job)

  • @GuillermoSmyser i think carvin lets you pick your wood

  • I used to be intimidate by john because of his beard thinking he would be a asshole but when i saw his instructional DVD i was like hey ur a nice guy

  • i fuckin love ibanez 7 strings, if you want to get a 7 string, dont bother with any other brands, seriously, they are the best

  • ...I liked petrucci better when he played Ibanez.

  • he was a pussy now hes all muscular

  • the begginning sounds like ace of spades

  • Is that a RG-7321? Awesome! I have that guitar!

Basically got it so I could play Petrucci's crazy licks!

  • i actually thought the beginning sounded the ace of spades by motorhead

  • @cthulhuchild19 not too mention he kinda looks like lemmy

  • @cthulhuchild19 Which makes sense cuz he looks kinda like Lemmy here.

  • what it changes if it has 7 stirngs like who cares did it has the same sound that a 6 strings guitar?

  • Check out my cool guitars. Ibanez JPM and swirled JEM!

  • 7 string demo while he doesnt even use the 7th string :P awesome stuff

  • Comment removed

  • @mitchellvanvliet You're wrong, he is too using the 7th actually. Almost the whole time.

  • Isn't this acid rain?

I've only heard it once, so i could be wrong.

  • @Jacobiskoby37 Yeah, it is, part of it

  • @Jacobiskoby37 It's "Just Let Me Breethe" from the "Falling Into Infinity" album

  • Rock'in...

  • I have a 6 string tuned to B/Drop A, I still do strange stuff with it.

  • legend

  • damn thats some tone

  • fuuuuck.

that ascending lick he did at :16 was perfect

anyone know whats hes playing in general? like arpeggio or scale wise?

  • @ripbaloff It was an ascending Hirajoshi Scale, starting on E.

  • he looks like Dave Grohl here :P heehee!!! XD

  • somebody can tell mi if the 7th sring its tunned on B?¿?¿?¿

  • @ILOVEAYANAMI Yay! it's a B string

  • ahahah back when jp wasn't tank

  • rofl

  • lol, Sorry Petrucci, but that moustache looks ridiculous.

  • petrucci is a monster player, but man does his tone suck in this video !!!

  • New Millenium - Dream Theater that's the song he plays.

  • @JPMike No, he is playing Just Let me Breathe ...

  • How do u get that metal-type pinch harmonic he uses near the end? Is it just a low tuning?

  • @KarateMazdur yeah pinch harmonics tend to sound best when in low tunings

  • how do 7-strings somehow seem to magically force their players to do strange rhythm stuff? :D

  • hahhahahhaaha lol omg i dnt know but tht made me lol... lol

  • somehow 7 string guitars just look more "technical"...

  • Because I said so!

  • Polyrythmics are ideal for 7 strings even better on 8 ;-p

  • Because you add a low B as the 7th string & generally people who play 7 strings are really good

  • or just want to have more notes available and go deeper without having too loose strings

  • @misteriousj that's what my seven string did to me

  • @misteriousj It's not the 7-sting guitar that makes players do strange stuff ... strange people ( like me =] ) go out and get a 7 string so they can be strange

    hahaha

  • @misteriousj because theres not much point in having the 7th string and not use it, just like if you get the 27 fret xiphos, you most likely are going to solo

  • @misteriousj it's just the fact that the 7th string is so low, it sounds like a bass, which is a highly rhytmic instrument.

  • @blacksabbathgnr098 that's true, as chords sound rater muddy and undefined on the low string...but still there are (especially in metal) a lot of bands that tune that low or even lower on 6 strings and they generally also don't do such polyrhythms

  • @misteriousj You should see the effect of 8-strings. I agree on the magic force. I love my Ibanez RG-7321 :).

  • @misteriousj cuz if not theyd sound like nu metal two string songs

  • @misteriousj

haha :D its just "in" i guess :)))) but funny noticing!

  • @misteriousj RIGHT , and near these days i will join the small group of strange-ryth-stuff guitar players =) , .... but first i got to sell my jackson :S

  • @misteriousj i don't know. WOW i just realized it does force me to play weird rhythm stuff! i have a shecter omen-7. Wow! thank you for telling me!

  • @misteriousj The spirit of Meshuggah emanated from the 7 string guitar even before they formed... and even after they started using 8s too. :P

  • @misteriousj because thats how you use the access to a heavier bottom most epically.

  • @misteriousj hah :D tell that to an 8-string guitar player dude :D

  • @misteriousj There are demons that reside close to seven string guitars at all times. This is mainly due to the presence of the 7th string. You'll feel an evil vibe anytime you get close to one. Just stay away from accessories at guitar center and you'll be fine.

  • @misteriousj Man that is so true! As soon as I got mine I came up with some fuuuunky rythms. Go check out my "7-String Noodlin" video to see what I mean!

  • @misteriousj Since Meshuggah, that's been the case =D

  • @misteriousj I find the same happens when I pick up my 5-string bass. :O

  • i think when you pick up a 7string your hands are in a meshuggah state of mind.

  • @xizombiex nice one^^

  • @xizombiex hahah so true!

  • @misteriousj so true lol

  • STFU & GTFO

  • 0:36 - never get tired of that chord

  • @skatedoof ....thats now a chord...thats a pinch harmonic

  • idk all the guitar stuff- i play bass

  • dude you can use a seven string for watever you want!! i have a seven string and i dont even use the seventh string half the time

  • do you listen to Dream Theater? John sometimes does 'breakdowns' in their songs, a fine example is the one from The Glass Prison ; )

  • dream theater is anything but traditional

  • 0:17 what song...i have heard it before but i dont remember which one ? :)

  • Wait for Sleep maybe?

  • @kazetehskylord

i looked it up and its... "just let me breathe"

  • @jolli93 parte de uma musica do ANGRA

  • Just let me breath from the falling into infinity album

  • @jolli93 its a tiny part from learning to live

  • Just let me breathe from Falling into infinity.

  • yeah. JP is the man. cant wait for a 7string ibanez guitar of my own.

  • @TheGashunk

    forget 7 strings

8 strings are the next big thing ;)

  • Comment removed

  • the beginning sounds like jaws of life

  • @joey1895 Just B and C# notes :D

  • The beginnings sounds like "Ace Of Spades"

  • @joey1895

    Ace Of Spades XD

  • when you add a string is it high or low? like after the high E or before the low E?

  • Usually a low B

  • @12340012340 7 string adds a low B dude :)

  • you add a low B string. "before" the low E

  • @gytarok dude hes frickin jacked!! look at his arms, thats not fat..

  • @dtfan428 it's muscle, he probably lifts a lot of weight with few repetitions as opposed to lifting a small amount of weight with several reps. lifting more weight builds muscle and bulks you up where lifting a small amount of weight burns fat and trims you down. that's my understanding anyway

  • you wanna say that to his face when he kills you by playing 100000 notes per second? I think not bitch..... btw it's all muscle, he could crush you with one hand lol

  • lol you retard, have you never seen the adam02 John Petrucci voice overs? You would get the 100000 notes per second jokes.

Also he isn't bloated, he actually lifts weights. I only really care about his music tbh but you can't call him fat...
