I do not think it is a waste of time.... with radio control and point switching the Tomy trains are better than the usual electric trains with their electrified rails and DCC.... the Tomy ones are more durable and layouts can be changed easily... no need for lots of wiring... OK they lose on the realism, but are more playable...
