There are people who say that we shouldn't have public education, public police departments, public fire departments, etc, that everything should be privatized, accessible only to those with money. Seems to me the Bloomberg scenerio is proof that money DOESN'T rule. And- Obama is president because he won 4 "red" states. It happens that those four states were picked to be overseen by international observers.

I think that our culture is VERY progressive and even church-going people do not always follow the conservative party. If we had every state under observation for fair elections, we might find our nation is totally blue.

I'm a news and media addict, always watching and reading as much as I can and I think Democracy Now may well be the most informative and intelligent news show one can watch or listen to right now. Just go to their website, find out a story or guest you are interested him, download the show on your Ipod and listen to it while taking the bus. You will learn a lot.

The media as a whole has been a for-profit institution since Reagan. People can't complain that the media isn't doing their job, because they're doing exactly their job - which is to feed the public whatever the most people want to hear about.

Not to say that that's not the exact opposite of the way it SHOULD be, but you need to attack the OWNERS of "the media," and not "the media" itself. They're just the arms, not the brain.

CNN do not break stories, because it is expensive to do so. And, unlike with newspapers, if you break news on cable TV, the only people who find out are those watching at the time, whereas with newspapers, you have the headlines on every street corner, and a great headline will boost sales by many thousands, paying for all of the work in one go.

No, it's only provided if you RETIRE, so 20+ years. Otherwise, you're still a veteran, anyone who serves is, but your medical care must be acquired just as every other American's who didn't serve.
