The reasons for this are simple.. for many years in Japan, everyone had long hair, the men as well as the women. They tied it and braided it and used combs to style it when alive, but in death the hair is simply washed and let to lay its full length. The white shroud or kimono is how the dead are dressed for burial. So it is tradition!
