Thanks for the video I've found it and the comments insightful and encouraging.
I'm a junker and have a barn full of P-II & P-III machines. I played w/ Puppy & DSL awhile back - But, was on dial-up and Youtube was impossible- like being alone on a desert island. Still a pain due to being rural on old copper... But, I can watch one while the other tabs buffer... Am wanting to set up wireless network (WAN) share resources and chat farm to farm any ideas?
well someone told me it works ok, i can't go online wireless, It doesn't give me the option to search wireless signal, any tips? i have puppy linux 4.3.1 the most recent one.
You should really disable the updateing at boot time, if it slows down your system that much.
The thing about the games-> the developers cant put every game into the distro which single persons want (besides there is an Arcade Puppy Puplet which includes all sorts of emulators and stuff-> pretty cool for gaming even on your old Thinkpad :p)
funky music like it ! reminds me of the old nes for sum strange reason or an arcade... good video i am getting a ibm laptop tomorrow gona put ubuntu on it linux ftw
Hey how to do that live cd thing? Just download that Puppy Linux and then burn it to CD and last i need to launch it from CD? Or do i need to install it?
find and download an ISO image of the OS you wish to boot from; then use NERO or some other burning software, some are free that allows you to to burn an ISO image, burn and then boot. REMEMBER THOUGH WHEN YOU BURN AN ISO IMAGE NOT TO BURN IT AS A DATA FILE OTHERWISE IT WORK WORK. THE REASON WHICH I AM PRETTY SURE I AM RIGHT IS THAT WHEN YOU BURN THE IMAGE YOU NEED TO HAVE A FLOPPY IMAGE ON THE CD, SINCE COMPUTERS CAN TECHNICAL ONLY BOOT FROM EITHER AN HDD OR A FLOPPY. CD EMULATING A FLOPPY.
My little brother has a ThinkPad 390E with 32mb ram, it is a little low for any Linux i know (i tried Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux). Do you know a good place where i can buy cheap ram for this?
I have been using Puppy Linux 4 to rescue a desktop that had a failed ram module while I waited for a new one, It actually runs faster than xp and Ubuntu that were on it so I am leaving it there for now! LOL The musiuc reminds me of "the It crowd" show now I understand why!!
You can run Xubuntu on that???? I have a slightly faster hp pavilion and it's just tooooo slow to do anything. What version of Xubuntu do you run? My comp specs are 200mhz Pentium MMX processor 75-72mb of ram.
Newbs (ISO Recorder) is a real quick & easy tool to burn a iso in xp.his unique & great piece of software let's you make/record .iso images. Basicly it ads the abillity to record .iso images using the recording software that is allready built into windows xp. But it does not record dvd images, It only records .iso cd images. After you install it, just right click any .iso image & choose record & thats it. Enjoy! I have a link butgoofey youtube will not allow me to post a web address in this post
I Love this Distro because it is great for older computers, it breaths new life into them & it is so small that it runs in memory atleast while I am using the live cd. I just love Puppy Linux. The network connection configuration tool works better to me then the major distro's. People do not throw out your old pc's, just install puppy linux on it & you will feel like you are working on a 3GHZ intel duo.I know that is hard to believe, but just try it. You will be surprised how fast it is.Enjoy!

No problem - get a PCMCIA network card and you can run at least up to 10 Mbps.

When you get this "waiting time" for runing a init, press Cont + C...
This will kill this stupid process for updating none XD

I tried to get Damn Small Linux running on my 380 a few weeks ago. There was a partition error that prevented me from reformatting.

puppy Linux runs faster because it was made for slower computers/laptops, so it dosent use that much CPU and RAM.
