  • Is there nothing Eddie won't take on? Easily the most courageous musician playing today. Love you man.

  • beautifullest song in the world

  • yo dia frampton and blake shelton sing this song you should look it up i think their version is better

  • @motleycrue98 You should be ashamed of yourself, Blake Shelton should never be compared to Eddie Vedder!

  • @jwizzie23 i dont care what you think because you know blake shelton and dia frampton is ALOT better

  • @motleycrue98 We are gonna have to see where Blake Shelton is 20 yrs from now.....

  • @jwizzie23 i do think blake shelton isnt that good but dia come on she rocks

  • @motleycrue98 Ill keep this simple for you, Blake is like a can of corn, eddie is a cob of corn. The real deal is ALWAYS better!!

  • what a voice ! awesome ! You have taken my listening experience to a new level

  • Eddie rocks :)

  • I was there with my daughter and soon to be ex-wife. The old bag was ready to leave and sneak a call to her douchebag boyfriend thinking the show was over. I told her that we were staying and this song was my reward. Along with about 10 others.

  • @MixDiscJim Been there too...keep treating her with respect that will puzzle her not knowing how to react...do it for your daughter. Vedders voice is always rewarding, in my opinion one of the best and most unique voices in morden music history.

  • this is the stuff!

  • Sorry Tom Petty, looks like Eddie is putting your youtube videos out of business.

  • wow

  • pearl jam rocks at this song and this aint there either pearl jam rockssss

  • HONKY!!!!!!! PEARL JAM! UUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • fucking good

  • Petty's better............

  • lmfao fail @ 0:35

  • I was at this concert, Tom Petty was scheduled to play the next day and they were trying to get Tom to come down to the stage if I remember right.. Awesome show..

  • @thedsmguys 2005 was the show that Tom Petty was at this video is from the 2006 concert, I was at both concerts. the reason they did it again at the 2006 concert is because they didn't have copy write permission to put the first one on the concert bootleg CD.

    Hello Tom come down Tom!

  • Tom Petty got his ass kicked by Eddie on this song.

  • @k123332 agreed...

  • @k123332 lol Why cant ppl just enjoy the music? Why compare? Eddie, especially, look up to Petty so much! One can only hope to have the career and longevity like Mr Petty. Legend.. A Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer.

  • Im in total agrement with ya rolly, Ill even find another 11! 20 plus years and no one can even come CLOSE 2 the quality, emotion, and love of their fans. Thats why I have the stick man tatooed on my shoulder and show it with uttermost pride! Long live PJ!

  • is this considered sex?

  • Eddie Vedder covering Tom Petty... I must be in heaven.

  • @CoreyZ232 Or is he covering Johnny cash? =)

  • @Silentstoons I love Johnny just as much but Tom Petty did it first so you have to give him credit!

  • @CoreyZ232 Wait Tom Petty wrote this song? But Isn't Johnny way older? 0o

  • @Silentstoons Johnny was a little older but Tom Petty wrote this song in the late 80's and Johnny Cash started doing a lot of covers of rock type stuff around 2000. They're both fantastic though!

  • @CoreyZ232 I see, thanks for clearin that up for me. Love the Tom Petty version the most honestly =)

  • @Silentstoons fucking good men

  • @Silentstoons fucking good men i like both and this 1 fantastic

  • Anyone know where to find this? Available on iTunes?

  • @seamus22804 Hi just go to youtube to mp3.org and it will convert it for you...:)

  • I love the original Tom Petty version, as a massive Pearl Jam fan this made my day when I found out they covered it

  • laughindude28 johnny cash is dead. and he didnt write it tom petty did

  • I doubt Petty would mind with either of these two great covers. Vedder has a great voice and respects the song, while Cash....well he was Johnny Cash and that was all we need to say about him.

  • great song even better venue, for those who haven't been there its won best outdoor venue lots of times, seems to go back and forth between there and red rocks

  • This was another GREAT show... Too bad the Gorge has become so dam popular and so comercialized now... 100bux to camp in a dirt farm??? Still, this was a great show. Can't wait to see Phish again (last time I saw them in the Gorge was...99??98??? can't remember...must've had a great time then) this summer.

  • I actually learned to love this song once the one and only Ed Ved covered it in a cassette bootleg I got my first week of college in 95.

  • I keep coming back to this lol and playing it over! I had thought that Pearl Jam would be like a die-hard hardcore branch of Nirvana, Metallica etc. thrashin' about the place! But I've checked out other Pearl Jam songs on here and they're all pretty slow songs and pretty beautiful! ;) What Genre is this band will somebody please tell me lol!!

I had totally pre-judged them - mis-judged them, but from what I can gather it seems they are more along the lines of Radiohead n' R.H.C.P. .....

  • @Aintgotmine This is the beauty of Pearl Jam. Most bands that have a set genre have similarities in each song, which you can get tired of, but with Pearl Jam you never know what could come up next, they've done rock, hard rock, grunge, folk rock, alt. rock, but mostly types of rock. Because of this, I will never get tired of Pearl Jam!!

  • Wow This is superb!!!! Omg!! When I read Pearl Jam I was expecting a total hash - a total mess of the song with far too many guitars lol and I had to take a look!! But boy oh boy what a voice. Am so so pleasantly surprised here. He has an amazing take on it, really beautiful.

  • Daaamn Eddie, that voice...

  • was there. Hello Tom come down Tom

  • It depends on the day I usually cant decide which version I like better this one or Johnny Cash's. I know Tom Petty originally sung but Cash and Vedder are amazing on this song

  • Love all this pearl jam vintage live stuff

    thanks a lot

could spend hours watching this, and have on occasion :)

  • I like all GREAT SINCERE HONEST VERSIONS sung with spirit and believable stuff!!

I agree Johnny sung this great, but great's great and this is a great one!

  • very interesting, but Johnny Cash is a man never backed down

  • Eu tenho que admitir, não existe cantor como eddie vedder.

  • Vedder is GOD!

  • Now, this is the mood, goddammit!!!

  • Nunca habia escuchado esta version, me encanto

  • Brilliant<3!

  • Paying homage to Tom petty. Nicely done

  • I was there! I'm shocked this has so many views =) It was a mind-blowing show for me, because it was my first PJ show and the venue is immaculate!

  • Well Vedder is the better vocalist, but Petty penned the song... who cares?

  • "Hello Tom! Come Down Tom!"

  • FAIL!!!!!

  • This is the best thing I've seen since Rob Thomas singing in my living room! :) Thank you for posting this.

  • It just doesn't get any fucking better than this right here.

  • WOW another great vocal from Eddie!!

  • if u wanna hear another nasty cover of this song... search engloria wont back down...really good vocals

  • respect to Tom Petty for writing, but in my opinion Eddie is singing it far better than Tom AND IDC IF YOU PPL DISAGREE...EDDIE RULESSSS

  • Incredible version of a great song, words to live by, fantastic vocals as usual by Eddie Vedder. Thank you very much for posting. Very moving...

  • Pearl Jam Minha vida!!!! Minha saudade...

  • PERFEITO DEMAIS!

  • I love this man and everything his vocal chords are capable of.

  • I love this man and everything that his vocal chords are capable of.

  • lindaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • This. Is. Awesome.

  • This song, and especially this version kept me going on for many times. Thanks to Tom Petty, and thanks to Eddie Vedder, for singing what I am feeling

  • Hey_âÑyÕñE_wÃnNÃ_chát_wÏth_mé_I_fëÈl_sÒ_lÕNElÿ_tôdÂY♫

  • thank you tom petty for making a song eddie vedder can kick ass on

  • in my opinion this is better than the original by Tom Petty. Tom Petty is great artist, but i just dont like how he sings this song. doesnt really matter though because Johnny Cash trumps both Eddie Vedder and Tom Petty, with his version of this song, and with every thing else he ever did. the day Johnny Cash day was a very very sad day for the world.

  • what a beautiful song

  • there is Eddie and there is Tom... thanks God!!!! ;)

  • Jesus I got massive chills. Beautiful.

  • Eddie is a wonderful singer, and I love the passion he puts into every song he sings.

  • I don't think there is single cover that Eddie Vedder does that isn't badass

  • Why do people compare these artists, trying to determine who is better? That makes no sense at all. Obviously both of these artists have a tremendous respect for each other and each others music. This isn't a competition, it's a mutual admiration and respect, honoring the others work.

  • Probably the best thing I've ever heard in my life

  • wow! Better than the original, or Johnny Cash's....

would love to hear Eddie Vedder singing a full album of Tom Petty's greatest hits!

    Incredible singer...

  • @IGotARight its not better than johnny cash's faggot

  • All of you are wrong. I wrote and performed this song back in the day. I am just kind-hearted so am letting all the rest have the credit. So from the original artist, enjoy my song ;0

  • @jvaish I know what you mean, because it was ME that wrote this, and many others like it... no need to thank me!!!

  • @stutaggart It's ok...I'll let you have credit too

  • ouai déchire grave

depuis into the wild j te kiff

& pr les commentaires de pédale fait pas attention c'est des jaloux

  • good cover simple as that.

  • eddie's voice is way better then toms dude.. WAY better.

  • @kennedy1809 if tom petty hadent made this song, he would have never sang the song and you wouldent be able to say this unless tom petty sang it WHICH HE DID.....does that make sense? im sorry if it doesent haha

  • Or hit them with lady gaga"s nuts

  • I'd like to find the 11 people who could click dislike to this and beat them with a nicklenack CD.

  • @rollyhayhey the jerks are now 16! try beating them with a justin bieber cd!

  • Jeff Lynne (of ELO fame, among other) co-wrote the song, which they did in about 20 minutes.

  • it's true why compare?...Tom and Eddie are AMAZING!!

  • comparison is unnecessary and feeds weakness whether your on top or not.(unless competition is involved)

  • looks and sounds like a lion.

  • he looks like carrot top from a distance

  • They both have unique styles. Both are great

  • Yeah why even bother and compare?

But even comparing those 2 Eddie is by far better artist,

    Tom Petty who?

  • had the box set since it came out, this is the first video i've seen of any of it.!!! Awesome...wish i had the whole thing on video.!!!

  • I like Cash's cover the best.

    This one kicks ass.

and Tom Petty's is extremely epic too :)

I just kinda like Cash's version the best because it's most similar to the version heard in "Barnyard" which is where I heard the song first.

  • Stop fighting about wich song or singer is better, and start listening!!!

  • you kinda butchered the placing of the lyrics, you were probably drunk..haha...but the song was great nonetheless!!!!

  • I'm not the blind fan I used to be, but damn he's got a great voice.

  • man, would it just kill these guys to play this song with the whole band? damn.

  • @ mbshizzie: Exactly.

  • comparing is nonsense..I like 'em both in their ways

a cover always is a tribute to the original song

  • comparing is nonsense..I like 'em both in their ways

  • eddie puts tom to shame with this cover

  • As a professional musician for 28 years, in my opinion the version with Tom is superior. Notice, crazyhorseisdead, that this is my opinion. My opinion comes with almost 30 years of musical experience. Having such an opinion does not make me, nor anyone else, an idiot.

  • I think Eddie does better the Tom Petty

  • ten people are a complete idiots eddie is the best singer!

  • lets admit it both Eddie Vedder and Tom Petty are great singers but this song belongs to none other then the man in black himself Mr. Johnny Cash

  • @LaughinDude28 Johnny Cash did a god job on this song, but it's actually by Tom Petty. I believe from his first album.

  • @jasonpatzke first album? lol sorry. Free Fallin was on Pettys first solo album, in 1989, his bands first album was self titled in 1976

  • @LaughinDude28 INDEED

  • @LaughinDude28 ummmmmmmmm, no it belongs to Tom Petty because he wrote it!

  • @LaughinDude28 haahah hell yeah .

  • @LaughinDude28 I actually liked Tom Petty's better haha.

  • @LaughinDude28 i agree Johnny's was really flippin good, but nothing beats the original Petty version in my opinion, as little as that matters.

  • @LaughinDude28

Well. Tom Petty DID write it. . . . So technically, it belongs to Tom Petty. :P

Johnny Cash just did an amazing cover ;D

  • @LaughinDude28 Yeah, but both Mr. Cash and Mr. Vedder have to pay Tom Petty to sing his song - yes, he created the song!

  • 10 people backed down

  • @WHYSOSERIOUSIASKU LOL too funny

  • Wow, looking at his big muscles i thought it was Ani DeFranco at first ; )

  • @MrEllenwork YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Your posting is to be commended!

  • If my childhood had a sound, it would be Eddie's voice.

Many tried to copy him...none came close.

  • Tom Petty is probably pissed...

  • @craig1622

why would he be pissed? He loves Eddie Vedder, and his singing. They're good friends, and he praises Pearl Jam constantly. Know your music.

  • @lato649 It was a sarcastic comment cunt-nugget.

Plus lets be serious, Eddie's version isn't close to what Tom Petty's is...but that wasn't the point.

  • 10 people missed the LIKE button!!!!

  • Listen, I love Vedder, he's amazing but if you think this is better than Tom Petty's version you need to put down the crack pipe. Puhleeze!! The whole point of this song is to be uplifting, lot's of harmonies, sing it loud. He's singing this like it's a memorial service, doesn't fit at all.

  • i have this set

  • This is an amazing performance and better than the original!

  • Eddie `s good but tom petty is better in this song

  • omg good song :) lets hope they will buy it i will :)

  • omg he has an amazing voice im so damn jelous

  • This is a great version, Eddie is great singer. I enjoy the original, and I enjoy this.

  • check out Johnny cash and roy orbison..

  • i dont care tom petty is the shit!

  • The fact that Eddie sang this is a compliment to Tom, the fact that I listened is a compliment to Eddie.

  • If you honestly think tht eddie and jonny cash's version of this song is better then your fucking tone deaf. Tom Pettys voice kills Eddies! Pettys voice is untouchable.

  • Not about who's better/best, Eddie or Tom Petty's original. But this song - Eddie Vedder playing all by himself - is very moving. I heard him play this live in Missoula, Montana. It was very nearly a religious experience.

  • probably one of the greatest voices ever born on this planet

  • Awesome cover.. no doubt! No need to compare Tom/Eddie they're both Rock Gods with totally different styles. Each of them do what they do with pure balls to the wall passion and energy!!

  • not a big fan of pearl jam but great cover

  • the pearl jam cover of this song has got me through some tough times

  • @easyb13 **shakes hand** :)

  • Eddie Vedder is a vocal genius, but I can't believe one of the highest rated comments involves sayin Eddie is far better than Tom...... That's THE Tom Petty you're talking about, not some run of the mill artist.....the man has been legendary for the past 35 years...Eddie would be lucky if Tom started another supergroup and included him.

  • @mbshizzie Ill take Vedder over Petty's impression of a hillbilly Dylan anyday.

  • @mbshizzie I simply consider Vedder superior. However, it's a matter of opinion, as is everything else.

  • @mbshizzie LMAO

  • @mbshizzie lol tom has already had eddie on stage with him.......

  • @mbshizzie it's all personal preference. Tom is not factually better than Eddie, and Eddie is not factually better than Tom.

They're both tremendous vocalists, and it's up to the listener to decipher who's voice is more pleasing to their ears.

In my case, it's Eddie. ;)

  • @mbshizzie THE tom petty?//?///??/? We are talking about THE eddie vedder!!!!!!! One of the only bands to still rule after the seattle grunge scene!!!!!! So tip your hat and realise eddie is just as big a legend as tom petty!!!

    KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!!

  • @deanthehoff As soon as Eddie is around for 30 something years and sells over 60,000 million albums you can call just as big as a legend as Tom Petty

  • @GoAgs19

They'v sold over 60 milion records, and they'v been around for 20 years!

Still, no even worth comparing, but im still a jammer, to the core!

    Pearl Jam for live!

  • @mbshizzie actually my friend Johnny Cash played this song before Tom did and Johnny is the legend but im a massive Petty fan so im not dissin him he is the man, Tom that is

  • @LuthorJo I think you had better get your facts straight - Petty wrote and performed the song before anyone else - Cash covered many years later

  • this song is a religion

  • Well I won't back down

    No I won't back down

You can stand me up at the gates of hell

    But I won't back down.

  • I think I'll pull through now. Thanks, Pearl Jam.
