  • SERVICES WENT FOR THE DIGITAL PATTERNS MAINLY TO APPEAL TO THE NEW GENERATION OF VIDEO GAMES PLAYERS AS A RECRUTING GIMMICK. THE HUMAN EYE DOES NOT SEE IN PIXELS IT SEES IN TONES AND SHADES OF COLOR AND LIGHT, THERE ARE NOT SQUARE PIXELS IN NATURE. LATELY ARMY PEO AND UNIFORM BOARD HAVE BECOME NOTORIOUS IN FIELDING CRAP

  • @boric48 The pixels cause the human eye to lose focus at distances of 50-100 yards. That makes it harder to see the soldier distinctly.

  • I find this uniform to be to complicated. There are way too many pockets. Pockets on the shins, pockets on the legs, pockets for pens, pockets for patches, pockets for ID cards, pockets for magazines. Use a backpack.

  • i heard that one of the camos sticks out in infrared light...that true?

  • @xNativ3 Black color sticks out in IR, they removed that in the dev phase.

  • It's a shame that you can not roll up and cuff the sleeves like the old style BDUs on the ACUs. That's my ONLY gripe about them...

  • @thebrownguy79 From what I heard from one of my RSP cadre, they dont roll up the sleeves because its hard for the really buff guys to move their arms

  • ACU is not like thing. But i hope the new multicam will replace it soon..

  • I'm guessing its been 10 years since this guy has been to the field or done anything tactical outdoors. WHAT WERE THEY THINKINGthe acu has no tactical value except for convenience. thats it

  • Yes now the army is scraping it in favor of multicam

  • i think its cool they came up with something for desert /sand warfare, but with the light colored acu's, you will stick out like a sore thumb if we ever got involved in jungle or woodland type combat like korea or vietnam. would be better to keep the bdu's in the system so that they have something to fall back on if we ever did get into a jungle combat. and would be less costly too to have the soldiers keep thier bdu's on hand if they needed them, to be able to adapt to any situation.

  • Where can I buy this uniform?

  • The velcro allows a soldier to remove his rank in the event of capture

  • @LER77 That doesn't make a difference. The Geneva Convention requires a captured soldier to state their rank anyway

  • Am I the only one who loves the ACU pattern?

  • c'mon guys, It blends in very well with certain couches.

  • i think cadpat is the best even though they have to dffrent cadpats te clours are better

  • Honestly I don't even see why our military went with any digital pattern. Marpat may be a better camo than the army acu's but its still not as good as other non-digital patterns.

  • got to admit light tan would have been a better choice its like sand and some brick and considering all the pictures i have seen of the middle east

  • "Hey what is that grayish blob lying down over there, Muhammad?"

  • Seriously, what's with the Army sucking at picking out both combat and dress uniforms? The ACUs stick out like a sore thumb and the new service uniform they're phasing in look stupid as all hell. While I'm biased towards the Army, at least the Marines picked one uniform and stuck with it.

  • USMC bases its institutional survival on conning young people with pretty uniforms. When you realize marines don't do much and are low-skilled cannon fodder dress blues doesn't satisfy a professional.

  • @DriveByLawsuit

the uniforms works for urban fighting u think a green brown outfits hides soldiers in iraq or afgan better then the acu...

  • MARPAT still kicks #%& but for the Army I'd say Crye precision camo for Army infantry and ACU for Army Special forces/ warfighter troops

  • Not MARPAT woodlands; its got too much black in the pattern.

  • @dynmicpara Seriously man. How could you support the ACUs, but frown uppon MARPATs. The MARPATs (all 3 of them) work so much better than ACU. The US Army really needs to switch to MultiCAM. Soldiers wouldn't be dying daily if they did, because they would actually blend in.

  • @ArmyStrong285 I NEVER supported ACUPAT; this video is for informational purposes; READ THE VIDEO'S DESCRIPTION!

  • @dynmicpara check out ACU delta itll blend in more desert areas where clean ACU is meant more for urban war.

  • @LilATL94

yea marpat woodland is... bleh. like acu. 2nd rate.

the desert variant is excellent though.

multicam is being used now for Rangers and other SpecWarfare people, i believe.

i think the Brits wear a similar multicam pattern as well..?

  • if you shoot a human with 5x56 you will utilize what is called a controlled pair. No it's not a double tap. If you place a controlled pair into the clavicles and that human doesn't die, he is on drugs. Normal humans die when you sever the spinal cord. It doesn't require the .308 to kill an enemey. It does require the individual can shoot. Only someone who doesn't have to carry 210 (ABL) rounds plus the rest of their shit would say something like that.

  • I think MULTICAM

  • you would actually be really suprised how well it works in snow

  • yeah but it doesnt work in any other environment lol

  • You hit enemy with 5.56, he will be back eventually (most likely) 7.62 hits you and its game over!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not true. 7.62 rounds have a tendancy to puncture and as long as they do not splinter, they create a marginally larger hole out the opposite side.

A 5.56 does lack a little punch, but starts to tumble upon impact with can create greater internal damage that is deceptive due to no exit wound and a small entrance wound.

Coincidently, I love the 6.8 Nato round. We need more weapons that carry this caliber. Enough power for a knock down and more stable path, but small enough to tumble.

  • Damn, I oughta donate a few sets of Mossy Oak Brush pattern clothing to some military guys.

  • Great sentiment, but not greatly effective int he desert...they need a Scrub Dusty pattern!

  • ACU = ICU

  • Army is working on a new colored UCP called UCP-Delta, it contains brown pixels in addition of the original ones.

    but Multicam works better anyway.

  • Yep, and it is still horrible. Looks like I was hanging out with my two year old eating chocolate pudding while wearing my ACU's. We need a 2 uniform system again or at least a digitalized version of the multicam.

  • Digitalized Multicam would probally work the best. I wonder what It would look like...

  • Whooo the hell came up this new U.S. Army Combat Uniform??!

Last time I checked, we were fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan (Desert Tan Environment) , WHY THE HELL did they picked the color of the uniform: blue!?!!?!

it make US soldiers stand out!

I prefer the US Marine Combat Uniform (Desert Marpat), IT make sense to wear tan in a tan environment.

  • MARPAT was crap, allways is crap, and will forever be CRAP... Crye Precision Multi-Cam FTW! Marines have started using MultiCam.

  • Missing one....what about Korea. They really stand out on the DMZ!

  • Well, the ACU may not be such a good camo, but it looks pretty futuristic. Very good for movies and stuff. Imagine it in "I am Robot" for example. It would fit perfectly ;-)

  • The Army should have chosen Multicam instead of this ACU crap.

  • they do use the airborne is testing it in afganifstan

  • the way the army could make itself any more sniperbait is fitting them with bright pink clothing and puting a giant bullseye where the rank is supposed to be

  • i think the new US Army camo would work really well..... if you invaded an island that is completely covered by a meter of ash from a recent volcano eruption and/or perpetually has thick fog....

I wouldn't want to be in a combat zone with officer insignia on in that conveniently centered spot in the dead center of the chest...

  • Since when do soldiers have to buy their uniforms? WTF? I was issued my stuff back in the late 80's early 90's, when the change? That's BS, like an enlisted can afford the ACU on their lousy ass pay.

  • @M0LONLABE it costs 60 bucks for an acu last i heard

  • @M0LONLABE Enlisted get uniform pay to buy their uniforms, the officers are the ones that have to pay outright

  • if there's one area that ACU really really works well, it's in the rocky mountains of Afghanistan. I saw a picture in the net and for the freaking first time I saw the ACU worked! Aside from that, it sucks on desert and it will somewhat work on urban environment assuming the surrounding there is build on cement.

  • "If were going into combat were going to take all the patches off anyway" Thats bullshit I know many soldiers that have been bitched out and officially reprimanded for removing the patches.

  • BDU all the way.

  • As a soldier I actually kind of took a little preference in the new camouflage pattern. It doesn't look like it does us soldiers much during the day. But however the digital ACU makes a soldier blend in very well during the night. However I agree that I do not like using it during patrol and reconnaissance operations. Thats why Rangers don't really wear the digital ACU during a raid. The rest of the U.S. army is required to wear it though. Just another reason why I love my job.

  • Excuse me? Are you mentally deficient? Some of the biggest problems I as well as others have with the ACU are: It blends in with nothing except for gravel, it GLOWS IN THE DARK!!!!!, rank is on the chest, zipper on chest and buttons on the pants what the heck?, pants pockets are mostly useless because you can secure nothing.

  • (Enemy Sniper moving his scope along a field of grass) " Green...Green.. Huge blob of gray (ACU)..green."

  • ACU is a hard mattern too look at, you can;t aim a firearm right too someone wearing digital. its like if you get confused if you are in a ? vedio game or not in a vedio game? OVERALL (advance combat uniform is 100% grade A) the Army combat uniform sure is a more lower copy of it but there both basicly the same.

  • the idea of the marpat and acupat were copyed from the Canadian Cadpad! The U.S Goverment loved our uniforms when the saw them In Afganistan they copyed it.

  • Yes. It is True. The U.S. Military did copy CADPAT.but i must say the U.S.Army is on crack for making there Soldiers wear this ashtray junk called the ACU. You could not camouflage your ass under a hat with this junk they make these poor souls wear. The marines have if just about right. MARPAT is the way to go. I Just hope a they use there common sense this time and make sure the Army adopts MARPAT. Oh by the way the Marines can't Patent crap. All it takes is an executive order by The President.

  • MARPAT desert is OK, MARPAT woodland has too much black in it. Multi-Cam is better than both.

  • Yea, I really wish they would have used multicam, but Im good with wearing the ACU's.

  • looks like a chinese movie. (wink wink)

  • Im in the Army, and yeah, the ACU's in general SUCK! I like the idea of digital camo, but they could definately improve its look, color, and quality. "The government buys everything from the lowest bidder". So the ACU's suck. They tear in the crotch, quite often, the material is thinner, and less durable, the VELCRO though is mly biggest pet peeve, it's ok for a while, then it wears out, and it useless, not to mention, its not TACTICAL at all, it's so noisy to open, unlike the BDU's buttons.

  • how much dose one set cost?

personally I (who no nothing of camouflage) think from the looks of it the only thing it will blend into is the moldy stone walls of an english castle or something

    anyways thanks for serving

  • The main thing that is wrong with this uniform is the pattern/colors. It's so bad that I think the people that decided to go with this should be investigated for waste, fraud and abuse of Army money.

  • I dont get it, Does ACU's only come in the greenish colours? I mean, is there any Desert ACU's?

  • Its universal camo, its 50% desert, 50% woodland and 100% junk.

  • whats wrong with sew on patches?!! better than velcro!!

  • Having used a Military uniform which used Velcro I can say it actually works.

  • velcro patches, pockets and pin on skill badges and crocked pockets all suck.

  • Enemy one: "Is there a soldier over there?!"

    *Velcro rip*

Enemy two: "No, man, it's one of those Velcro using bushes. It's probably not getting into it's pocket to grab something to shoot us, No alarm here."

  • Green MARPAT works great because I play airsoft. But its true that all our troops on the frontline deserve the best. No matter what the cost is. Multicam FTW

  • i like BDU's better

  • I would really like to see a video comparing the five different patterns (ACU, DCU, BDU, MARPAT and MULTICAM) in different locations. COuld you guys at Field eXpedients do that, since the army apperently can't produce any real results? I was a big supporter of ACUPAT, but after watching this and your ACU Desert Camoflage Fix video, I might try to trade my ACUs for MULTICAM.

  • 11bravo lead the way.

  • Happy Birthday America, Keep up the Fire ! Pro Patria doughboy

11B All the Way Everyday ah ha.....

  • MAXWELLJJ writes:

"the only thing acu's blend with is gravel or concret... other than that it only works when you get really dirty and you can't actualy see the (gray) with looks blueish to me..."

  • Don't forget its uncanny ability to blend in with floral-patterned sofas! Just in case the might of the US Army needs to be deployed to grandma's livingroom.

Hate ACUPAT, love the ACU. Huge improvement over the BDU...except all that damnable velcro!

I have a set of TRU-Spec TRUs in OD for my humble civilian needs.

  • i personally like the dcus ,and to me the new acus suck they are thin and rip easly and you stand out like a sore thumb against anything thats in theatre. The only one that looks ok is what the MARINES have, they have the right color for and it looks like they got it right on that design.I dont understand why the army is trying to design one uniform for all areas its impossible! i would prefer the original tri cami 100%cotton agian, its much stronger and looks much nicer.

  • You mean the desert MARPAT seems ok...the woodland MARPAT has too much BLACK IN IT. Multi-Cam blends in better even in the desert than desert MARPAT or DCUs...but It'd be great if we stopped using ACUPAT ACUs and used DCUs until MC ACUs or a dry/wet area MC pattern reversible ACU were fielded

  • What is the Army Thinking. ACU. You guys actually think this ashtray Camo is going to fool the enemy in any environment. One Camo ACU Uniform for all environment. You guys are living in a dream world or the Army is Cheep because it doesn't want to field two Uniforms. I'm no fan of Marines and I'm Pro Army.C'mon stop the BS and Field American Soldiers with MARPAT. Multicam is to liglty shade to feild in Woodland environment or tropical Foliage. Change or it will take an executive Order.

  • digital is no good, multicam is far superior

  • The ACU is nice...its just the pattern i dont like...MARPAT and even CADPAT work much better.

and basically they are all ripping off of the german flecktarn...

  • I H8 the new ACUs! We need to have our name tapes sewn on and need to know who is an Infantry CPT vs a Medical CPT. and so on. The Uniform is o.k., but without all the stupid velcro. The pants' pockets don't stay closed, and they can hear us with the velcro. My ass litterally keeps hanging out the back of my ACUs. The stitching sucks. I want full leather boots back for the wet weather.

  • Full leather is fine as long as its TAN or BROWN and NOT BLACK and NOT TO BE SHINED. The rank/position of 1SG and SGM need to be abolished; either you keep learning about war and become an OFFICER or you are out. We don't need uniform nazis obsessing about vanities. Abolish the entire USMC to get rid of their living mannequins.

  • I hated these f*ing things. Supposed to be lighter so you can breathe but the fabric is weak as hell. Kindda funny to hear a full bird acting like he cares about how much it costs to sew stuff on a soldier's uniform. (And especially considering it only costs about 3 dollars to have your tags/patches sewn on.) Out now but I own a pair of USMC cammies. Love their pocket design. Also check out of the WW2 jump outfits. You'll see a lot of the same design principals. Interesting stuff :)

  • It dosen't work in desert enviorments like Iraq.

    Multi-Cam DOES work.

Soldiers are getting killed, this is stupid.

This "ACU" might work in urban enviorments, but I have seen people's pathetic attempt of trying to blend with this "ACU" in Desert and Forest envoirments.

  • i have three pairs of ACU for summer camp next, im excited...good thing i dont really have to be camouflaged

  • I use Digital(ACU) Camo when I play paintball, My tunic and pants were worn by a marine in iraq, there kinda faded and have some stains from sand/dirt, but is almost brand new lookign when washed. The digital pattern shows up blurred on old cameras, and confuses radar, in addition the digital pattern makes it so you blend in with everything because of how its painted, I thought it would be stupid too but almost half my team wears it and swears by it over woodland.

  • You mean worn by an Army Soldier in Iraq---the Army not the USMC wears ACUs.

  • pros: excellent pattern. the USMC version blends in very well (please note that i am not saying the COLORS are good.)

works in SOME arid environments (keep in mind SOME)

    um...yeah

    cons:

    ridiculously expensive

soldiers complain about being easily seen and hear. (silouettes your figure so more easily seen)

4 times the shorter lifespan as the older BDUs

    crotch section nearly always rips.

velcro is useless after about 4 washes

THOSE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE PROBLEMS TOO!!!!!

  • face it the ACU uniform sucks. just search around on google and you'll find that nearlly every soldier who blogs hates them.

  • I agree, ACU is good for 1 purpose and thats room clearing. The ACU makes us stick out and we will always be the first ones shot. The US Army should of created a digital multi-cam instead of this ACU shit because it is inefective 75% of the time.

  • They actually work real well in the dark.

That's about the only thing, but making everything velcro is retarded.

Like the cargo pocket velcro. If you put something heavy in it, it won't stay closed.

Plus the pull strings on the cargos break.

    I've had pockets stuck shut.

The pin on shit is a pain and will grind into you if you pick something heavy up.

    These things suck

  • survivalexpert writes:

"acu are gay...its grey cmon, grey is not cammo ull be the first fuckers shot at cuz some taliban saw ur grey ass walking around in the dark"

  • Heh multicam, Those digital trees have now found their match! :D At least the Col. has a pair of jump wings.

  • i hate fucking pogs. we neeed multi cam, because as a grunt i need somethin affective, acus are garbage.

  • the cool thing about ACU is that it can 'change' color.

in dark lighting, the ACU changes from 'blue' to almost dark green.

but in LIGHT lighting, the ACU stays 'blue'.

  • Too bad the earth isn't blue on land.

  • thats bullshit no piece of cloth can change colors and i consider it a very light grey(not cammoflauge)

  • um...wow. ever pay attention in science class?

you are partially correct though. i have never heard of a color that changes color

HOWEVER a color can appear to be a different shade when put in certain lighting conditions and what color the object, plants are around you. thats why whenever you see pics of soldiers wearing the ACU they're either gray, green, blue, turqoise, or whatever.

in the end though...you're still gonna be a walking silhouette depending on what environment and stuff

  • dude the stuff is so crappy, not even some of our specialty units (berets, delta, ranger ect.) use them.

"but it goes from blue to dark green in dim light" so what. that still means your a big blue spec sitting in the friggin desert.

  • kangsham writes:

"army camo dont blend wit shit but a gray wall"

  • leave it to the army to invent camo that DOESN'T BLEND INTO ANYTHING.

  • ACUPAT is good for day camouflage in the SKY during a parachute jump provided the T-11 is light blue-gray....Multi-Cam would be better

  • I like army camo better then Marine

  • i heard the ACU melts onto your skin b/c it's 50% nylon and that the durability is shit with these uniforms.

what are your takes on the CADPAT (new Canadian uniforms)? i think they're really good for specific environments (forest/jungle, desert) but cross over factor isn't the greatest.

  • If you go to our web page combatreform dot com slash bdufixes dot htm you will see that we have urged the Army to use REVERSIBLE camouflage uniforms to get universal camouflage in TWO patterns instead of trying to do it in one; Multi-cam comes close to working in all regions but obviously a DRY area and WET area camo like CADPAT has on a reversible ACU with better abrasion and fire-resistant fabric would be better.

  • I think reversible camo uniforms are not being embraced even though they would be functionally best because you can squeeze more $ out of Congress supplying 8 uniforms per Soldier than just 4 that reverse. Bad for the racket.

  • multicam was the best choice, preston fucked up... the army looks stupid in kem light looking uni with velcro and ZIPPERS! stop the maddness and change this over priced bull shit asap...

  • this is what happens when you get wal-mart to design your uniforms

  • LOL, I thought Wal-Mart would do a better job because they at least act on what their customers (users) need. The Army/Mc are BUREAUCRACIES run by 3-star generals who think they are an aristocracy that are above the law (human and laws of physics) and FACTS of reality.

  • Professional organizations would do the due diligence of finding out the TRUTH about any situation and then acting on what's BEST not what racketeers the most $ from Congress or feeds the boss's ego. The ACU's camouflage and material is faulty.

  • good thing Special Forces don't have to wear this shit, cept maybe on post. Another retard move by Big Green. Multicam ftw.

  • digital is no good, multicam is far superior

  • The new Green Marpat is ugly, I hope the USMC changes soon. I hope they switch over to multicam. Woodland was good too.

  • Prefer original Canadian Pattern

  • ditto that my brother. marpats tight too.

  • GREEN MARPAT stinks and has too much BLACK in its pattern. MARPAT TAN is OK for dry areas. Be precise.

  • relax. i like the way it looks, thats all.

  • YOU can relax, YOU are not getting shot at or being blown up because of bad camouflage giving the enemy an easy aim point. I like how runway models look but I don't say Soldiers should wear plunging neckline nightgowns into battle, either. American vanity mentalities like you express need to be discarded for FUNCTION.

  • I will agree with you that Multicam is awesome and it should be used, BUT I do not agree that Marpat is terrible. IMO only, I think there is not a very good balance of colors, but I think the black is fine. This WAS written with the Soldier's well being at heart, I agree that Multicam should be the standard, although I do think there should be multiple BDU's/ACU's for the military.

  • the military brass dosen't give two shits about what the soldiers think. they just spend and expect everyone to like. it's typical of our day and age everything is cheap. the new uniforms are trash compared to the old ones. the skill pins get in the way, the uniforms all stick together in a massive ball when you wash them and they look worse when you wear them. millions for crap!!

  • pattern works great, but they cost too frickin' much. I had to replace an entire marpat uniform for $90 pocket expense because I actually did get shot at and I got dirty wearing it... Frickin' stupid.

  • There are too many dead marines because MARPAT does NOT work well enough--but your cost issue is right-on. The answer is to reverse a dry and wet area camouflage on one BDU or use an universal camo THAT WORKS like MULTICAM and then the number of uniforms goes down by 50%

  • BullShit.

Woodland is the bost for woodland

MArpath is the best for jungle

ACU is th best for cities and mounts in the Afgansitan. Nobody can speak .... is the best camo ever. Sorry about my english

Ou i totally forget. airosft is only game ... lets go to army.

  • Its not your english thats BS; its your content.

Green MARPAT has too much black in it, ACUPAT too much green in it to work in TAN MOUT/urban/city/FIBUA Iraq/Afghanistan.

MULTICAM is superior at blending the Soldier in with his surrounding colors in all climes & places to all the above--and woodland camo.

  • YES could not say it better myself HOOAH!!!!!!!

  • I agree. But BDU woodland is the BEST EVER!!!.

Why-because it has the best looks and blends in.Fuck MARPAT,MULTICAM,ACU and all other shit

  • BDU woodlands is ok for green vegetated areas but you should go look at MULTICAM and see how amazing it is at really making one invisible by blending in.

  • Went to Iraq and Afghanistan in ACU's. It's trash in almost every aspect.

  • i know, if you watch vis were soldiers wearing acu in a forest sticks out so bad, i mean they say theres green in the uniform but like i said i have it and it doesnt really look like green it looks like a dark grey, the army should have made a uniform were its like one side is acu for urban and cities, and the other side of the bdu(in other words turn it inside out) like reversible, and multicam is on the other side for desert and woodland

  • Last airsoft match I was playing at, I was wearing MARPAT, which worked wonders, though, I wish they used a dark brown rather than black on the uniform. The opposing team was wearing the camouflage shown in this video. Up where I live, we have a lot of grey vegitation during the fall, and birch tree's. So, Acupat worked somewhat well, but, its still awefully bright, its function to take in light and color of its surroundings obviously fails. I still dont see why the americans use this.

  • only two words.

    German Flecktarn.

providing since 80s an excellent comouflage for German troops.

and take also a look about the Italian Vegetata, simply fantastic.

to stay in theme I hope that U.S. Army will adopt the MarPat for all of the ground troops.

  • MARPAT sucks, plus it means two uniforms one for wet areas, one for dry...MULTICAM is better

  • Even the WWII precursers to flecktarn worked very well in the European environment they were designed for. The Germans, though wrong politically, thought of everything =P

I still am a huge fan of Multicam. It blends in perfect in my area of Florida where we have alot of half dead plants and sand/clay. But MARPAT woodland works great too, there are other places with decidious looking plants that are dark green and need a dark green camo. Granted, 1980's woodland would probebly work there too.

  • i play airsoft, and our teams main camo is the ACU, and the only places i have seen it work good is in places of the utah desert with sage brush, and cqb, but in places like colorado, the dry forests out side of denver our acu sticks out, i like the new army combat uniform should have been multicam, much better

  • Great feedback! Planet Earth is Planet Earth. Your experiences and observations are important and valid. Don't let anyone say otherwise.

  • I have ACU on one of my vids (I like it its like urban desert)

  • The ACU pattern is fine. It's the material that sucks. Keeps ripping

  • ACUPAT is fine for getting Americans killed if that's what you want. Material is too soft and needs to be stronger.

  • not bad, but i really don't see what sort of environment this would be good for other than urban

  • MULTICAM ACUs are what we need. Go to the web page in the video description for details.

  • i had never heard of multicam before this. it kicks the ACUs ass for sure

  • Have they tried magnets stitched into cells in the front closure of the shirt/coat, in lieu of the velcro? Would the magnets demagnetize in the washing machine, is the question, I guess. Would the magnets interfere with equipment, like the compass?

None of these people know how to design camouflage! They have no idea what they're doing, just as with the many designs for tire and sneaker treads.

  • it would interfere with a lot of stuff radios, lights, comm equipment, possibly even the attachsments for the m4 or m16
