It's heart wrenching the way you see her wanting to reach out to Ennis to recognise him as her son's lover, but she holds herself back because of her husband's homophobic attitude. Her silent but powerful acceptance of Ennis is reflected in the way she unquestioningly lets him have Jack's shirt and invites him back again.

She didnt say a word but you could see it all over her that she longed to hug the piece life that her son had left behind. I always felt that she knew. I love this movie so much. Ang Lee outdid himself with this one.
