if the French used canister shot, the whole British brigade would be destroyed within seconds. That's what I would have done at such a close distance.
@PolkaDotPapillon Try telling that to Sean in many of his other films, such as Black Plague and Game of Thrones. I think that this series makes up for his deaths in multiple other films.
I can't understand why men fought so hard to keep women dependent on them, into the middle of the 20th century .. with marginal education & income potential. Look at the golddigging shrews that produced .. they only viewed men for support, and were happy to become totally dependent on "the highest bidder". Eeew!
If sharpe had killed ducos then we would have no story. Thus UK Hollywood deemed it necessary for him to live. By the way I don't know how ducos is still alive after being shot in the back by that French soldier in an earlier episode.
@duckhunt1045 I agree. Why would Sharpe let him live with all this history they have together? Sharpe knows he's a high up in the french echelons. / I know I'm being petty but why did Sharpe stop the battle? / And Ross shouldn't have gooded Wigram(sp). I would think a good commander doesn't set his men against each other and I'd be angry too if Ross said something like that to me about the person I was seeing. / I like this french general but the other was better. You?
its a british military custom to have bayonets, we had them in ww2 when the germans had spades and we still have them. ever since the flintlock came out we have had bayonets.
hold on i thought General Calvet was executed in a few series before? when he followed Duco's orders to fight sharpe and failed? Sharpe's Siege isnt it? at the end when General Calvet lost? i thought i heard sweet william said that calvet is dead?
why does the hard working hobbes have to die i mean he was the hero of the day: p hahaha and poor Ross suddenly wants to play regiment leader and gets injured haha
Boy they sure like their claret!! In almost every episode, someone asks for it. I looked it up.
Claret derives from the French clairet,[1] a now uncommon dark rosé and the most common wine exported from Bordeaux until the 18th century. It is a protected name within the European Union, describing a red Bordeaux wine, accepted after the British wine trade demonstrated over 300 years' usage of the term.[1]
@mymagnoliatree Here is a quick rundown. British money: 1 pound = 20 shillings 1 shilling = 12 pence 1 pound = 240 pence 1 guinea = 21 shillings This is some example pay amounts for the British Army around that time frame for Infantry (rounded to nearest pound because I'm being lazy). Private 18 pounds/yr Sergeant = 28pounds/yr Captain = 171 pounds/yr Colonel = 410 pounds/yr He has about 10,500 pounds in his account (rather rich).
still duco was a spymaster that had personal contact with the elite of boneys regime if not boney himself. it doesnt matter what phase the war was, capturing him would have been prestigious for sharpe and a major coup for the war effort. if not for useful intel. then def, for propaganda.
I do hate it when people come on here and watch Sharpe and then moan its nothing like the book. I am reading the books and watching the series and I see them as two different things, as they should be seen. For starters one starts with Sharpe's Rifles and the other Sharpe's Tiger. Two different things. So please can you stop moaning about it? Thank you. We all love Sharpe. xx Well done the person who put all theses up. xx
Sharpe should have known. One Gibbons is exactly like the other. He hated the brother, who was a coward and a sly sneaking wretch. The sister is nothing different.
Concentration of musket balls that'd actually hit something, as well as for the morale bonus. Columns and Lines are still used today by Riot Control Police and it works.
riot police formations are more based on greek falanxes. they catch the disorganised mob on their locked shields and the lot holds while watercannons hollow the mob out
I also read somewhere that if you had a large group of men bunched together and in red it was difficult for the opposite side to judge how many troops they face accurately
Like Nurdbot says, muskets are wildly inaccurate, so you need a lot of them, firing three rounds a minute. That's why the rifles are skirmish troops, and can scatter while still doing damage.
Ducos, Jane and Rossendale all disliked this... :D

As he is an officer he could have procured his own by either purchaseing it or as battle loot.
MIT1369 3 years ago
That is the standard issue weapon for a light company officer, sharpe refuses to have one since he finds them akward to weild in combat.
