Funny or not, what I'm about to say is serious. As Memorial Day draws near, let us remember those who gave their lives for us. That seems to be lost on some people. A child was asked what Memorial Day meant and she said that's the day the swimming pool opens. Sad. On April 1, 1945, my uncle was killed in action in Germany. I never got to know him, but I will always appreciate his and everyone's sacrifice from the Revolutionary War to today. Thank you.

I have been attending the Aiken, SC Memorial Day Parade. Here in SC, a lot of parents are upset that schools don't close for this day. No one should lose sight of what this day means.
