Jerry founded the band and Layne didn't contribute shit to the VAST majority of the songs on AIC albums with the exception of We Die Young and maybe a couple more. Point being, dude's addiction was alot of baggage for the band after the Jar of Flies album and I'm glad Jerry didn't let Layne's death destroy the "sound" we all love.

William DuVall was a friend of the band before he was asked to take over as the lead singer...they didn't hold a tryout or put a show on CBS or try to replace Layne Staley. There will never be another Layne, but DuVall has an amazing voice and fits well with Cantrell's harmonies. I like the old AIC, but I also like the new AIC, and people need to let go of the past and evolve with the music or shut the eff up.

i miss Layne (the old singer) and he is irreplaceable but this new guy sounds good (i also miss Mike (old bassist)) and the new songs sound good....i didn't think grunge could exist in 2009/10/11.......but Alice In Chains have proved me wrong....cant wait to hear more music from them
