I love my Glock 27, its an incredible firearm for C & C. The only thing is that when I take it to the range i always fire 2 boxes and the size and power deff take there toll on my hand. but honestly you get used to it. I also have the 26 its the 2 tone special edition and also a beautiful weapon. you are a great shot and a key authority on firearms, I love all your reviews, you know your stuff. Ohh Raa!

Granted, if you happen to kill then, good for you. It will be one less perp that gets to rot in our worthless correctional system. Getting back to the topic at hand. A Glock is a Glock, whatever caliber is your favorite, is up to you.
Glock 26, Glock 27, I think Hickok45 says is best, shoot what you are comfortible with. I am a seasoned shooter, blown thru 1000's of rounds in 9mm, 40 cal, and 45 cal. But as a carry gun i grab for my Glock 26, it fits my hand the best and i am extremely accurate with it. I do like other calibers just as much, and i wish that the 9mm had the stopping power of a 40, or 45, but in most if not all classes i have sat in for concealed carry, they say shoot to stop, not kill. (continued above)
I have a .45 RIA 1911 model, and am looking for something a little more modern even though the 1911 is timeless, figured id keep tradition with a bit of modern ingenuity, this vid will help me out decide between a .40 caliber glock and a 9mm caliber, thanks
@ bomber19421,9 mm has been out way before .40s. All the black talon hollow points that got banned were 9mm.I think you have a better selection of hollow points in 9mm and you can get them in +p+ and have more power than a .40 and more capacity!!
My first gun is a G19. I got a G26 for Christmas. Honestly, I like shooting the 26 as much and maybe more than the 19. Not sure why but I agree! Love my 26!
Isn't it funny how a guy comes on here (bomber) and calls everybody idiots and gives us all advice like he's the only one that can comprehend anything. There's a guy with a dinky dink.
You talk about the difference in recoil with .40. I've noticed in my model 23 that the different ammo available recoils very differently. Some is easy-cheesy, some stings my hand. Speer Lawman is pretty hot, also my handloads ! Win White-box seems easy-cheesy. I plan to get a model 27 some day... The 26 will arrive in a few days, the wife and I both wanted a 26 for awhile...:)
This is favorite worthy! Great job as always Hickok45. In your hands, the 27 appears to recoil like a 9mm. :) Hope to get me one of those in the near future.
All of you have taken my comment out of context... Any ways if the .40 S&W And the 9x19mm Where the same price the Military would pick the .40S&W due to stopping power.... P.S. I have yet to hear of a 9mm Holopoint round.
At 5:40 I would have been like damn you and thrown my glock 27 at it because glocks are that bad ass but I like the HK P2000 and HK USP because of the larger grips and round cap.
I have an older 3rd. gen G27 that I love. One thing I would like to change "if possible" is the loaded chamber indicator deal is smooth on mine and newer ones have that little raised notch... Is that something that I could just order and switch to the newer style?
The only Glock he does not seem to like is the G36. Had one and traded it in. G23/27 are his top if the top. G23 if anywhere but MA or CA (or NY ...did they change the restrictions there?. If limited to 10-rounds, the G27 is his choice.
For all the idiot armchair commandos out there commenting on what's the better caliber....shoot what youre most effective with, because in the end a hit is 100% more combat effective than a miss. Shot placement shot placement!!!! If you can't effectively shoot at least a 10in group at a RAPID pace (not benched, static, or slow!!), then you need to consider other calibers. Most of the people here wouldn't be able to get shots on target in a high stress scenario. Less than 1% of legal handgun own
@AFD176 I must say that I somewhat agree. IMO The Gen1 and Gen2 full sized Glocks are goofy looking. Don't get me wrong, they set the standard for modern pistols, but.... Just weird looking. I like the Gen3's and Gen4's in terms of looks.
The Glock 25(.380ACP) is the same size as a Glock 19. So no real benifit of owing Glock 25 vs a Glock 19. Golck just makes the 25 for countries that have outlawed the 9mm luger for civilian use.
@jazzman07 You will love the G27. It quickly passed my LC9 & PF9 as my favorite carry gun despite the bigger size. Its a little bit of a handful to, but doesn't sting my hand at all like the PF9.
nice video. you are by far the best gun reviewer on the youtube in my opinion. i have fired the glock 27 .40 cal and i dont care for the small grip to much however it did feel pretty good after a mag or two. I dont have a problem with the recoil from the .40 i guess because im used to shooting .45 acp. great video thanks again.
Gunaholic here, Just a update, all over youtube one can find a knock or smear about any brand, and I have four brands and eight different models. My most recent a S&W 638 has a bad laser grip, CT replacing it. My Gen 4 Glock had a #03 spring, Glock replaced it, My 380 bodyguard had to soft laser switch bumps. S&W replaced them. All That said, any problems are quickly corrected by the makers. So buy what you like, and most new releases has a bug or two, no problem. Join NRA. Support gun rights.
I noticed you have large hands as I myself have too, my question is does it bother you shooting these little (baby glocks) pistols? thinking about picking up a 26 myself. thanks for any help you can offer. great video.
@thingthingmaster51 That is a Gen 4. Note that in the first frame in the video, you can see the seam where the interchangeable backstrap is mated to the frame. Although even the HD version of the doesn't show it so clearly that you can read it, the Gen 4 are the only generation that will have "27 Gen [x]" on the slide, as can also be seen in first frame of the video.

Glock aholic here. However got more gun fever lately. And now have a S&W 380 Bodyguard, S&W 38 snub with a laser grip. a Walther P-22 and on order a Beretta XP4 subcompact 19 mm. and a old Charter Bulldog 44. four Crimson Trace Laser grips. Laser Max Micro, and a Insight Laser I guess I am hooked again. The Glocks 19, 23,26. Guns are us.Was going to buy a Glock 27, instead I purchased the Beretta 19 sub compact. Guns are great, Join NRA today, save our rights to own guns from the Anti Guns crowd.
@MrNikoBellEnd .40 cal by far. more powder, more knockdown power (cuz of a bigger diameter), and and shoots faster. it has more recoil but very manageable.
im looking to buy my first conceal fire arm and im liking the glock 27, ive looked it up and i see that with a lone wolf modification the barrel can be swapped out to convert it into a 9mm.. thanks for the vid.. very informative

I've used a G27 as a carry gun for a few years now and I love it.
I just picked up the Lone Wolf Conversion barrel (to 9mm) from Cheaper than Dirt and it works great. It's like getting a G26 for about $130 (barrel's around $100 and I picked up a 9mm mag). Since 9mm ammo's cheaper than .40 cal, I should actually save money in the end.
Get the G27 & the Lone Wolf barrel and you'll have the best of both worlds!
@TheOneAndOnlyTbone Really? everyone does it. It's effective and you're most likely training for self defense. If you have to defend yourself in an open firefight and you're reloading, are you going to pull the slide back, then press the the slide catch down? No. In tactical shooting classes they teach you to use the slide catch.
@Kurosaki2Ichigo9 well, not press the release down, but yeah, alot easier to press it down without pulling the slide back as it can be done with one hand.
26, 19, 17, 21SF. Love them all. Carry the 26 24/7. Shoots like a dream. Wife likes shooting the 26 the most. Hickok is the best. This is the best channel on youtube for firearms discussion. RON PAUL 2012!!!
@hickok45 I have a question about this subject. I learned to use the slide release to reload. And now I see lots of gun vids on youtube where people don't do that. Are my thirty four years of training wrong???? Should I start using my hand to pull the slide back instead? And if so why? (sounds like a good topic for a Hickok45 video!
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams I am not Hickok but I can still give you an answer. Firstly, you need to be aware that there are two divergent trains of thought on this; those who prefer to use the slide release (myself, LAV, and others) and others who prefer to rocket the slide back. The reason some prefer to pull slide back is that not all pistols reliably lock to the rear after the last round and pulling the slide back each time you reload with the slide locked negates this to a degree.
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams One problem with pulling the slide to the rear is that on pistols with slide safeties (92FS/M9) this can cause the safety to be accidently engaged. In my opinion this is a bigger problem than the slide not locking back, but it is only a major issue for those of us who use or are issued pistols with slide safeties.
@TheOneAndOnlyTbone And can you explain exactly how it's harmful to the gun? Worried about wearing out the slide catch? It's a terribly expensive part after all.
Went and shot my G27 for the first time and kept getting slide lock with rounds still in the magazine. Not sure if I was the cause or simply a malfunction of the gun. Any thoughts Hickok
@excelerater IF YOU WANT PROOF WALK INTO A LOCAL SHOOTING RANGE THAT RENTS GLOCK. RENT ONE, AND WITH THE SLIDE OPEN SET THE GUN ON ITS SPINE AND JUST LET IT FALL TO EITHER SIDE. THE FUCKER WILL MOUSETRAP EVERY TIME BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE USE THE SLIDE "RELEASE" (CALLED THE SLIDE LOCK IN THE MANUAL, NOT A SLIDE RELEASE) THAT IT WEARS DOWN THE ANGLE ON THE SLIDE WHERE THE SLIDE LOCK SITS.
@TheOneAndOnlyTbone why is that? i only do it that way in ipsc shooting, cause its much faster and you just need one hand? did you have bad experience with it? i never had...
I didnt think you were a Glock butt plug guy? Whats with the plug in the G26?
I just have a hard time understanding why so many people put aftermarket parts on a piece of machinery that is perfect right out of the box. I almost understand the grip tape since your hands are so large.
Keep the butt plugs for the ladies bro! (Kidding) I love my G26! See ya on the Glocktalk fourms.
Do you catch any flack from your coworkers? Academia is so full of gun-haters, I'm a little surprised they haven't tried to ostracize you.
Just to irritate them (the haters), you could take the kids on a field trip to the Hickok Comound and teach them to shoot. Maybe Ruger would loan you some 10/22s ?
@claudiolemes i think you mean do some videos with some kind of rifle thats set up for long distance shooting. sniping is a style of shooting just to let you know not trying to be a butt
the .40 will have more "snap" cause it is a hotter load then 9mm, unless your using 9mm +P and +P+ loads cause they are hot loads are going to be "snappy" !
Greg, I really have to credit you with being the man who got me off the fence about Glocks. I never really "disliked" the design and unlike so many, I always thought it was a nice-looking gun. My only issue with the gun came to light when you were talking about how many people want to be "free-thinkers" and search for a gun that's more unique to avoid being a "sheep." You were so right, and I've since found myself openly admiring the design and wanting one for myself. Thanks for the wisdom!
I owned a G27 and absolutely loved it. Recoil was not bad... then again, recoil is never bad if you hold a gun properly. Hickok, why don't you share a "grip tips" video with the fans??
@hickok45 Thanks for making this great video. IMO, the .40S&W is a bit too powerful (recoil) in a subcompact package. I find the 9mm is the perfect chambering in a pistol that I can hold onto only with two fingers. I agree with everything you said about the G26. Very shootable! Love it. Got my G23 for the big 'ol .40 blast! Keep making great videos. We luv ya!
@hickok45 The main thing that has put me off about the Glocks are those finger grooves in the grip. My fingers are too big for those grooves. However, I see that you are using some kind of grip on your Glocks to mitigate that. What kind of grip is that? Also, what magazine holster are you using?
Yo Hick I heard you shouldn't reload with polymer guns. Guy that told me is the instructor that does my armed gaurd. He blew his XD slide with reloads
@VinnyS914 Glock says not to use reloaded ammo in their guns, but it's just to cover their butts since they can't regulate reloaded ammo. Reloads are all I shoot in my Glocks. Guns blow up with reloads from accidental overcharges or double-charges. Just had a friend do that. It's not hard to do if you're distracted. Polymer guns are just as safe as steel guns with ANY ammo. If a cartridge was overcharged to the point that it would blow up a polymer gun, it would also blow up a steel gun.
dude u r one helluva shot..very awesome video. im a gun enthusiast unfortunatly i dnt have many guns or a great place to shoot but u are my insperation to be able to have many guns and a great facility indoor/or outdoor to shoot.
Have you ever looked at the GAP ENTERPRISES magazine base. It's the best upgrade for a sub compact glock I have ever come accross. Sure tames the snappy little glock 27 without adding any length to the grip. Check em out. I would love to see you us them in one of your vids.

The Challenge folks seem to be really proud of their target. It's priced the same as Action Target's Dueling Tree. If I was spending $400 I'd go with the Dueling Tree.
@rufus18420 Most of us hate those damn extenders. There not needed at all and I find the grip is even better without them, and it makes the gun small which, oddly enough, is why I bought a small gun. Go figure. I believe Hickok feels the same way as most people who shoot the baby Glocks on a regular basis does.
Hickock45 is just the most amazing and trustworthy gun reviewer on the internet. What an amazing review. I knew several guys who have bought Glocks after seeing his reviews.
Nothing personal or even bias, but I grab the 226 cause I like the GUN? I think its like smokes, most smoke Marlboro just cause too, but we prefer Cuban cigars just cause? Me sleep with a ACP lucky strike under the pillow? And I'm making a video of my V Tac S&W M&P 9 to show my appreciation of the brothers of the brethren court that have been directed by the fast and furious watch me shoot my 22LR's? How come Little Sir John, doesn't grow a long long beard?
@TheChamberofFarts I'm stupid and high. What's your excuse? Have a brain fart? What ever Hickok45 said on his channel page, same answer. I did, found out your 31? 31? 31? NO please, shoot me, 31? Sure your not 4?

which is more lethal a 40cal or 9mm round?
MrNikoBellEnd 8 months ago
@MrNikoBellEnd .40 cal by far. more powder, more knockdown power (cuz of a bigger diameter), and and shoots faster. it has more recoil but very manageable.

Awesome videos. My EDC is a G27. Where is a good place to get glock mags at reasonable prices? Thanks.
Jay626j 8 months ago
love the videos, hickok, but the smallest glock that Glock makes is the Glock 36, it's the subcompact single stack 45.

@SlowMOtionPotion816

@TheOneAndOnlyTbone
Y'know, it's easy for a company to manufacture a gun with no external slide release.
Now, why would they intentionally put a slide release on the outside with little grip serrations that make it easy to operate with your thumb?
IronVinyl 8 months ago
@TheOneAndOnlyTbone Gammy's gettin' upset!
The1CamBo 8 months ago
@TheOneAndOnlyTbone Really? everyone does it. It's effective and you're most likely training for self defense. If you have to defend yourself in an open firefight and you're reloading, are you going to pull the slide back, then press the the slide catch down? No. In tactical shooting classes they teach you to use the slide catch.
Kurosaki2Ichigo9 8 months ago
@Kurosaki2Ichigo9 well, not press the release down, but yeah, alot easier to press it down without pulling the slide back as it can be done with one hand.

Nine, for many reasons. 1) NATO round. Commonly available. Proven. 2) Original design of Glock was for the 9mm. 3) Capacity.

you should do a review on the elephant gun! that would rock my socks off : )
Gandor83 8 months ago
@hickok45 I have a question about this subject. I learned to use the slide release to reload. And now I see lots of gun vids on youtube where people don't do that. Are my thirty four years of training wrong???? Should I start using my hand to pull the slide back instead? And if so why? (sounds like a good topic for a Hickok45 video!
SmokeRingsPipeDreams 8 months ago
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams I am not Hickok but I can still give you an answer. Firstly, you need to be aware that there are two divergent trains of thought on this; those who prefer to use the slide release (myself, LAV, and others) and others who prefer to rocket the slide back. The reason some prefer to pull slide back is that not all pistols reliably lock to the rear after the last round and pulling the slide back each time you reload with the slide locked negates this to a degree.
V1per321 8 months ago
@SmokeRingsPipeDreams One problem with pulling the slide to the rear is that on pistols with slide safeties (92FS/M9) this can cause the safety to be accidently engaged. In my opinion this is a bigger problem than the slide not locking back, but it is only a major issue for those of us who use or are issued pistols with slide safeties.

@TheOneAndOnlyTbone And can you explain exactly how it's harmful to the gun? Worried about wearing out the slide catch? It's a terribly expensive part after all.
jmtyndall 8 months ago

Greg, I really have to credit you with being the man who got me off the fence about Glocks. I never really "disliked" the design and unlike so many, I always thought it was a nice-looking gun. My only issue with the gun came to light when you were talking about how many people want to be "free-thinkers" and search for a gun that's more unique to avoid being a "sheep." You were so right, and I've since found myself openly admiring the design and wanting one for myself. Thanks for the wisdom!

@hickok45 Indeed, you did in the video where u compared the Glock 19 with the Beretta 92FS
You're videos have helped me out alot with how to use my guns.
YronProductions 8 months ago
@hickok45 Thanks for making this great video. IMO, the .40S&W is a bit too powerful (recoil) in a subcompact package. I find the 9mm is the perfect chambering in a pistol that I can hold onto only with two fingers. I agree with everything you said about the G26. Very shootable! Love it. Got my G23 for the big 'ol .40 blast! Keep making great videos. We luv ya!
rogermcgee1 8 months ago
@hickok45 The main thing that has put me off about the Glocks are those finger grooves in the grip. My fingers are too big for those grooves. However, I see that you are using some kind of grip on your Glocks to mitigate that. What kind of grip is that? Also, what magazine holster are you using?
Wysiwyg101 8 months ago

Yo Hick I heard you shouldn't reload with polymer guns. Guy that told me is the instructor that does my armed gaurd. He blew his XD slide with reloads
VinnyS914 8 months ago
@VinnyS914 the chamber is not made of polymer. this makes no sense.
TheGuyWithAWeirdName 8 months ago
@TheGuyWithAWeirdName I'll tell him. I never reload anyway. (no room for the equipment.)
VinnyS914 8 months ago
@VinnyS914 Glock says not to use reloaded ammo in their guns, but it's just to cover their butts since they can't regulate reloaded ammo. Reloads are all I shoot in my Glocks. Guns blow up with reloads from accidental overcharges or double-charges. Just had a friend do that. It's not hard to do if you're distracted. Polymer guns are just as safe as steel guns with ANY ammo. If a cartridge was overcharged to the point that it would blow up a polymer gun, it would also blow up a steel gun.
