@locker199601 It is not a PRS, it is an Ibanez. You can see a shot of the headstock at 0:25. Google marty friedman ibanez and you will see images of it.
Anyone that thinks Dave wrote the solos for Marty or any of the lead guitarists is just barmy, you can clearly hear the difference between Dave's and any other guitarist Megadeth have had
Anyone can get to Chris's level of technique if they just learn and learn none stop but that doesn't make a solo sound exciting and make a good guitarist, I have nothing about Chris but if he did a solo album I can imagine it would be as boring as hell, no real feeling to his solos.
Speed IS NOT the most important thing in guitar. It might be ONE of the main things in thrash lead guitar, but it certainly isnt the most important thing in guitar.
People people lets not discriminate on whos the better guitarist. They both play guitar like titans of the insturment. Just enjoy the music. We are all intitled to our own opinions its our god given ( or whoever you do or dont worship) Marty isnt playing megadeth songs hardly these days. And maybe chris will create incredible work on megadeths next album
I think friedman shouldn't even be playing this because he didn't wrote it Mustaine wrote it just like the 99.99% of the lyrics and @cromaticas i agree with you i think broedrick is better and more technical superior
@BloodyPaperclip Yeah Mindless shredding do you play guitar at all those are good solos. And as for marty in megadeth he barely wrote any solo Dave wrote almost all the solos in Megadeth Period
@INKASANT Yeah I play guitar and playing scales really fast doesnt make you good. Nothing chris wrote was memorable AT ALL. and Dave only writes his own solos which is why you never see him playing this. Why would Marty or Chris write solos dave wrote? If dave wrote it then why doesnt he play it? are you fucking dumb? You can tell by the style that Dave didn't write it. Dave's solo's use a lot of pull offs and have a more aggressive sound while Marty have a more exotic sound.
@INKASANT And just to prove you wrong: Marty Friedman on Tornado Of Souls:
"When I finished writing the solo to this one, Mustaine came into the studio, listened to it down once, turned around and without saying a word, shook my hand. It was at that moment that I felt like I was truly the guitarist for this band." (Friedman, 2002)
@BloodyPaperclip i'm just telling you dave writes the solos but doesn't play them. And if you play guitar then ask yourself this if you play the solo on symphony of destruction which is better the slow or the fast speed. Speed is one of the main things in guitar as is techical skill and practice. and Marty's solos aren't fast shredding they are almost the same but chris has more Technical proficient watch the betcha can't play this and stop talking thrash about Chris
@INKASANT I'm not trash talking chris, I'm just saying Chris is better in terms of skill but Marty is more musical about it so in my opinion that makes him a better musician.
chris is in skill absolutely better than marty. but that doesn't make any sence. skill doesn't mean anything to music. If you can not creat the melody which affacts the audience deeply, you will never be a great guitarist.
that is why marty is called guitar master, but chris just a guitarist.
let's see what will the new album of megadeth bring us.
That's shit talk, please stop those senseless fights about these to, by the way in a interview Broderick said that Marty was one of his inspirations since the marry megadeth days. And Broderick said it was an honor to be in megadeth.
Anyone who talks shit about Broderick is just an uninformed fanboy of the Friedman days of Megadeth. Wait till november when their new album drops before saying Broderick can't write a better solo than this. Plus just look at all the shit he did in Jag Panzer. I saw Marty at Namm last year and the guy's unbelievable don't get me wrong, but he's gotten sloppy I think (like im one to talk lol) Anyway Broderick is an excellent fit for MegadetH. nuff said. Better than Marty? Well see.
@XxBlindedGuitaristxX The solos of Endgame are boring... And the new song they played live, is boring too... Chris is technically PERFECT but lacks of feeling IMO...
@XxBlindedGuitaristxX We'll see. Broderick is a down right fucking amazing guitarist don't get me wrong. But he didn't write any memoriable solo on Endgame. They were all generic sounding. So we'll see if he's better on TH1RT3EN
@JonoAllmanMD ahhhh ok then well dont get me wrong i fucking LOVE marty friedman but he is a money robbin idiot. wish he would swallow his greed and get back into megadeth =/ just aint the same with out him tbh =/
@JonoAllmanMD i wasnt disrespecting man. i fuckin LOVE paul gilbert am just saying that tornado of souls aint the same with out dave doing rythem. Thats all am saying man and no i couldnt do better i dont think any of us can do better
ive noticed altho paul gilbert he is a god on guitar jsut aint the same with out dave there =[ wish marty wasnt a money robbin prick and joined megadeth again
I think Marty Friedman just gave up on being badass on what he did, I dont think he is what he was in Megadeth anymore, he has the one of the saddest views of his music ive ever seen an artist have. Megadeth made him a bad musician? Please.
Jeez...anyone bitching about how good Chris Broderick is...go listen to some Cacophony. Marty was tearing ass like that when he was 16. He dumbed his stuff down for Megadeth just to fit the playing style. Seriously.
@ViniciusMPepino ah, good call. My point was just that Friedman was just as technical in my opinion as Broderick a long time ago. But still, good call.
@Trahira517 lol Broderick is way past Friedman in overall skill. Notice I said overall. Marty is better in some regards, but he can never hope to reach the same technical level that Broderick has reached in a much shorter time than Marty.
Not looking for an argument, just saying facts. Dave even said Broderick was by far the most skilled guitarist he has ever witnessed, which is why Broderick is in Megadeth. Cause dave always gets what he wants lol
@cromaticas lol..I'm catching so much hell for that comment. Look, what I meant really is just that Friedman (in my opinion) made way more memorable solos and songs in general than did Chris. I never said Chris was bad, obviously he's a very talented guitarist. But I've been listening to technical guitar for longer than I can remember at this point and Broderick just seems to be kind of a cookie-cutter type deal (he plays pretty predictable stuff), whereas Friedman played very uniquely.
@cromaticas And, not to nit-pick, but it's easier to play alot of Broderick's stuff than it is to play most stuff from Cacophony (whether it's a piece from Jason or Marty). Broderick is really good...but I think he's a bit overrated, and that's all. Even I'll admit though, that Friedman isn't fast like he used to be and he's not as fast as Broderick anymore, but Friedman went in a really weird direction after Megadeth. A very...Japanese direction.
@Trahira517 i wasnt just talking about speed, but technique in general.have you seen his two hand tapping?he has pretty technical solos in nevermore..i personally like martys solos in megadeth more, but broderick is more technical definetly
@cromaticas so what, he could do some tapping with his dick for what it's worth, who gives a fuck, he doesn't have the mojo, none of his solos are memorable
@cromaticas you said "marty friedman better than broderick?hes amazing, but hes not even close to broderick" so dont come with you " personal taste" thing, you asserted that Broderick was better than Friedman, you didn't say " I prefer Broderick over Friedman"
@cromaticas where's the " in my opinion" in " broderick is better than friedman", you said it like it was a fact, dont complain when people tell you the other way around... you're saying Broderick is better, I say you're wrong Friedman is better, and you complain about it... you give your opinion, I give mine, end of the day, maybe you dont stand when people disagree with you, but hey got to grow up someday
@mouloudo where did i say it was a fact?i said broderick is more technical.if you disagree with that either you cant play guitar or you just dont know about music.wether you like friedman more or not is personal taste.your arguments make more sence,i even like friedman more.
Broderick plays the write notes sure, but lacks soo much needed soul that Marty puts in the solo's. My God if you can't hear that, then you're missing half of the solo it self.
I wanna say to those guys who say Broderick sucks ass, why not just listening to music and having fun? Solo is soulful itself, and it is just needed to play smoothly to make a listener die, and Broderick does it excellently. Fuck the fact that Marty wrote this solo - he has NEVER played it without any mistakes. Maybe he's a better composer, but it doesn't make him a better guitarist. So shut the fuck up about Broderick and try playing like him. Or composing like Marty.
@klogg4 Technique of playing a solo perfectly isn't even half of being a guitarist man, if you're not into it and expressing yourself then there's no point in playing. That's why I love people like Marty and Paul, technically brilliant but you know they're having a blast whenever they hold a guitar. And the stuff they write is the real deal, fucking awesome. Broderick can hit the right notes etc, but he just doesn't give off the vibes man, thats what he's missing imo anyway
@klogg4 Some musician don´t play to much they just compose and pay an interpreter to play their music. Some of them don´t even play just sing. Some musicians don´t compose but play very good. Withought good composition music would be dead. Marty Friedman is good at guitar and playing good original guitar solos.
@klogg4 you're talking like he cant play the fucking solo. He composed the solo, played it perfect on the record AND on Tour, you got to understand that on this video, Marty isn't with megadeth anymore since numerous years, and that he probably doesn't practice this solo every day like Broderick ( I've read mustaine saying that Broderick is practicing 1 or 2 hours before every show, when Dave doesn't even warm up) he didn't quit megadeth to play tornados of soul's solo every day, he moved on..
marty's passion and energy + brodericks skill would be a godly combination. But of course if that ever happend the planet would simply tear itself in two, or the universe would just start again because no one is allowed to be that good.
That kid is a 14 year old guitar virtuoso, let’s keep talent alive by making this go viral. That is how many of these days so called artists became well known, let’s make this kid famous.
Paul Gilbert just played with a god damned drill. I think your tone would be a little out of whack too. For fucks sake, all Youtube comments are, are a bunch of bitchy, whiny, critical assholes. Just enjoy the fucking videos, and if you dont like it DONT WATCH IT!
@mrchi47 I know, I just wanted to tell to people that say Broderick plays this solo absolutely emotionless and Marty has the soul and some kind of that shit - Marty played it much better when he was in Megadeth, but he plays his own solo in this video without any emotions at all. I can tell more - he plays it a bit sloppy! And Broderick nails it absolutely flawless wherever he plays it...
@klogg4 oh sorry, i misinterpreted what you said and yes i agree, if it was in a faster timing i think this video would sound a lot better and marty would put much more soul into playing it.
@alexguitar12345 Doesn't mean it's a competition. Music isn't competition, there are no points scored. This video also doesn't say Vs so that argument is invalid. GUitar duels aren't actually duels they are more like duets =)
I can't get over Marty's picking hand position. I think if I tried to play an entire show with my wrist bent like that, my hand would fall off. He definitely pulls it off and his use of upstrokes is great but goddamn I don't know how he does that.
@Clean97gti I just noticed that too.. I've noticed when Dimebag used to play he had a strange picking hand position too but both absolutely blow me away. I guess there is no 'right' way to hold a plectrum.
@BLACKS4BBB Cause he said that he didn't really like to play metal anymore. He was tired of playing metal because metal "has to be gun metal gray" and he loved pop, so he loved to paint with other colors like, "purple and yellow". It's all in the documentary. lol.
I was reading an interview with Marty that was dated to right around when Loudspeaker just came out and Marty mentioned that when he left he felt Megadeth was very much in between aggressive and pop-ish. He basically said that he told the rest of the band "Hey if we're gonna do pop let's REALLY do pop. OR if we're gonna be aggressive let's make something REALLY friggin aggressive." According to him that didn't go well with the band and he left.
wtf motherfuckers 8 people of 10 that they play music play guitar .. this statistic is awful why you dont like bass or drums i cant understand wtf and then you want to be in bands if all plays guitar then with which way the bands will be formed with 4 guitars ?? if i am wrong tell me

Broderick can hit the right notes etc, but he just doesn't give off the vibes man, thats what he's missing imo anyway
flobtob 8 months ago
@klogg4 The importante thing is to compose it.
deapwavelio 8 months ago
@deapwavelio you're wrong absolutely. Both composing and playing are important for a good guitarist
klogg4 8 months ago
@klogg4 For a good guitarrist playing is important or he won´t get paid, for a good musician composing is the key.
deapwavelio 8 months ago
@deapwavelio composing is the key for a composer. For a good musician both good playing and good composing are important
klogg4 8 months ago
@klogg4 Some musician don´t play to much they just compose and pay an interpreter to play their music. Some of them don´t even play just sing. Some musicians don´t compose but play very good. Withought good composition music would be dead. Marty Friedman is good at guitar and playing good original guitar solos.
deapwavelio 8 months ago
@klogg4 you're talking like he cant play the fucking solo. He composed the solo, played it perfect on the record AND on Tour, you got to understand that on this video, Marty isn't with megadeth anymore since numerous years, and that he probably doesn't practice this solo every day like Broderick ( I've read mustaine saying that Broderick is practicing 1 or 2 hours before every show, when Dave doesn't even warm up) he didn't quit megadeth to play tornados of soul's solo every day, he moved on..

I didn't fuckin care if Friedman played the solo sloppy on this video.
I was just too happy to see and hear him play the Tornado of Souls solo again. How I wish he could join Megadeth for one concert!

marty's passion and energy + brodericks skill would be a godly combination. But of course if that ever happend the planet would simply tear itself in two, or the universe would just start again because no one is allowed to be that good.

0:25 he failed. Sorry, but Chris Broderick has more sense when he plays solo than Marty Friedman here
klogg4 11 months ago
@klogg4 marty wrote the solo....
mrchi47 11 months ago
@mrchi47 I know, I just wanted to tell to people that say Broderick plays this solo absolutely emotionless and Marty has the soul and some kind of that shit - Marty played it much better when he was in Megadeth, but he plays his own solo in this video without any emotions at all. I can tell more - he plays it a bit sloppy! And Broderick nails it absolutely flawless wherever he plays it...
klogg4 11 months ago
@klogg4 oh sorry, i misinterpreted what you said and yes i agree, if it was in a faster timing i think this video would sound a lot better and marty would put much more soul into playing it.
mrchi47 11 months ago
Great song, I just love the solo.

DANGILBERT03 11 months ago
@DANGILBERT03 well all the videos about this were called 'marty friedman vs paul gilbert' hmm.
alexguitar12345 11 months ago
@alexguitar12345 Doesn't mean it's a competition. Music isn't competition, there are no points scored. This video also doesn't say Vs so that argument is invalid. GUitar duels aren't actually duels they are more like duets =)
xfghkhjfsejid 11 months ago
@xfghkhjfsejid yeh but this video is specifically a part of the guitar battle and i know music not a competition but i was just saying..
alexguitar12345 11 months ago
I can't get over Marty's picking hand position. I think if I tried to play an entire show with my wrist bent like that, my hand would fall off. He definitely pulls it off and his use of upstrokes is great but goddamn I don't know how he does that.
Clean97gti 1 year ago
@Clean97gti I just noticed that too.. I've noticed when Dimebag used to play he had a strange picking hand position too but both absolutely blow me away. I guess there is no 'right' way to hold a plectrum.

xX5il3ntsiPHon 1 year ago
FUCK YOU MARTY. WHYD YOU LEAVE?!?!
BLACKS4BBB 1 year ago 3
@BLACKS4BBB Cause he said that he didn't really like to play metal anymore. He was tired of playing metal because metal "has to be gun metal gray" and he loved pop, so he loved to paint with other colors like, "purple and yellow". It's all in the documentary. lol.
andresoacuna 1 year ago
@andresoacuna well he says he dont want to play just metal....
sonnic1995 1 year ago
@andresoacuna
