I had an brand new Amphicar just like this in Honolulu, It was the most fun car or boat that I ever had in my life!!! Also about the same time, had an surplus USMC DUKW in Honolulu, Rented it out for filming the movie "HAWAII". Had some really fun toys to play with in Honolulu... Aloha, Elliott
My dad had one of these ....bought it used in 1966 I dont remb going out in it but I was told it was a blast ,it sat for years in ontario ....before he pased in 2008 I talked him into selling it had it shipped to Calgary... it is now being restored to all its org condition by Ian Vinor of Superior Auto Body in Calgary,Alberta!... think it will be ready for the water in about 4 years!... will be a great day
I saw my first Amphicar about 45 years ago, at Pier 76, in Westbrook, CT.
My friend has one & his brother has 2 of them.
They went for a ride, one night about 11pm, at Crystal Lake, in Ellington, CT, and someone say the car go in the water WITH the head lights & called the Fire Dept.
they range alot in price depending on how good the body is and what not. my dad owns one and its absolutely amazing, its always a rush driving into the river.
I saw a new version of a swimming car that cruises right a long.. gets up on a plane if i recall it was reasonably priced. also if i recal correctly it stated that people didn't buy the older ones so they couldn't stay afloat in business... pun intended hehe haha corny ok
Strange but true. I saw one drive into the water and swim off. And the Stewarts of Anchorage, RIP, drove one down the Yukon River. Search for stewart's photo amphicar. They had photos in their shop for years.
i know that they dont go much faster, but splash dives are more fun then dinky 2 miles per hour, gotta get it going up to like 25 mph for it to be a fun water entry
Its an awful car, and a terrible boat. But its still cool.

the brakes dont get ruined in water because they're designed to hold up. they dont work for about 15 mins when you get out of the lake though

Cool car mang :) And you mastered getting it back on land with no help!!!
I had one, put a V4 engine in it, and sunk it :P Nobody told me the bow acts like an airfoil.
