Well done fantastic fish, I may try breeding a truely matt black moor with a true red and see if I can get a true matt black Ryukin. will let you know how it goes. My bloodline stock goes back 15/16 years.

It doesn't look distressed. Sure, a bigger tank would be beneficial, but it won't stop that behaviour. Most goldfish are and should be CONSTANTLY looking for food, and therefore moving their gills and mouth more than many other species of fish.

I don't think he looks distressed, just Hungry. Ryukins are a fairly energetic breed.

it might have something to do with his tank size, if its too small you might be stunting his growth
