Hi! I was wondering...Now, since it has been over 2 years...Are your Betta and your Red-Tailed Shark still getting along in a 20 Gal. tank...Or have you had to remove any of them? How are your corys doing? I am all new to this...but I heard that SAND was much better, if you want your Corys to be happy...? Even just a SECTION of the bottom in sand and the Corys will gravitate right to it...?
@VegetarianFound If you put a female beta in there the male will instantly chase it down or try to mate with the female beta, so unless you are trying to breed never put a male and a female beta together. Beta seems to get along with alot of tropical fish (the non-agressive one). :D
@g2gpce Do not put 8 Bettas together, the snails and shrimp will be fine, the guppys will have problems, the white clouds will too, get 2 upside down cats, do NOT put Goldfish with Tropical fish, the Mollie will be okay, do NOT put Cichlids of ANYTYPE in a tank with small fish or in a 20 g tank, the platys and swordtails will be k, get 2 ADF's, and not alot of Mickey Mouse Platys. I reccomend a 30 gallon for all of those together. 20 is way too small.
does your shark bother the other fish at all? i have a 55 gallon tank and ive got an albino red fin shark in with a betta, neon tetras, a pleco, kuhli loaches, guppies, black neons and serpae tetras. ive heard so many different things about these fish. one person said they had theirs in with neons for all its life and it never attacked them.
Add silver hacthfish! There not to much trouble to take care of and they are a type of flying fish, there nice but only stay at the top of your tank so there good to fill up space at the top. I have one and love him!
Seriously my cycling on take a week, because i went to one of the pet store and ask them for their sponges. I went home and put that in my tank. Since all the beneficial bacterial had already build up in that sponge, u dont need to wait as long.
man, your fish tank is awesome. this is a little random, but how do you get rid of the annoying algae on the plants?? its devastating my java ferns... any suggestions???
@Callampingpong I think they have some thing call Algaefix at Petsmart, so u can go in there and check it out. Plus if yur light is on 24/7 that can increase the algae production too. Also direct sunlight is another reason.
they do unless they have a divider that seperates the tank into 2 or more sections where they can't get at each other so yes the can be together in the same tank but they can't swim together. =]
This may sound strange but i have the exact same 20 gallon tank, with the same stump structure in the middle and i even have two of the pink/green plants. The only differences is the rocks and the fish.
Believe it or not, i found mine at Petco. They always have Halfmoon, but you have to look for the best one though, because some halfmoon that they carry are bad.
Yes you can, but i think you should feed it frozen or dried bloodworm and brineshrimp. Cause these foods will bring out the color of the fish. It will makes your fish color darker and brighter :)
Wow. Hes gorgeous. I bought a baby half moon betta from Petco. I put him into a community tank with 5 neon tetras. He was fine with them. I haven't had that great with Petco within my years. I don't know why he died because of Petco or something else.?
Your tank is if anything overstocked. You need to keep your tank as it is. It is pretty, but you need to take responsibility for the fish. Do not buy any more!
nice tank, and awesome betta, but you should be careful wut other fish you put into the tank, redtail sharks, guppies and most tetras do and will nip his fins. Contrary to popular belief, bettas are NOT aggresive towards other fish, only towards other male bettas, so it's perfectly ok to mix them in a comunity tank as long as there arent any fin nippers living with your betta.
Hey, mywesties5 your tank set up is really simple and nice. I think it would be good for u to put your beta in there. Put put an eye on your guppy, cause those guy seem to go for the beta fin from time to time. One more thing when u feed your fish try to isolate the beta if you can , cause the beta will eat non-stop as long there is food.
So try to feed him separtely. I made a mistake by feeding my fish all at one and later when i come back and look at my beta. He looks like he has a tumor in his stomach LOL :)
He does actually, at first i was afraid to put him in the tank. But i also feel bad leaving him the small vase, to i just put him in the tank apprently he gets along really well with other fish. Just give him alot of place to hide and he would be fine.
I am glad to see more people trying a Betta in there community tanks & getting them out of the bowels. One Betta in a community tank is so nice to watch, alot of fun! Good Day
But the red tailed shark will ruin your tank when it is bigger. There is a good reason why it is listed on the black list for fish that are not suited for a normal Aquarium. It will become too big for your tank and agressive!
i have the albino bottomfeeder fish i called him/Her Al

u could add more swordtails or a couple of platies or a snail
jack26707 7 months ago
@VegetarianFound It's actually a myth that no fish can live with a Betta, because most fish are compatible. Just don't do more than one betta. :)

A few glowlight-tetras would be a perfect addition to your amazing tropical fish tank :) !!!!

Ha,
I have the same tank and thermometer, the same driftwood decoration and a red betta that looks similar.
Got mine on Christmas and I'm also planning on adding 3 or 4 cory cats, java ferns and probably another 1 or 2 fish when the tank has cycled.
Did you do a fishless cycle or not? How long did it take for the tank to cycle?
I'm going on my third week and so far haven't seen a huge step in the process.
