I've been there! It a great place to watch trains, but you can definitely expect some funny glances from the local cops. I've stopped in Hardeeville three times, each stop was no more than 45 minutes, and each time a cop stopped by to ask what the hell I was doing. That's 3 for 3, folks!
Any idea how fast the train was going? I'm thinking about 65 mph, maybe a little faster.

Track speed in that section of track is 80mph for passenger trains.

Is train #80 the Silver Palm?
garginshmunkle 4 years ago
This is train #90, northbound Palmetto. The Silver Palm no longer exists.
BobWeaver112 4 years ago
Really? How long ago did it go away?
garginshmunkle 4 years ago
Late 2004. Palmetto now originates in Savannah and operates between there and New York. Southbound terminates in Savannah.

@BobWeaver112 Technically, the Palmetto is the Silver Palm. The routes a bit shorter, but everything else is basically the same.

it may be only a car top to you, but to me it looked like a still and watery reflection... a great effect to the image in all events!
